Posted June 11, 200817 yr comment_5432152 Mr. R vs. The Spoiler (2/25/84) Rich is back as Mr. R and he is wrestling in his street clothes due to his gear getting lost. This is just a brawl with both men going for their masks until the Roadies try to ambush him and Mr. R ducks out escaping. Precious Paul comes out showing highlights of his own with his guys and foreshadows some saying that Ole Anderson will hear from Brett Sawyer later and that his last highlight will come later in the show. (3/3/84) Next we get a taped promo from Nikolai Volkoff. Nikolai Volkoff vs. Terry Ellis (2/25/84) Squash. Then we get clips of Flair vs. Brad Armstrong from the Omni on 2/26/84. Jay Youngblood comes out saying that Wahoo McDaniel isn’t at TV because he got a mysterious message saying that his match was cancelled and he needs a partner. The Spoiler vs. Roger Bond (3/3/84) Squash. Pistol Pez Whatley & Jay Youngblood vs. The Road Warriors (Animal & Hawk) (3/3/84) This was a back and forth match to start until Ellering gives a sign to the camera and Freddie Miller would come out to give Ole a message saying that Brett Sawyer was on the phone. The Roadies chunk Whatley to the floor as Ellering comes in the ring and they paint Youngblood with white paint. Bundy would come in the ring to clean house as Youngblood stands there angry about his heritage being desecrated. Ole comes out and says that no one was on the phone and he puts it all together. Ole & Solie were great on the selljob here. This whole angle is a definite extra and a intricate one for the times. Les Thornton vs. Mike Starbuck (3/3/84) Squash. Ted DiBiase vs. Mark Hill (3/3/84) Squash. Jake the Snake comes out flipping a quarter saying that they work really well in phone booths. I love it. Next we get a Chris Markoff squash from the AWA. God he sucks. Solie announces that Precious Paul was fined $3,500 for his actions from the previous week and they show the whole angle from last week with from the beginning foreshadowing to the end. #1 Contender Tournament for the NWA World Heavyweight Title – Quarterfinals: “Hands of Stone” Ronnie Garvin vs. Larry Zbyszko (3/10/84) Zbyszko makes his return to TBS after 6 months and he stalls his ass off for the early part of the match. Garvin would get the advantage though but not for long as Zbyszko starts pounding on him. Garvin would get a cut over his eye and started firing shots on Zbyszko before he would go to the floor to stall some more. Zbyszko comes back in and starts working on the eye weakening Garvin but Ronnie would fight back and would beat on Zbyszko until the bell rang for the time limit draw. Both men are eliminated. This was an okay match. Volkoff sends in another taped promo on Bundy promising to send the money that he wins for slamming Bundy to Russia to build more missiles. National TV Title: Jake “The Snake” Roberts © vs. Roger Bond (3/10/84) Squash. #1 Contender Tournament for the NWA World Heavyweight Title – Quarterfinals: Jack Brisco vs. Sweet Brown Sugar (Skip Young) (3/10/84) Brisco works his scientific heel style here grabbing the mask of Sugar on takedowns and other assorted cheats. Spoiler would come out to distract Sugar letting Jack attack him from behind with a knee to the back. Sugar would soon regain the advantage though although that changed on a perfect fireman’s carry by Jack. Sugar would comeback though with a sweet counter into a bodyscissors that Jack would break out of by attacking Sugar’s left leg. Jack would go for the figure-four but Sugar would reverse into an inside cradle for a nearfall followed up by a bodypress by Sugar that Brisco would roll over into his own cradle for the win. I liked this a lot and this goes on the block. The Road Warriors (Animal & Hawk) vs. Steve Brinson & Mike Starbuck (3/10/84) Squash. The Spoiler vs. Steve Brinson (3/10/84) Squash. Rocky Jones vs. Larry Santana (3/10/84) Jones was a Zbyszko protégé hence why he got work here.
