Posted August 14, 200817 yr comment_5434056 1. Bobby Fulton, Mike, + Kerry Von Erich vs Gino Hernandez, Chris Adams, + Jake Roberts - Cotton Bowl, 10-27-84 This takes place on the same show as the big Adams/Kevin angle. I liked this match. Adams playing the cowardly heel was all kinds of greatness. The crowd was just on him. The spot where Fulton tagged Kerry and Adams tagged out as quick as possible was great and the crowd just booed. Adams and Jake looked just fantastic here, while Kerry carried the stuff for his side. I thought Kerry as FIP was well done, and all 3 heels did a good job working him over. That super kick that Kerry ate from Adams was just killer. This finally lead to the hot tag to Mike. I just loved the finish to this. Just another good 6 man from Dallas and a nomonation. int: Gino Hernandez, Chris Adams, + Jake Roberts, post match 2. Ric Flair vs Kevin Von Erich - Reunion Arena This is JIP 5 minutes in. I'm going to wait on this match because I know we have this in full. 3. Terry Gordy + Michael Hayes vs Kerry + Kevin Von Erich - country whipping match This was a boatload of fun. I loved how the Freebirds didn't want to take their shirts off. Of course the Von Erichs weren't going to allow that and just ripped the shirts off the Birds.Hayes was tremendous in his running over hot coals selling. P.S was so good in his stoogeing here. Bam Bam was his great self as usual. How cool did Kerry look twirling 2 straps at once. This wasn't a masterpiece but it was a cool match that deserves a nomination. 4. Kamala vs Junkyard Dog This didn't do much for me. - Pro Wrestling This Week Parade of Champions III review int: Bruiser Brody - Pro wrestling This Week match 6 women mud pit battle royal - Texas Stadium, 5-3-87 A nothing match. 5. Mil Mascaras vs Al Madril - Texas Stadium, 5-3-87 This was fine. It was designed to make Mil look good. Mission was acomplished. Mil was real smooth on the mat, and had some good highspots here. 6. Red River Jack + Spike Huber vs Abdullah the Butcher + Eli the Eliminator - Texas Stadium, 5-3-87 This is a brawl mixed up with some traditional southern tag work. This was fine, but not memorable and not a nomination. I loved Huber's bump into the scaffolding. Huber looked real good in this match. 7. Kevin Von Erich vs Nord the Barbarian - Texas Stadium, 5-3-87 I didn't find this particulary good. When both guys took the bump over the top rope I thought Nord was going to break his neck. 8. Bruiser Brody vs Jeep Swenson - Texas Stadium, 5-3-87 This was a brawl, but not a memoreable one. 9. Spike Huber vs Eli the Eliminator - Ft Worth This is JIP and the crowd is sparse. 10. Rock N Roll RPM's + Eric Embry vs Fantastics + Steve Simpson - scaffold match; Texas Stadium, 5-3-87 This was fine. - Pro Wrestling This Week match Tony Atlas vs Tony Falk Atlas wins a squash. 11. Chris Adams + Iceman Parsons vs Jimmy Garvin + Missing Link Adams mimicking of Garvin before the match was fun. I thought this was another good little 10 minute tag from the Adams/Parsons team. Adams was tremendous in the FIP role. I thought Miising Link worked his ass off. The crowd was just hot, and just blew their load when Adams made the hot tag to the Ice man. This was just a good tag that gets a nomination from me. The finish hurt it, but that bump Adams takes from a Link headbutt was superb and showed some super athleticism.
