Posted September 5, 200817 yr comment_5434395 New Japan Pro Wrestling TV (November 11th & 18th 1983) 1. Animal Hamaguchi vs Seiji Sakaguchi (3/11) - I guess this was actually the first of a four-match series between Seiki Gundan and Ishin Gundan, but it was the last one shown on TV. It had its moments, especially when they brawled, but they couldn't maintain a nice flow for the duration of the match. Hamaguchi scored the upset when Sakaguchi flipped him over the barrier. 2. The Cobra vs Davey Boy Smith (3/11) - One of the weirdest match presentations I've ever seen. They showed Davey Boy's pre-bell assault and early armwork but then cut to a music video with slow-motion highlights of the middle of the match. Then, they cut back for the finish. Both guys showed impressive athleticism but I would have no idea how to rate this. I'd almost suggest using it as an extra because it was so weird. 3. Osamu Kido, Tatsumi Fujinami & Antonio Inoki vs Brian Blair, Steve Wright & Big John Studd - Who dreamed up this match? The gaijin team was so ill-fitting. Studd was a heelish stiff. Blair was a generic babyface. And Alex Wright's dad was a pasty, balding European with a bunch of flashy moves. So yeah, the match was kind of a mess, though a fun one when Wright was in. 4. Yoshikai Yatsu & Kuniaki Kobayashi vs Wayne Bridges & Otto Wanz - This began a series of 5-minute exhibitions, meant to set the stage for the tag league, I guess. Wanz was built unlike any wrestler I've ever seen, even other fat guys. 5. Seiji Sakaguchi & Kengo Kimura vs Curt Hennig & Bobby Duncum - Henning showed the fluidity that would distinguish him but nothing of much note in this 5-minute draw. 6. Animal Hamaguchi & Riki Choshu vs Adrian Adonis & Dick Murdoch - Fun 5 minutes but it was 5 minutes. 7. Akira Maeda & Tatsumi Fujinami vs Swede Hanson & Andre the Giant - Ditto. This is an irritating format for wrestling television. 8. Tiger Toguchi & Killer Khan vs Antonio Inoki & Hulk Hogan - And again, Bah!
September 5, 200817 yr comment_5434396 Is Davey-Cobra the match where Davey starts under a mask and the fans are supposed to think it's Dynamite? I'm pretty sure it's complete on Classics.
