1. David Von Erich vs Jimmy Garvin - Garvin wins Texas title

These wrestlers worked each other quite a bit in Texas. This is the 1st one. Garvin's stalling is entertaining. I liked David grinding that standing headlock. I dug how Garvin suckered David into the corner for the head into his stomach. It was cool how Garvin was trash talking while he had DVE in the headlock/modified sleeper. Garvin's showing his utter fear from the claw was well executed. I thought this was a well worked match that gave Garvin a lot of steam for this feud. I'm on the fence for a nomination. I'll come back and revisit it at another time.

2. Jimmy Garvin vs Jose Lothario

It's weird to see Lothario wrestle these colorful heels Like Garvin, and Hayes. Just like the Hayes match this was solid.

3. King Kong Bundy vs Tollah Yatsu

This was more of an angle to set up the Kendo stick match.

4. Michael Hayes + Terry Goryd vs Kerry + Kevin Von Erich - Texas tornado match

This is just an all out kick ass brawl. Just kicks, punches, and high impact stuff. The crowd popped huge for the dbl claw spot. The match gets thrown out when David and Roberts get involved and it's just out of control. I liked this match, but it falls short for a nomination. We are going to have a ton of this matchup. To me this was one of their lesser ones. It was still a ton of fun though.

5. Little Cocoa vs Billy the Kid

Solid.

int: Freebirds

Wow this was just some race baiting.

int: Kerry, Kevin, + David Von Erich

int: King Kong Bundy

6. Iceman Parsons vs Kabuki

It was there. Parsons looked good at times.

7. Jimmy Garvin vs Mike Bond - State Fair Coliseum

A squash. Gotta love the DVE spanking of Sunshine.

- Kevin Von Erich promo

- Ric Flair promo

8. Michael Hayes vs Iceman Parsons - State Fair Coliseum

A nothing match.

int: Bill Mercer w/ Jimmy Garvin getting "prettied" up

This was a neat skit, and a possible extra.

9. Kabuki vs Tollah Yatsu - kendo stick match; State Fair Coliseum

Less than 3 minutes.

Texas Heavyweight Title: David Von Erich © vs. “Gorgeous” Jimmy Garvin (3/4/83)

This is their first match of their feud that would take up a lot of 1983 and Garvin’s first on TV. This had a good dynamic with Garvin as the prettyboy cocky heel against the country boy David and Garvin was great in his role even if he wasn’t a great worker. Garvin was great at talking shit and made it where you wanted to see him get his ass kicked but he would fight back everytime David tried something like the claw. David would then try for his high kneelift but Garvin ducked and he went flying over the top rope to the floor injuring his shoulder. Garvin would then make sure David came back in the ring and hit a brainbuster for the win. Garvin becomes a huge name on this and with his character flourished here with this feud being the catalyst. I think this deserves to be on the block for consideration as it was a solid match.

“Gorgeous” Jimmy Garvin vs. “Supersock” Jose Lothario (3/18/83)

This was more fun than good as Lothario was quite the antithesis for Garvin and it allowed Garvin to get more heel heat by beating on the old man. Lothario would give Garvin everything he could do leading to Garvin having to use the ropes to get the win but the pinfall was screwy. Garvin had him by the legs and the ref made the count even though that really wasn’t a pin. The best part after the match was Sunshine battling her tube top trying to keep it from falling.

Mercer then interviews Akbar & Bundy again in the Devastation Inc. boardroom with Akbar talking about his stake in OPEC as oil dropped to $5 a barrel. Jesus Christ could you imagine if it was that price today and we should put this on as an extra due to the current events with oil prices.

King Kong Bundy vs. Yoshiaki Yatsu (3/18/83)

Yatsu got a big push here. This was heel vs. heel so not a lot of heat here and this was mostly to setup the future kendo stick match with the returning Great Kabuki.

Texas Tornado Match: The Fabulous Freebirds (Terry “Bamm Bamm” Gordy & Michael Hayes) vs. Kerry & Kevin Von Erich (3/18/83)

Now this is the key four men of the feud having an all out war with David & Buddy on the floor. The action was fast and furious with all four men beating each other’s asses throwing bombs on each other. We would get double claw holds but Gordy would launch Kevin over the top rope but it didn’t matter as he came back in blazing. David & Buddy would get involved for the DDQ and once again even with a crappy DDQ finish, this is a nomination.