December 8, 200817 yr comment_5436275 World Class Six-Man Tag Titles: Bobby Fulton (subbing for Kevin), Kerry & Mike Von Erich © vs. The Dynamic Duo (“Gentleman” Chris Adams & “Handsome Halfbreed” Gino Hernandez) & Jake “The Snake” Roberts (10/27/84) Fulton was an odd fit to sub here but he worked hard in the match. The crowd everyone on the heel side’s guts especially Adams who worked this after the Kevin injury angle so the fans were disgusted with him. Jake & Gino were solid in their roles of taking punishment plus making Mike look good. Adams would only tag in when Kerry was in danger and he would play the FIP role getting worked over by the heels who were quick tagging. During this Adams would just jack Kerry’s jaw with a Superkick. Kerry would finally make his comeback on Adams hitting him with the discus punch before tagging in Mike who would go nuts on Adams before he would fall prey to the heels who would pound on him. Kerry & Fulton would also get some more pounding before the match turned into a 6-way brawl with Kerry trying to suplex Jake but Adams hit him with a Superkick with Jake falling on him for the win. There was a great celebration in the heel locker room afterwards. This was a good match and a nomination. Country Whipping Match: Kerry & Kevin Von Erich vs. The Fabulous Freebirds (Terry “Bamm Bamm” Gordy & Michael Hayes) (11/4/83) The Birds didn’t want to take their shirts off so the Von Erichs obliged them and tore them off themselves before starting to whip them with the straps. This was so awesome as all four men just took their turns in strapping the hell out of each other with the Birds selling their asses off while taking brutal punishment. I would not want to be whipped by the Von Erichs as they were laying in the shots. Kerry using two straps at once was fucking great before Kevin got chunked over the top rope for the DQ which was a shitty finish. Kerry got beat on after the match until Kevin was able to make the save. Tremendous stuff and a definite nomination. Then we get more PWTW clips from Texas Stadium on 5/3/87. Mil Mascaras vs. Al Madril (5/3/87) Mil looked good here as Madril was a good opponent for Mil at this time of his career. There was a clip in the middle so we missed some stuff. Spike Huber & Red River Jack (Brody) vs. Abdullah the Butcher & Eli the Eliminator (5/3/87) Huber is working a labor union gimmick, which is interesting in wrestling which had no union. This had blood and some good brawling with Huber holding his own but this wasn’t much of anything to me. The brawl after the match though was really fun with RRJ ripping off Gary Hart’s shirt and hitting him with a chair on the floor so that could be extra material. World Class World Heavyweight Title: Kevin Von Erich © vs. Nord the Barbarian (5/3/87) Nord getting the title shot proved that at this time WCCW had zero lead heels and Gary Hart was pretty much the top heel but he couldn’t work or managed guys that were good workers. Kevin tried here but Nord was pretty terrible and moved very slowly. There was an interesting spot here where Nord had Kevin in a Canadian Backbreaker but Kevin locked on the iron claw until Nord backed him into the ropes where they went over the top with Nord almost breaking his neck on the apron. The match would then end on a shitty double countout. Bruiser Brody vs. Jeep Swenson (5/3/87) Nothing much to this but Brody does bleed and pounds on Jeep. Then we get clips of Huber vs. Eli from Fort Worth and there was tens of people in the crowd. WCCW was quite the embarassment at this time as there was few name guys and the guys they had were not good workers mostly. It would pick up a little later in the year and into 1988 but this was pretty bad times. Scaffold Match: The Fantastics (Bobby Fulton & Tommy Rogers) & Steve Simpson vs. “Flamboyant” Eric Embry & The Rock n Roll RPM’s (Mike Davis & Tommy Lane) (5/3/87) There was some cool spots here like the guys fighting on the ladders of the scaffold and then Fulton was trying to use headbutts to take out Embry on the scaffold. Davis accidentally threw powder in Embry’s eyes so he could take the fall and it was quite the fall. This was fun for what it was and I think it should be extra material. More clips from PWTW. “Gorgeous” Jimmy Garvin & The Missing Link vs. “Gentleman” Chris Adams & Iceman King Parsons (3/2/84) Adams prancing around before the match wearing Garvin’s coat and gloves is awesome with Sunshine reliving her old duties taking off Adams’ gear while posed and pranced more. Adams got worked over early on by both heels especially Garvin but made his own comeback and tagged in Iceman who would go on the offense as Sunshine & Precious started to brawl on the floor before being broken up. The focus of this match of course was Adams & Garvin and Garvin was more vicious here than normal since Adams had stole his stuff. Adams played FIP and the crowd was going nuts for him to get over to Iceman but it would take a bit as both Garvin & Link got their shots in. Iceman would finally get the tag and cleaned house before the 4-way brawl started with Link headbutting Adams over the top rope to the floor leaving Iceman to get double teamed. Garvin would hold Iceman down so Link could come off the top rope with a diving headbutt and Bronko Lubich would call for the DQ for some reason. Garvin would get his clothes but Adams would attack him nad got the clothes back for himself. This was a very good match and should move forward.
