Not a ton of Memphis on here and some poor VQ

Nothing I think needs to go on.

This is during the GCW/Memphis cooperation point and Solie is on commentary with Russell and the two really haven’t established a good rhythmn with each other, it kind of feels like they’re accidentally stepping on each others stuff. Both guys are really good at dramatic understatement but Solie’s is more sports broadcaster-ish while Russell is more folksy weatherman. At one point Solie is trying to get the Batttens over as being four sport college athletes while Russell is trying to get them over as just being “swell guys”

Memphis can sometimes be Russo-ish in that instead of long term angles you have the whole angle rushed out on one episode broadcasted Saturday to set up the houseshow on Monday. Big angle set up like this here is Eddie Gilbert v Johnny Wilhoyt for a secondary title. It’s kind of done really awesome with Gilbert offering Wilhoyt back from injury a title shot, gilbert pretending that he’s doing it out of goodness of his heart since he knew how difficult it was to come back from injury and then getting all heelish and mocking Willhoyt. They run a really fun a main event expiration of time match with Lou Winston, Gilbert and Invader v Wilhoyt and Batten Twins. Gilbert claims he could beat the faces 3 on one and so willing to team with jobbers. Heels loose first fall when gets counted out as he walks away realizing his team is loosing,, he then blames his partners gets challenged to a singles match, claims he wants a singles match but Eddie Marlin wouldn’t allow one, Eddie Marlin comes out and says Ok by him, Gilbert tries to back down and brawl. Whole thing is done really well and the Gilbert,Winston,Invader v Wihoyt and Batten Twins match is entertaining enough that I think I should give the Wilhoyt,Batten v DWBs match another chance.

Other angle is an amusing comedy thing about Plowboy Frazier becoming a Playboy Frazier where he talks about all the women who give him their panties and Lalwer comes out with a box that was delivered to the studio for Plowboy, inside is a pair of women’s underwear twice the size of Plowboy.

On DVD there is also insane Boogie Woogie Man on episode of Lawler’s show where he talks about partying with Bruce Springsteen and how excited he is to be going to Japan for the tag league. If we had this in better VQ it might be an extra.

During the GCW show on the disk, Russel does the bumpers promoting next show and Troy Graham does a variation on the the promo quoted in the kayfabe memories quotable Memphis article.

A graveyard disposition and a tombstone mind, two big white mother’s sons that don’t mind dying. Constance and Ashley, we’re gonna go through you like a dose of salt through a widow woman, baby, you understand what I’m saying? We’re gonna drop you like yesterday’s garbage, baby because we go on through the sleet and snow and driving rain to the forty below in Bangor, Maine (Russell looks at the camera and rolls his eyes) to a hundred and ten in the Texas sun, there ain’t no road that the Interns ain’t run, you understand what I’m saying? I’m wired to the max, baby. I’m ready for Monday night. Constance and Ashley, we’re gonna drop you, baby, like yesterday’s garbage.”

It’s better than that one as he’s calling out Lawler and Valiant instead of Constance and Ashley. Just a fantastic promo that I might argue deserves being an extra if we had it in better VQ.

DVD also has a ridiculous Brutus Beefcake does a striptease to Scandal’s “Warrior”. I have no idea how that didn’t make an extra on the WWF set.

DVD also has a completely unwatchable St Louis fed with a Jerry Oates promo calling out Dick Murdoch and a Chavo and Tiger Conway v Savage and some guy studio match.
