Posted September 14, 200817 yr comment_5434577 - Freebirds video This was fine, but I know their will be better Freebirds videos out there. Kevin Von Erich thing. 1. Terry Gordy vs Kevin Von Erich Kevin's ground work is so underated. His body scissors on Gordy looked so painful. Gordy was no slouch on the ground either. Both men are so good here working holds. The facials on Gordy selling the sleeper was so awesome. It was neat how the wrestlers mixed in the brawling with good matwork, and some old fashioned stiffness. Just a good match that is deserving of a nomination. 2. Iceman Parsons vs Buddy Roberts - captains match I like both men as workers and dug this feud as a kid. Parson's opens up and slaps the taste out of Robert's mouth. This was fun while it lasted, just too damn short. 3. Freebirds vs Iceman Parsons, Kevin, + David Von Erich Kevin showing a ton of fire early. I loved the spot where Kevin gave Gordy a headbutt and got nothing, so he slammed Gordy's head into Parson's head and Gordy sold it huge. All 6 wrestlers looked good here. David's FIP work was great and this might have been the best that I've seem him look so far. The Freebirds built the heat on DVE like the masters that the Birds are. Kevin's work on the apron made David's FIP work even better. I thought the finish was neat. This kicked all sorts of ass and a slam dunk nomination. 4. Kamala vs Johnny Rich Squash int: Bill Mercer w/ David Von Erich on the ranch This was a neat vignette. 5. Michael Hayes vs Kerry Von Erich That was a grade A stooge spot when KVE drops down and Hayes trips over him and takes a front bump.Hayes was tremendous bumping around. I thought KVE did a good job working Hayes arm.Hayes working Kerry's leg was good stuff.Kerry's Tope' bump is boss. The finish kinda blew, but overall this was a good bout and a low end nomination. int: Freebirds 6. Jimmy Garvin vs David Von Erich - Texas title is held up for the second time Living in Austin, Texas I've got to give props to DVE representing with the hook-em horns sign. Both wrestlers are working hard here. The wrestlers were good here in working holds on the mat. Both wrestlers facials were good in this. It made me believe in the holds that were being applied. I liked this but the finish was the shits. I still give this a nomination. David seems to be hitting his stride here, and Garvin has looked strong in Texas. int: Jimmy Garvin int: Bill Marcer w/ Freebirds by pool This was good stuff here and should make it as an extra somewhere. int: Skandar Akbar int: Michael Hayes 7. Freebirds + Jimmy Garvin vs Iceman Parsons, Kerry, Kevin, + David Von Erich - elimination match The rules were you are eliminated by pinfall or over the top rope. The pile on pin was super the 1st time, the 2nd time it was overdone. I thought this was fun at times, but hard to follow. I won't give it a nomination though.
September 20, 200817 yr comment_5434712 This is a great disc overall. American Heavyweight Title: Kevin Von Erich © vs. Terry “Bamm Bamm” Gordy (5/13/83) These two always deliver against each other and this one was no different. Kevin controlled the mat early on and of the Von Erichs he was the best wrestler of the group and it’s funny that each of the main 3 were the best at certain areas with David being the best overall worker and Kerry being the most charismatic. Gordy was a natural fit for Kevin as a worker as he could make Kevin look great then when on offense just beating his ass so he can show his selling prowess. Kevin breaks out some of his patented body scissors spots here and they are great because his legs were so muscular you could believe that he could suck the life out of you. Kevin would then use a sleeper with again the muscular arms making it look more effective and Gordy’s selling of this was great which it was for everything in this match. Gordy would try and piledrive Kevin twice but both times Kevin would counter leading to the finish where Gordy tried a 180 splash off the top rope but missed. Kevin then used one of his own to take out Gordy and win the match. This is an easy nomination. Captain’s Match: Iceman King Parsons vs. Buddy Roberts (5/13/83) Fans pick the captains by applause and these two won because Iceman told the fans to vote that way. Iceman just beats Buddy’s ass here as revenge for cutting some of his hair and Roberts takes the beating like a man. Iceman would use the BUTT BUTT to get the win in almost easy fashion but Buddy would attack him after the match that wouldn’t last long as Iceman comes back and cuts some of Buddy’s hair. Very fun stuff. The Fabulous Freebirds (Terry “Bamm Bamm” Gordy, Michael Hayes, & Buddy Roberts) vs. Iceman King Parsons, David & Kevin Von Erich (5/13/83) Great heat for this match as everyone pretty much hates each other especially the faces on the Birds. I echo shoe’s sentiments on the Gordy headbutt exchange as it was awesome to see him sell Iceman’s blow. David played FIP here and just got his ass kicked selling like crazy by all 3 Birds. Hayes would get into some altercation on the floor with a fan that was a distraction for a few seconds but the match kept going along. David’s partners selling for him to get a tag was great here especially Kevin who made it seem life or death. Iceman would get the hot tag leading to a 6-way brawl with Roberts hitting Iceman flush as he tried to get an O’Connor Roll on Gordy to get the win. This was a damn solid match and another easy nomination. Kamala vs. Johnny Rich (5/27/83) Odd to see Rich here and he gets squashed. Then we get another feature with Mercer & David Von Erich on the ranch and I really loved these skits with this being another extra. Michael Hayes vs. “Modern Day Warrior” Kerry Von Erich (5/27/83) The fans around the ring are just out of their