Posted June 26, 200817 yr comment_5432468 Dynamite Kid vs. Davey Boy Smith (WWF Junior Title League) (2/3/84) - Early on, Davey tries a unique strategy of running off the ropes to apply pinning holds.... body press, sunset flip, cruciifix. However, a DK knee ends that strategy. When Davey regains control, he hits a few big moves (powerslam, press slam) before grounding DK in a headlock. DK escapes and takes control with an octopus. DK thinks he has softened him up enough to go for the headbutt but he misses of course. After about 8 minutes, you can tell Davey is gassed because he is trading one resthold for another. The last couple of minutes has Davey trying to throw every move in the book at DK in an attmept to win. Hh hits a sweet dive, he goes for a top-rope dropkick and clotheslines DK out of the ring. However, out of the ring, DK gets a back suplex and beats the count for the win. This could easily be viewed as the stronger yet more experienced Davey being shown up by the "wiser" and more experienced DK. DK may not have as much strength but he capitalized when it mattered. Despite its flaws, I'll nominate it for some nice sequences and the novelty factor. (NJC 159)
September 13, 200817 yr comment_5434531 They could have worked a fun 10-minute match with Davey as the younger, more athletic guy and Dynamite as the veteran who cut him off by being a surly prick. Davey's early sequence of attempted roll-ups was a nice start. Unfortunately, they went well beyond 10 minutes, and Davey gassed anytime he worked hard for more than two. Neither of these guys were good at working mat holds, so the rest segments really dragged. I liked Dynamite ending it with the opportunistic suplex on the outside for a countout. Again, that would have fit the suggested storyline. But I found this match pretty frustrating in total. No vote from me.
May 14, 200916 yr Author comment_5439442 I amgoing to go ahead and give this the axe. It is sad that a year later, I remember this match simply because I thought the match-up had to be included even though we always find a way for the best matches to find their way on the set. I'll withdraw the nomination and give it the green face.