Little Coco vs. Billy the Kid (3/18/83)

Another fun match from the midgets.

Freebirds then cut a great promo about getting rid of the Von Erichs.

Then we get a promo from wrestlers about Iceman Parsons featuring Kerry dancing like him and Freebirds bringing the racism.

Iceman Parsons vs. The Great Kabuki (3/18/83)

This was okay for what it was which was to give Iceman a huge win over one of the top heels.

“Gorgeous” Jimmy Garvin vs. Mike Bond (4/1/83)

This is from the State Fair Coliseum and David Von Erich comes out before the match demanding a rematch at the Texas title and it ends up with Garvin attacking David who would have to be held back. Garvin is awesome here and would win easily but David would come back and would end up spanking Sunshine. Extra material.

Then we get promos by Flair & Kevin regarding their NWA title match later that night.

Michael Hayes vs. Iceman King Parsons (4/1/83)

Hayes was great here selling and bumping his ass off for Iceman and there was an interesting finish as Iceman hit a cross body block with Hayes rolling over getting the pin with his feet on the ropes. Fun while it lasted.

Next we get Mercer interviewing Jimmy Garvin at the salon and this is extra material.

Dragon-Shi Match: Yoshiaki Yatsu vs. The Great Kabuki (4/1/83)

Kabuki gets the kendo stick first but they both would use it to beat on each other and the fans were cheering for Kabuki here which was odd. Yatsu would knock Kabuki off of top rope leading to him getting counted out in a cheap finish.

Next we get to meet Skandor Akbar’s newest proteges in Kamala & The Mongol (Gene Lewis) as Bill Mercer interviews them in the woods.

David Von Erich vs Jimmy Garvin - Garvin wins Texas title

Garvin's World Class TV debut is a great example of what the man was capable of. Trash-talking, preening, stooging, but capable of roughing it up when he needed to. Mercer says he dropped David with an illegal brainbuster, but I have seen Garvin use the brainbuster as a finsher in Mid-Atlantic, and that was no Garvin brainbuster right there. It's a minor quibble, though. This match should go forward.

Jimmy Garvin vs Jose Lothario

Good match with Garvin coming up big as usual and a solid performance from Super Sock. Not a nomination, though.

int: Skandor Akbar w/ King Kong Bundy

I love me some goofy Akbar promos, but Akbar as sinister OPEC representative is great stuff, not to mention being as frighteningly relevant today as it was in '83. Definite extra.

King Kong Bundy vs Tollah Yatsu

Fun little match to help set up the Yatsu/Kabuki kendo stick match.

Michael Hayes + Terry Goryd vs Kerry + Kevin Von Erich - Texas tornado match

Another great, out-of-control brawl between four guys who could really deliver one. This is a nomination.

Little Cocoa vs Billy the Kid

Great match. Little Cocoa was a super slick worker and crazy charismatic. He could've been a big star if he was...well...big. I feel really strongly about including at least one midget match on the set. I don't know that we need to include more than one, and I didn't think this was as good as Little Mr. T vs. Little Tokyo, but it is a nice runner-up.

int: Freebirds

int: Kerry, Kevin, + David Von Erich

int: Arman Hussain

I kinda liked these. The Von Erichs were pretty good as the lovable dorky white guys impressed with Iceman's hipness, Hussein kept it short but to the point, and The Freebirds....well, "he's a pretty good boy for a boy" kinda says it all, huh? Don't know if it's necessarily an extra, but it was neat.

Iceman Parsons vs Kabuki

Nothing special.

Jimmy Garvin vs Mike Bond - State Fair Coliseum

Good albeit clipped-up squash bookended by a great angle make this extra material. Jimmy Garvin might be up there with DiBiase as having one of the greatest evil laughs in wrestling history. How did the world miss out on this guy the first time around?

Michael Hayes vs Iceman Parsons - State Fair Coliseum

Nothing much here.

int: Bill Mercer w/ Jimmy Garvin getting "prettied" up

Look at those words. Is there any way this isn't extra material?

int: Bill Mercer w/ Skandar Akbar; he introduces Kamala

He introduces The Mongol, too, for that matter. Impressive and effective stuff, possibly extra material.
