Posted August 13, 200817 yr comment_5433986 For what this was, this is about as good as it gets, crowd is going batshit. Lots of near falls as Maeda gets Nielsen to the ground but can’t finish him before the bell. Nielsen really tags him with shots. A lot of this kind of stuff looks bad post MMA boom, but this has to make a set. Best of NJPW v. UWF 2, Disc 1
November 3, 200816 yr comment_5435524 I've always liked this match. The striker vs. grappler dynamic is tried and true and they made it work with extra notes of competitiveness and desperation. I found myself wondering if I'd be happy to see this match on an MMA show. And I decided that even though it wasn't a perfect representation of what MMA would become, it's a hell of a lot of fun. I'll be interested to see how people react to it in the midst of all the more classic wrestling. Appears on NJ TV 10/9/86
August 10, 200916 yr comment_5442670 I am completely wierded out by this. This is not a wrestling match. Like you guys, I enjoyed this and Nielsen was NAILING Maeda with some lefts but how do you judge this next to a Chavo Guerrero match or Liger-Sano? I want to watch the Fujiwara match but this almost seems like an extra to me. I am going to put in DOUBT right now because I have no idea what to do with this thing.
August 10, 200916 yr Author comment_5442671 It was a work, in a wrestling fed. No doubt in my mind it should be on the set.
August 10, 200916 yr comment_5442673 How is it any harder than comparing a concession stand brawl to a Lawler/Bockwinkel match? They're clearly worked matches, and famous ones at that, so I don't see the problem.
August 10, 200916 yr comment_5442676 Eh, I watched this again today and I'll chalk it up to something like the Orchestra match (not the Concession Stand match) where it is wierd and funky enough to make the set but isn't something I will rank particularly high.
