Disc 8

March 23rd & 30th 1984: Matches also on Classics 162 and 163

1. Nobuhiko Takada/Kantaro Hoshino vs. Isamu Teranishi/Kuniaki Kobayashi - I'll have to check this out on Classics because what was here was a short clip but quite exciting.

2. Kengo Kimura/Seiji Sakaguchi vs. Adrian Adonis/Dick Murdoch - Another solid Murdoch/Adonis tag. You know, it's weird. I feel like I could nominate all of their matches or none of them. They're all pretty good, but they're all similar because it's always the Dick and Adrian show. I think I'll leave this one off because Kimura and Sakaguchi really didn't bring much to it.

3. Fujinami/Fujiwara/Sakaguchi vs. Choshu/Yatsu/Hamaguchi - I enjoyed this a bunch, from the pre-match attack on Inoki to the crowd heat to the wild brawl at the end. Choshu was a phenomenal faction leader, talking trash to his opponents and the crowd, directing his crew in triple teams, supplying a jolt of energy whenever his team needed it. It's not hard to see why he was such a pivotal figure over the whole decade. Anyway, this is a definite nomination for me.

4. Kengo Kimura vs. Iron Mike Sharpe - Squash for Sharpe.

5. Nobuhiko Takada/Norio Honaga vs. Isamu Teranishi/Kuniaki Kobayashi - Teranishi and Kobayashi seemed to enjoy punishing the painfully thin Honaga. I enjoyed them enjoying it. Takada got in plenty of offense, but he cost his team the match when he got distrracted by brawling with Teranishi on the outside and left Honaga alone with Kobayashi for too long. I'll nominate this for the brisk action and decent storytelling, but I won't be surprised if it gets pushed aside in the end.

6. Tatsumi Fujinami/Seiji Sakaguchi vs. Don Muraco/Masked Superstar - This only lasted about six minutes, and Muraco and Superstar did little to distinguish themselves.

7. Animal Hamaguchi/Riki Choshu vs. Kareem/Akeem - Choshu went right after the giant fat men, which was kind of cool. But the gigantic faux African militants brought little to the table other than clubbing blows, eye rakes and a lot of lumbering.
