Posted May 26, 200817 yr comment_5431631 Spolier v. Jerry Oski I wonder why Oski never went anywhere, he had a nice dropkick. Spoiler is always fun too, not a disc match or anything Randy Savage v. Steve Constance Basically a squash, but Savage is always fun to watch in Memphis Kareem Muhammed v. Davey Haskins Squash Big Lou Winston v. Jerry Lawler Lou comes out hard, but gets Lawler fired up and he beats him quick They show the Lawler and Brody tag break up and brawl, which we might want to throw on before the Lawler v. Brody match, also a Brody interview, and Lawler calls Mohammed a monkey Jerry Jarrett cuts a promo about why he want's to get back in wrestling, they show highlights of Jarrett/Tojo v. PYT's where Jarett gets strapped by the PYT's and Newman The crowning of Tim Ashley v. Mr. Wrestling What is the reason behind Gilbert working as Mr. Wrestling? He is a really fun fake Mr. Wrestling, I especially loved the head and neck take overs, this was worked kind of like a poor mans Fujiwara match with the old guy stretching the youngster, and the young guy showing some nice counters, first fall ends with Ashley taking off Gilberts mask and rolling him up. Gibert is pissed and beats on him in the second fall but time runs out. Fun match but not a nomination Arena 5/12 Kareem Muhammed v. Davey Haskins Ass whipping including Muhammed kind of awkwardly throwing Haskins on the table Dr. D David Schultz v. Steve Constance Squash, nice second rope elbow from Schultz Iron Mike Sharpe v. Tim Ashley This was pretty good for a Sharpe match, Ashley bumped good, and Sharpe even went up for a monkey flip, Ashley wins a back and forth match with a powerslam, this wasn't a disc match but it didn't miss by much Joe LeDuc v. Austin Idol This was JIP about 2 minutes in, lots of shtick but it ends quick with LeDuc getting DQed, dissapointing Jerry Oski v. Lanny Poffo I was enjoying Poffo's trippy counters, and I like Oski despite his blandness, still the finish of Poffo getting DQ'ed for a moonsault is pretty ass, I am going to say no Moondog Rex v. Tommy Rich Does anyone have the Lou Thez booked Kuwait promotion he talks about here? I liked this, Rich is a great babyface, and I loved the double miss and punch exchanges. Thez press in front of Thez is a cool finish. I am going yes on this
July 28, 200817 yr comment_5433310 Jerry Oske vs. The Spoiler (5/11/85) Oske gets the win. Then we get clips of Oske beating Savage for the title after a semi-coherant promo by Oske. “Macho Man” Randy Savage vs. Steve Constance (5/11/85) Constance gives Savage a run for his money to start but Savage eventually destroys him. Savage is nuts here. Mr. Kareem Muhammad vs. David Haskins (5/11/85) Squash. Jerry “The King” Lawler vs. Big Lou Winston (5/11/85) Squash. Then we get clips of Brody turning on Lawler at MSC on 5/6/85 followed up by a Brody promo in the locker room. Next is Lawler cutting a promo about bringing in Dundee to face Brody & Kareem and it’s extra material. Then we get the Jarrett/Tojo video with highlights of the PYT match from Jackson. Fabs send in a taped promo from the backwoods saying that they are winners. Then we get the induction ceremony for Billy Travis into the PYT’s and this is great. Definite extra. (5/11/85) 2 out of 3 falls: Tim Ashley vs. Mr. Wrestling (Tommy Gilbert) (5/11/85) The story here is that Ashley unmasks Wrestling as Gilbert to no one’s surprise in the 1st fall. The 2nd fall ends in a draw. Mr. Kareem Muhammad vs. David Haskins (4/29/85) Squash. “Dr. D” David Shultz vs. Steve Constance (4/29/85) Another squash. Tim Ashley vs. Iron Mike Sharpe (4/29/85) Ashley gets the big win here and was getting a push. Next is an Idol/LeDuc match from 1984 that wasn’t much of anything but schtick. Jerry Oske vs. Lanny Poffo (4/22/85) Michael St. John & Les Thatcher are on commentary here. This is from the failed ESPN taping which brought together CWA, ICW, & Ann Gunkel’s group for a big show at MSC. I can only imagine if they had done this right how different CWA would’ve been with an ESPN deal. Regarding the match, the work was fine here but like Phil I hated the finish and there were better matches with these two. Tommy “Wildfire” Rich vs. Moondog Rex (4/22/85) Lance is calling the match with Lou Thesz, Freddie Miller, & Ann Gunkel. Rex is pretty cleaned up for a Moondog gimmick here and he was getting ready to go to Watts to be The Nightmare. This was a good match with Rich looking very sharp here and Rex being a solid opponent. Rich using the Thesz Press with Lou there to announce it was a great touch. I think this goes forward.
