Posted August 29, 200817 yr comment_5434284 Iceman King Parsons & Johnny Mantell vs. Buddy Roberts & The Mongol This was a lot of fun, and I was real tempted to nominate it, if only because I need to nominate a Parsons/Roberts match, but I just haven't found the one yet. This came close, but couldn't really justify going for it as anything more than a lowest-of-the-low-end nominee. Still, this was a really fun TV match. Parsons and Roberts bring all the great stuff they always bring against each other. Mantell is really fun on the mat, his constant frustrating of the heels with single-leg takedowns was a lot of fun. I'm not sure who The Mongol is, but he was a perfectly fine power brawler. If someone else nominates this, I'd second it, but not sure there's enough to it that I'd do it on my own. Kamala vs. Mike Reed Squash. Not a particularly remarkable one, either, which breaks my heart as a Kamala mark. Ron Starr vs. Mr. Ebony Who was Mr. Ebony again? This was nothing special. Skandor Akbar interview Akbar complains about the lack of competition. Nothing special. Kerry Von Erich "Eye of the Tiger" video The announcer who isn't Bill Mercer actually is Bill Mercer. I didn't recognize him without the Abraham Lincoln-esque sideburns-and-beard with no mustache look he had been sporting before. Brass Knux Title Match: Terry Gordy © vs. Kerry Von Erich I've talked about this one already. Gave it a nomination and everything. Freebirds interview Fun as always, but not a stand-out. Thunderlips scene from "Rocky III" I almost feel like this should be an extra somewhere (AWA set?). I forgot how much fun this was. David Von Erich interview This is the interview that sets up the match with Jimmy Garvin that sets up the "Garvin and Sunshine spend a day as David's valets" vignette that's a mortal lock to make the extras set. Nothing particularly remarkable about this interview in and of itself, though. Advertisements for a big St. Louis show King Kong Brody demands that we be there! Mr. Ebony vs. Mike Bond JIP and ended just the same. Skandor Akbar interview Akbar hems and haws about Bruiser Brody attacking Kamala at Star Wars. Exact Same advertisement for a big St. Louis show King Kong Brody still demands that we be there! Lumberjack Match: Kerry Von Erich vs. Terry Gordy I considered this as a low-end nomination, but decided against it, because it's not like there aren't going to be a million other matches with these two paired against each other that will be just as good or better. Hell, there already was one earlier on this very DVD. Liked cocky Gordy early with his armdrags and celebratory prancing, but then the middle of the match is built around a bearhug. I'm not anti-bearhug, Kerry was pretty good selling it, and after escaping one, Gordy just came charging out of the corner to grab another, which was kinda cool. But you spend that much time in a row working the bearhug, it's gonna drag down the match. It's Kerry and Gordy. You want to see them slugging it out, not hugging it out. There was plenty of clubberin' when not in the bearhug, and I enjoyed this match a lot more than it probably sounds like, but it probably wasn't nomination good. Jimmy Garvin interview He calls the Von Erichs chickens. That's about it. Manny Fernandez vs. Hercules Hernandez This begins the St. Louis portion of the disc. Good match. Manny does yeoman's work making Hercules' famously shitty offense look devastating, and gives just as good as he gets. Advertisement for a different St. Louis event King Kong Brody has nothing to say to us. I hope we didn't hurt his feelings. Roddy Piper vs. Steve Sypert Highlight of the match is Lord Alfred Hayes introducing Piper as being from Scotland, right before the chyron comes up informing us that Piper is from Winnipeg, Canada. Oops. Nothing else going on here. Hulk Hogan interview Out of nowhere, we take an unadvertised foray to the AWA, where Hulk Hogan, presently banned from the fed, cuts a promo where he actually shows remorse for his failings (WHO ARE YOU AND WHAT HAVE YOU DONE WITH HULK HOGAN?!) before promising to ruin Nick Bockwinkel's career with a fiendish gleam in his eye. 2/3 Falls: Wahoo McDaniel & Jake Milliman vs. Jesse Ventura & Blackjack Lanza First fall is JIP and won by Wahoo. Lanza takes the second fall for the heels.....and the disc ends.
July 12, 200916 yr comment_5441816 Iceman King Parsons & Johnny Mantell vs. Buddy Roberts & The Mongol This the only bout I haven't seen or is worth talking about. This was a fun tag that doesn't get a nomination from me. It is a lot of fun though With Parsons, and Roberts adding to their great feud.
