Terry Funk sends in a promo challenging Lawler to an Empty Arena match although they had the match on 4/6/81 and this is fucking awesome. Slam dunk extra. (4/11/81)

 

Dutch Mantell comes out and cuts a promo explaining his babyface turn telling of his plight in Vietnam and his patriotism. This was great. (4/11/81)

 

Next we get a highlight video of a jacked up Kevin Sullivan winning Mr. Knoxville bodybuilding contest. Lots of dudes in speedos here. (4/18/81)

 

Dutch comes out for another promo declaring war on Tojo Yamamoto. (4/18/81)

 

Then we get highlights of Kevin Sullivan turning on Jerry Lawler during their match against Ali Bey & El Toro along with Jimmy Hart at MSC on 4/13/81.

 

Next we get the TV version of the Empty Arena Match from MSC on 4/6/81.

 

Roy Rogers & Tiny Tom vs. Jimmy Hart & Billy the Kid (4/18/81)

 

This is hilarious as Hart beats up Tom before Lawler runs out who brawls with Sullivan.

 

CWA TV Title: “Dirty” Dutch Mantell © vs. Kevin Sullivan (5/16/81)

 

Sullivan embarrassed Dutch on the mat early so Dutch started firing punches sending Sullivan to the floor to regroup. This would turn into a styles clash as Sullivan wanted to keep it on the mat while Dutch tried to roughhouse it but Sullivan flipped the script and threw Dutch to the floor where he would post him then rammed him into the table. Sullivan then starts biting and punching as he kept the pressure on Dutch. Dutch would try to fight back but Sullivan unloaded with some great right hands. Dutch would come back hitting an atomic drop but missed a diving elbow with Sullivan headbutting him into the ropes. Dutch would get a sunset flip though for a nearfall and another one after a missed bodyslam by Sullivan. Sullivan would then hit a beautiful monkey flip before it would turn into a slugfest and Dutch using his straps on his tights to choke Sullivan. Sullivan was trying his best to leave the ring but would throw Dutch into Jimmy Hart on the apron and hit an O’Connor Roll for the win. This was a really fun TV match and a nomination.

 

The Nightmares are in the ring squashing jobbers until Terry Funk showed up wanting Jerry Lawler demanding he show up but he is in Florida so he just starts kicking everybody’s ass. Funk then busts himself open with a steel chair and this is a definite extra. (5/16/81)

 

Next we get highlights of Lawler vs. Dory Jr. from MSC on 5/11/81. This looked damn good.

 

Tojo Yamamoto comes out and introduces his new charge in “Golden Boy” Chick Donovan who cuts an odd promo. (5/16/81)

 

Then we get the “Destroyer” aka Wayne Ferris promo. (5/23/81)

 

Next is highlights of the Louisville Street Fight.

 

Jimmy Hart comes out and claims that Nightmare #1 (Danny Davis) has cramps so Wayne Ferris will take his spot in a match with Roy Rogers so the other faces come out sending him out of the ring.

 

Steve Keirn makes his Memphis debut with a promo (6/6/81)

Spotlight match for Keirn as he looks great and takes care of business against the First Family until the numbers game catches up to him before Dundee & Dream Machine helps out. Sullivan then comes out and challenges Keirn to a match for the TV Title leading to….

 

CWA TV Title: Kevin Sullivan © vs. Steve Keirn (6/6/81)

 

Their feud from Georgia resumes here and this was a damn good match with both men looking great trading the advantage. Keirn & Sullivan both throw good punches and they work this like you could tell they really hate each other nd the crowd was really into this especially considering this is Keirn’s first TV taping. The match would go to a draw that turns into a big pull-apart but this was still a lot of fun and I’m throwing it on the block for consideration.

Terry Funk promo and this was solid gold, and an extra for sure.

 

Mantell does a cool promo, that sounds like Sgt. Slaughter would do. Awesome promo.

I'm liking this so far. I was digging the hooking on the mat. Mantell's punches were gold. I loved Mantell's knee drop. Sullivan was a vicious little bastard with his punches and kicks. It was neat so see Dutch start heeling it up and it sorta costs Mantell the match. I thought this solid stuff and I'll give it a mild endorsement. Mantell was great at leading this.

 

Another amazing Funk segment that is an extra.

 

Highlights of Lawler vs. Dory Jr this was great as well.

This was solid stuff.

 

Keirn vs. Sullivan

 

I was digging how Keirn was paintbrushing the back of Sullivan's head. Keirn is cranking that headlock on Sullivan. I liked how Dutch gave this match a backstory while commentaring. Sullivan delivers a brutal belly to back suplex. The crowd was super hot for Keirn. Their was a fun little postmatch. I liked this but not enough for a nomination.