October 22, 200916 yr comment_5445316 Bobby Fulton, Mike, + Kerry Von Erich vs Gino Hernandez, Chris Adams, + Jake Roberts - Cotton Bowl, 10-27-84 I had seen part of this on another disc and figured it would be an easy nomination. Having seen it in full, I can now say for sure that it is. Full speed ahead on this one. int: Gino Hernandez, Chris Adams, + Jake Roberts, post match God damn, look at the welts on the Dynamic Duo's chests! Roberts making time with his future half-sister-in-law is somewhat odd. Kamala vs Junkyard Dog For a match that was nothing but chokeholds, clawholds, and chinlocks, this was surprisingly fun. Chalk it up to Kamala being so expressive. I swear there's a moment when JYD starts to break his chokehold that he actually does a Jack Benny take to the camera. Still, JYD was basically done by this point, and this isn't exactly nomination material. Pro Wrestling This Week Parade of Champions III review int: Bruiser Brody Say what you will about Brody's work - and I've said plenty - the man had a certain undeniable appeal that really strikes me after watching all these discs. I don't think that appeal comes forward very often in his matches, but you can see it stuff like this. It's a strong interview, and I'd consider it as an extra. Pro wrestling This Week match 6 women mud pit battle royal - Texas Stadium, 5-3-87 Speaking as a pervert, I never really got the appeal of mud wrestling. Solie pointed out afterwords that it was hard to tell who was who, and that's exactly right. How can I be titillated by beautiful, scantily-clad women when I can't even see them? I mean, I know some people thought Rebecca Romijn was sexy as Mystique in the X-Men movies, but...well, I just don't get it. The most effective part of this match is Candy throwing mud at Percival Pringle. Mil Mascaras vs Al Madril - Texas Stadium, 5-3-87 Heel Madril is really winning me over. Loved him begging off en espagnol. There was a clip in the middle, don't know how much we missed. Red River Jack + Spike Huber vs Abdullah the Butcher + Eli the Eliminator - Texas Stadium, 5-3-87 Huber looked good, but this was otherwise unremarkable. Kevin Von Erich vs Nord the Barbarian - Texas Stadium, 5-3-87 Kevin makes it watchable as always, but Nord was not very impressive here. Bruiser Brody vs Jeep Swenson - Texas Stadium, 5-3-87 Better than I had expected, but still nothing special. Spike Huber vs Eli the Eliminator - Ft Worth What little is shown of the match is OK, but that is one sad looking crowd. Rock N Roll RPM's + Eric Embry vs Fantastics + Steve Simpson - scaffold match; Texas Stadium, 5-3-87 The second best scaffold match I have ever seen. Still, the gulf in quality between this and Dundee/Koko is pretty big. Not a nomination. Chris Adams + Iceman Parsons vs Jimmy Garvin + Missing Link The pre-match stuff was so great. Adams/Garvin was such a great feud. Lame finish aside, this was one of the feuds better chapters. It goes ahead without question, and is something that would probably finish high on my ballot.
October 22, 200916 yr comment_5445326 I know this is your baby, and I haven't seen the match, but I think we should try to have a scaffold match on every set possible
October 23, 200916 yr comment_5445328 I know this is your baby, and I haven't seen the match, but I think we should try to have a scaffold match on every set possible I was somewhat tempted for that very reason. You would probably love this match, and it is not a bad match by any means. But I can't see myself really fighting for it.
