Posted September 18, 200817 yr comment_5434687 Texas Heavyweight Title: David Von Erich © vs. “Gorgeous” Jimmy Garvin (3/4/83) This is their first match of their feud that would take up a lot of 1983 and Garvin’s first on TV. This had a good dynamic with Garvin as the prettyboy cocky heel against the country boy David and Garvin was great in his role even if he wasn’t a great worker. Garvin was great at talking shit and made it where you wanted to see him get his ass kicked but he would fight back everytime David tried something like the claw. David would then try for his high kneelift but Garvin ducked and he went flying over the top rope to the floor injuring his shoulder. Garvin would then make sure David came back in the ring and hit a brainbuster for the win. Garvin becomes a huge name on this and with his character flourished here with this feud being the catalyst. I think this deserves to be on the block for consideration as it was a solid match.

Garvin's stalling is entertaining. I liked David grinding that standing headlock. I dug how Garvin suckered David into the corner for the head into his stomach. It was cool how Garvin was trash talking while he had DVE in the headlock/modified sleeper. Garvin's showing his utter fear from the claw was well executed. I thought this was a well worked match that gave Garvin a lot of steam for this feud. I'm on the fence for a nomination. I'll come back and revisit it at another time.
November 7, 200915 yr comment_5445697 Garvin's World Class TV debut is a great example of what the man was capable of. Trash-talking, preening, stooging, but capable of roughing it up when he needed to. Mercer says he dropped David with an illegal brainbuster, but I have seen Garvin use the brainbuster as a finsher in Mid-Atlantic, and that was no Garvin brainbuster right there. It's a minor quibble, though. This match should go forward. [Romdam 16]

Jimmy gets sleeper happy and David’s attempt to stay awake are sort of funny. The spill takes outside looked pretty nasty and stood out in a match that didn’t have many standout moments. Jimmy drops him with the brainbuster for the clean win. Kind of torn on this. Some memorable spots at the end but the beginning and middle were just there. It didn’t have anything as cool as Kevin working over Hayes’ stomach either. I Know I nominated another one of their fights that I loved much more. I can live with that.