minds for Kerry and the Sportatorium is molten hot. Kerry strutting around like Hayes at the start was hilarious. Hayes was pinballing big time for Kerry here who was looking good here fresh from touring All-Japan. Both men looked pretty good here working on the mat with Kerry on Michael’s right arm and Hayes on Kerry’s right leg. Kerry using the Michael Hayes/Gino Hernandez falling back elbow drop off the top rope was a cool spot for him. Hayes would chunk Kerry to the floor but when he tried to suplex him back in the ring, Kerry fell back on him for the pinfall. Gordy would then attack Kerry after the match but Kevin ran him off. This was lots of fun and a solid nomination. Decision Match for the vacant Texas Heavyweight Title: “Gorgeous” Jimmy Garvin vs. David Von Erich (5/27/83) Another match with lots of heat with everyone involved selling their roles in the match greatly. David really worked over Garvin’s left leg early in the match but Garvin would make a comeback and just started pounding on David with knees to the head. David would make a comeback though throwing bombs before going to work on Garvin’s left arm trying to setup the claw but Garvin would poke him in the eye to counter. David didn’t care though as he kept the pressure on Garvin eventually tieing him up in the ropes and just punching him in the face. David would hit his high kneelift dead in the face of Garvin and got a nearfall as Sunshine put Garvin’s foot on the rope. David would then chase Sunshine into the ring where the bell would ring for a DQ as David got a claw on Garvin but he would carry him to the ropes and threw him over. The finish was a DDQ for some bullshit reason as nothing happened but what can you do. This was another solid match and should move forward. Mercer then interviews the Freebirds poolside and this is a definite extra. Mercer then has an interview with Hayes at ringside and tells him that Kerry’s partner at Reunion Arena will be Bruiser Brody. Elimination Match: The Fabulous Freebirds (Terry “Bamm Bamm” Gordy, Michael Hayes, & Buddy Roberts) & “Gorgeous” Jimmy Garvin vs. Iceman King Parsons, David, Kerry, & Kevin Von Erich (5/27/83) Now this is a match I’ve been wanting to see as they have been building up for this type of match with every main feud involved for months. It’s also great seeing the 4 main Freebirds all together for the first time. This was nothing but a war from the start with the heels getting their ass kicked and Gordy was eliminated first in a super way as Gordy tried to piledrive Iceman but Kevin hit a cross body block on them with everyone else piling on for the fall. The war would continue with Iceman getting eliminated next with Hayes & Buddy on top of him then David would get eliminated after Garvin chunked him over the top rope. Garvin talked shit to David while Kevin laid in wait and dropkicked him over the top rope for the next elimination. Kerry would then soon lock in a sleeper on Roberts before Hayes broke it up. Kevin would then slam Roberts and hit his diving body press for a nearfall. These four men just beat the hell out of each other trying to eliminate whoever they can with some great near attempts like Kevin skinning the cat to avoid being eliminated. Von Erichs would then get double claws going before a double collision leading to stereo dropkicks but the Birds would again fight their way back getting nearfalls on the Von Erichs. Von Erichs would of course make a comeback sending Hayes to the floor on a double dropkick but missed giving one to Roberts and Hayes would take advantage of that getting the pin on Kerry to eliminate him. Kevin is now helpless and the Birds try a double pin after a backbreaker but Kevin presses them off. They try to throw Kevin off the top rope but he skins the cat again then takes them both over himself to win the match. This was a fucking awesome match and maybe my favorite match so far I’ve seen. Surefire nomination and this match was worked more like a Memphis match than World Class. Just great.

Terry Gordy vs Kevin Von Erich There have been so many great matches between these two, and a lot of them will make the set, I'm sure. Personally, I would pass on this one. The work with Kevin's bodyscissors early on was neat, and Gordy's selling was top-notch throughout, but overall thought that these two have put on much stronger performances. int: Bill Mercer w/ David Von Erich on the ranch This seems like it could be a good fit as an extra for the David/Garvin feud. Jimmy Garvin vs David Von Erich - Texas title is held up for the second time I think this match supports my theory that Garvin was the Eddy Guerrero to David's JBL, as really, David is just so much better in this match than he had been just a few months earlier. He really delivers a quality beating on Garvin and eats stuff really well. He really cranked in those hammerlocks early in the match, and when Garvin threw him off the second time, he ate the turnbuckle hard. Garvin usually has one or two matches each feud where he gets fed up with the face who's chasing him and says "fuck this cowardly heel bullshit" and starts beating the fuck out of people. This might have been that match for the David feud. He is going after him early and often. That bit where he has him in the corner and is repeatedly kneedropping him in the head is just brutal. Offhand, I'm thinking this was the best of the David/Garvin matches. Only problem was the finish, which, as mentioned already, was total bullshit and made no sense whatsoever. Still, this is an easy nomination since the body of the match was outstanding. int: Bill Marcer w/ Freebirds by pool Awesome interview that should make an easy extra. int: Michael Hayes "It's a lie...it's a fabrication...just like the whole state of Texas!"
