Posted August 20, 200817 yr comment_5434133 Well, this is one of those matches that almost has to be on the set. And I'd say it deserves to be, though it doesn't hold up as a Match of the Decade contender. I liked that Tiger Mask, confronted with an opponent who could go move for move with him, upped the violence quotient. His strikes really did look sudden and deadly in this match. The first segment featured some pretty pointless mat noodling (Dynamite was never very good on the mat as far as I can tell.) But the restart after they went hurdling into the crowd was pretty dramatic as was the image of Dynamite going after Tiger Mask with broken bottles. Nomination.
June 28, 200916 yr comment_5441275 Tiger Mask vs. Dynamite Kid (NWA Junior Title Decision) - Tiger Mask executes a really nice plancha early on. Lots of laying around on the mat in this one. Like the August match, you can tell they are going long. This one was much more action=packed though with big bumps from both men. I am not going to go to the wall for it and nominate it though.
June 28, 200916 yr comment_5441276 Haven't watched this in many years, but this did finish #2 on Bowdren's best matches of 80's list. Probably have to throw it on even if we don't love it.
June 29, 200916 yr comment_5441309 Decision Match for the vacant NWA World Jr. Heavyweight Title: Tiger Mask vs. Dynamite Kid (4/21/83) This is the most famous match between these two eternal rivals. This starts out slow so yeah this is going to be a long one for these two but TM kicks it up as he hits a flying plancha through the ropes on DK. DK would then answer with an awesome missile dropkick off the top rope before going back to the mat. DK goes for the mask as often as he can and both men pound each other with shots here as their two year feud is coming to a crescendo. I loved the TM plancha from the apron on DK sending them both over the security railing causing the crowd to go nuts which would spawn two restarts with DK nuking TM with a tombstone piledriver/diving headbutt combo on the last one although TM would answer back with a backdrop suplex. This would spawn into both men working a frenzied pace putting it all on the line and DK being a madman headbutting Kotetsu Yamamoto twice then ending up with both men giving each other tombstone piledrivers on the floor. The fans want yet another restart but DK who is bleeding from the nose wants the belt which he doesn’t get. Was this a spotfest yeah but it was a heated one with both men putting it all on the line. Like Phil said this finished #2 on the Bowdren list and although it doesn’t hold up like it did 20 years ago it still is a damn solid match and should move forward.
August 10, 200916 yr comment_5442681 I put this in here as one of those "famous" matches that has to be on the set. I don't even like the match.
August 27, 200916 yr comment_5443386 I thought it was a super shitty finish, but this definitely has the ragged violence of this was good stuff. I didn't hate this as much as some of the other Tiger Mask matches, this won't finish high on my list, but it should make a set.
