#1 Contender Tournament for the NWA World Heavyweight Title – Quarterfinals: Brad Armstrong vs. Jake “The Snake: Roberts (3/17/84)

This is a rare champ vs. champ match on TV and Flair is on commentary after shaking both men’s hands before the match. Jake’s ribs are taped up and have been for the last week due to Ronnie Garvin’s hard punches. The match has a slow start with Jake working on Brad’s left foot but Armstrong would get back up fighting back just to get kicked in the face by Jake who would resume control. Jake pounds on Brad for a while before he would make a fiery comeback. Armstrong would get caught though with the high kneelift before Jake would go back to work on Brad. Jake would miss a running splash in the corner hurting his ribs and Brad would come back with a Russian legsweep to get the win. This was a very good TV match and a low-end nomination.

Ole wants Ellering to come out to talk about the Roadies losing to Austin Idol & Jerry Lawler and they show a video of the Idol/Lawler team. Ellering comes out and Ole wants him to sign a contract for a match between the teams.

Crusher Blackwell vs. Dale Veasy (3/17/84)

Squash.

Next we get clips of Armstrong/Spoiler from the Omni on 3/11/84.

#1 Contender Tournament for the NWA World Heavyweight Title – Quarterfinals: “White Lightning” Tim Horner vs. Road Warrior Hawk (3/17/84)

Flair shakes hands with Horner and Ellering not Hawk. Horner makes his debut in this tournament which was weird and Hawk’s first singles match on TV. Horner starts good but Hawk would soon use his power to take control. Horner would counter out of a press slam though into an O’Connor Roll to get the huge upset victory. This is definite extra material.

“Nature Boy” Ric Flair vs. Pat Rose (3/17/84)

Another good Flair TV match.

Les Thornton vs. Roger Bond (3/17/84)

Les looks great.

The Spoiler vs. Jason Walker (3/17/84)

Squash.

#1 Contender Tournament for the NWA World Heavyweight Title – Semifinals: Brad Armstrong vs. “White Lightning” Tim Horner (3/24/84)

The future Lightning Express collides here. This was a damn good wrestling match that would have a shitty finish when Hawk shows up for revenge and hits Brad with a clothesline that was intended for Horner for the DQ. Could’ve been a nomination if not for the finish.

Jack Brisco comes out cutting a promo about wrestling Tim Horner but it’s Brad he is supposed to wrestle and he says that if he wrestling Brad then he wrestles him today and not next week.

The Road Warriors (Animal & Hawk) vs. Roger Bond & Jason Walker (3/24/84)

Squash.

Next is another video for Idol/Lawler followed up with a promo.

#1 Contender Tournament for the NWA World Heavyweight Title – Finals: Jack Brisco vs. Brad Armstrong (3/24/84)

Brad comes into this with a bad neck from earlier in the show. I love Brad using the fireman’s carry twice early in the match just to piss off Jack since that is his move. Brad took it to Jack early showing no sign of a neck problem but he would collide with Jack and went to the floor hard. Jack would drop a leg on Brad’s neck as he was on the bottom rope and went right to work on the neck when Brad got back on the ring. Jack would scissor his legs around Brad’s neck forcing Brad to submit. Fun for what it was.

Then we get a Jos LeDuc squash from Memphis and a taped promo.

Jake “The Snake” Roberts vs. Mike Starbuck (3/24/84)

Squash.

Brisco comes back out and explains that he has his mind on winning the world title and not Brad Armstrong’s injury.

The Spoiler vs. Randy Barber (3/24/84)

Squash.

Jesse Barr & Les Thornton vs. Tommy Rogers & Pistol Pez Whatley (3/24/84)

This went like 3 minutes before TV time ran out.

Flair comes out wearing quite the satin shirt on his way to San Juan. Ole comes out wearing his Filipino shirt as he is on his way to San Juan as well. (3/31/84)

The Spoiler vs. Joe Turner (3/31/84)

Squash.

Next we get a workout video for Ronnie Garvin and his saga against Jake the Snake. This is extra material. (3/31/84)

Then we get a video for Jos LeDuc to Bang Your Head by Quiet Riot along with another taped promo.
