Posted May 29, 200817 yr comment_5431778 II & Zbyszko have a staredown with II asking Larry to come in the ring but he declines. (6/18/83) Sawyer then cuts an incensed promo on Murdoch. Handicap Elimination: Killer Brooks vs. Rick Rood & Zane Smith (6/18/83) Brooks puts away Smith easily but Rood is different as Brooks needs help from Zbyszko to get the advantage but II would come out to even the odds as the time limit runs out. Precious Paul comes out with Arn Anderson and he plans to change Arn’s name to Arn Ellering. National TV Title: Iron Sheik © vs. Randy Barber (6/18/83) During the match Ole comes out trying to convince Arn to not change his name. Sheik would win this easily. Ole then challenges Ellering to a match in the ring and they have a brawl but the Roadies would attack Ole going after his injured ribs. Stan Hansen & Tommy Rich would make the save. Hansen & Rich would then cut a promo about the situation. Murdoch would then come out cutting a promo on his LLT match with Buzz at the Omni the next night. “Superstar” Bill Dundee vs. Pat Rose (6/11/83) This is from the first taping of GCW Superstars from Chattanooga with the Jarrett crew and lots of empty chairs. The Angel (Frank Morrell) & Jerry Novak vs. Stray Cat (Ken Wayne) & Ken Woodby (6/11/83) Jim Cornette is managing the heels. Stray Cat looks good here. Next is clips of a Dundee/Dutch match from MSC. Freddie Miller then interviews Dundee & the Cornette Dynasty at TBS Studios. This is great stuff. Precious Paul then cuts a promo on Ole. National TV Title: Iron Sheik © vs. Bob Roop (6/25/83) This is a rare heel vs. heel match and Mr. Wrestling (Tim Woods) is on commentary with Solie. This wasn’t fancy but it was a very good basic wrestling match featuring accomplished amateur wrestlers mixing up mat wrestling and strikes. Sheik even breaks out a somersault senton here but misses it. They would trade nearfalls before the time would expire. Nick Patrick would call the match a draw and this was fun stuff. A borderline nomination for me but I wouldn’t mind seeing it on the block. Then we get clips of the Zbyszko/II match from the Omni on 6/19/83. Rood would count Zbyszko out after a ref bump and gave the belt to II who kept it. Zbyszko then brings out his special referee Killer Brooks. Larry Zbyszko vs. Pistol Pez Whatley (6/25/83) Brooks is refereeing here and this brings out II who sits in Pez’s corner. Zbyszko dictates the pace thus keeping it slow with some stalling and mat wrestling. Pez would get his shots in and looked good with dropkicks but this would also end in a draw with Brooks giving the match to Zbyszko. II & Pez are pissed but it was Brooks’ call and II cuts an angry promo afterwards. Tommy Rich gets a watch for being the most influential wrestler of 1982, This was 6 months too late I think. Mr. Wrestling II vs. Killer Brooks (6/25/83) II is wearing the National title and Mr. Wrestling comes out telling Scrappy McGowan that he wants to be the referee for this match. Zbyszko comes out whining but Pez is countering him on the floor then Rood shows up to put him in the minority. II made this match as good as it could be because as Brooks wasn’t good at all. Zbyszko would pass Brooks something after II hit him with the Millon Dollar Kneelift but Mr. Wrestling caught Brooks before he could use it. As this is going on, II catches Brooks again with the Kneelift and gets the win. Next is clips of Garvin/Sheik from the Omni on 6/19/83 with Garvin getting the win but not the National TV Title as the time had expired by 1 minute. Garvin then breaks the trophy after being announced as not winning it. Ronnie Garvin vs. “Mad Dog” Buzz Sawyer (6/25/83) Sawyer immediately starts beating on Garvin but Garvin would make a comeback leading to Buzz leaving the ring and walking away for a countout. This was a weird finish. Arn Anderson, Joe Lightfoot, & Brett Wayne vs. The Road Warriors & Paul Ellering (6/25/83) As you can tell Arn decided to with Ole and Ellering is in his suit not dressing out for wrestling. TV time would run out before a finish but the Sunday show would show the end of the match with Ole helping Arn clean house on the heels. Then we get another Dundee interview on the redneck fans. The Angel (Frank Morrell) & Jerry Novak vs. Rick Connors & Ken Hall (6/18/83) This is from GCW Superstars and there are more people at this taping and in a bigger studio. Then we get a Ricky Steamboat/Jay Youngblood vs. Masa Fuchi/Ricky Harris (Black Bart) match from World Wide. The Fantastic Ones (Bobby Fulton & Terry Taylor) vs. Larry Hare & Deke Rivers (6/18/83) Lightning didn’t strike twice for Jarrett on this gimmick. Ole comes out cutting a promo about bringing in reinforcements in Barry Darsow to go with Arn Anderson to face Ellering & Roadies. (7/2/83) II’s mask vs. $25,000: Pistol Pez Whatley & Mr. Wrestling II vs. Tully Blanchard & Larry Zbyszko (7/2/83) This match was on a weird round system and the 1st round would end in a time limit draw as both teams couldn’t get the advantage for enough time. Round 2 would end up with the faces getting DQed for Tully getting thrown over the top rope thus leaving II alone against the heels but the round would end in a draw. Round 3 would start with II still in a handicap situation and getting his ass kicked although he would fight hard. II would get double teamed until Scrappy McGowan DQed Tully for not leaving the ring thus making it one-on-one. Zbyszko would get a pinfall on II but was holding the ropes so Mr. Wrestling ran in and told McGowan what happened which led to Zbyszko getting cradled for the win. This was quite the interesting match and it was pretty good. I’m throwing it on the block. Rich & Sawyer get into a heated verbal confrontation at the desk. Wild Bill Irwin vs. Terry Ellis (7/2/83) Irwin wins this while still wearing his coat. Irwin then demands that Tommy Rich come out which he does. “Wildfire” Tommy Rich vs. Wild Bill Irwin (7/2/83) This was a back and forth battle until Buzz would run in for the DQ. The heels would beat on Rich until Scott Casey made the save.
