Posted August 30, 200817 yr comment_5434306 Give these guys 20 minutes, as they did here, and you were bound to get something good. All four were sharp, and this encompassed all the major themes of the faction rivalry. You had a hot opening and middle sequence between Choshu and Fujinami. You had Maeda in peril but showing more maturity by never getting trapped for too long. You had Hamaguchi and Choshu as master double teamers. You had Fujinami continuing the momentum he had built against Choshu. It was all action and, though not the best match in the feud by any means, a solid nomination. This wasn't in Dan's listings but appeared on the same disc as the 8/26/83 show.
August 30, 200916 yr comment_5443552 I am kind of torn on this one. Everything Childs mentioned is true. Maeda wasn't as dumb as he was in the previous match. Ishingunden busted out the double teams, the crowd was hot and it was action throughout... but nothing was very memorable. This was one of those wierd mid-level matches where the work was solid but 10 minutes later, you would have trouble remembering anything special about it. There isn't a clear spot, story, angle, facial expression, sequence, blood, etc. that if someone name-drops this match that you would eb able to know what match we are talking about. The clean ending with the roll-up on Hamaguchi helps but if it goes on the set, cool. If it stays off, cool. Compoletely on the fence.
August 31, 200916 yr comment_5443583 I think I am with Will here, these Choshu tags are starting to flow together a bit, and this was a perfectly fine example of one of them. Still it felt a little house showish, nothing here stuck out, I liked everything, but it is the same stuff I always like in these matches, nasty Choshu lariat counter of a scorpion, Animal Hamiguchi's sick elbow drops. Add in the same double count out finish, this could stay or go with me.
