Posted June 26, 200817 yr comment_5432465 The Cobra vs. Kuniaki Kobayashi (WWF Junior Title League) (1/6/84) - I love how these Cobra matches start off before the bell even sounds. Early on, it looks like they are not on the same page but once it goes back to the outside, the match takes off. Kobayashi gets posted and blood flows. Once he gains control with a Figure-4, Kobayashi brings the hate. He chokes Cobra on the ropes while Cobra tries in vain to kick him in the back to get him off. His bloody headbutts and a gut kick lead to Kobayashi tearing at Cobra's mask. They go back and forth and there are some really sweet looking spots such as Cobra's superkick and KObayashi's suicide dive where from the long camera angle, it looks like Kobayashi went splat on the rail but they sell it like he hit Cobra. There are a few awkward spots such as a possibly botched suplex to the inside and a dropkick that misses but Kobayashi sells anyway. Both men are counted out while outside on the apron. This is the tale of two matches. You have the hate-filled blood-filled, mask-tearing and crazy spots. Then you have the worst in Jr. style wrestling with overselling on no contact, botched spots and a lack of focus. I'll nominate it to see what you guys think. (NJC 157)
September 11, 200817 yr comment_5434506 This was a mess, no doubt, but a highly enjoyable one. Kobayashi set a frenetic tone with his pre-bell attack. I also loved the viciousness he showed after Cobra busted him open. And Cobra's highspot sequence was fun after he went back on offense. He was unorthodox enough that I'm occasionally unsure if he screwed up a move or simply did it differently than anyone else would have. Despite the lack of cohesion, this match had a lot of fire and connected with the crowd. I seem to remember their August match being more spectacular, so that might push this out. But for now, I'll vote yea.
August 21, 200916 yr comment_5443126 This is a trainwreck, it had some cool spots, and some heat, but both guys were fucking things up left and right. I liked Kobyashi tope his mouth into a rail, but I don't think we put something on the set because the blown spots are entertaining.
August 21, 200916 yr comment_5443153 Will mentions them not being on the same page at beginning. I don't remember them ever being on the same page. It had a lot of heat and had this really out of control reckless feel to it and all the misscomunication added to it. It reminded me of the Dudleys v New Jack and Spike matches that I saw live where shit was blown left and right and that added to atmosphere. And I kind of dug that feeling a bunch but I really can't see putting this on set.
