This is as good as their best UWF 1 match ups, not as good as their 88 classic, but certainly something which should make a set. Some of the kicks didn’t connect the way they should have, but unlike some of the lesser UWF stuff, they didn’t sell the stuff that didn’t land. Finish was pretty nifty too, with Maeda catching the leg on a Takada kick, and turning it into the dreaded UWF half crab.

I agree with Phil that this didn't reach the level of their best matches but was plenty good enough to pull a nomination. It also carries some historical import as the first UWF match wrestled in an NJ ring. They introduced the style here and in the Maeda-Fujiwara match the following week before launching the big NJ-UWF feud. They were smart to run these "intro" matches because the crowd clearly did not know when to pop for a lot of what they did.

This match was wierd in that I wanted it to be better than it actually was. I like both guys so I was actually kind of disappointed. You can give them points for no-selling the botched moves but do you take away for actually botching the move? If this match is historically important than throw it on but I wouldn't mind if it was left off actually. There are more Maeda and Takada matches that I like alot more than this. I enjoy Maeda and Takada kicking the fuck out of each other but just like his junior work, I dread Takada laying around on the mat.
