Chigusa Nagayo/Lionness Asuka vs Akira Hokuto/Suzuka Minami: My current working number one. I haven't seen this match in probably ten years and I forgot that by 1989, Lionness Asuka is the best in the world. She is just awesome in this, beating the hell out of a very game Minami and a pre-Dangerous Queen Hokuto while giving enough to nurture the next generation's superstar. I love the way you can see the distance between Chigusa and Lionness in their development. Chigusa is the one being completely engulfed in streamers from the schoolgirls while Lionness is so head and shoulders above anyone else at this point. When she goes on offense, it is hell on earth. Chigusa does cool things too in this though- especially the weighting of the German Suplex by Hokuta after the flash pin on the first move of the first fall. Hokuto and Suzuka use speed and quickness and sleepers to slow down the veterans but really they are there to earn the respect of the schoolgirls by just getting the living hell stomped out of them by Lionness. Down sides are Chigusa's not ready For The 90s offense and also Suzuka fuckin KILLING Chigusa with a botched toprope Senton that brings all of Suzuka's weight down on Chigusa's face- right at the beginning of the finishing sequence, making it kinda patchwork to the end. But other than that- Jillion stars.
