Posted September 22, 200817 yr comment_5434774 Lumberjack Match: “Modern Day Warrior” Kerry Von Erich vs. Terry “Bamm Bamm” Gordy (7/1/83) This was a good match but it wasn’t as good as the match earlier on this disc although the lumberjack stip added a different element and this was more of a basic wrestling match. There was some great crowd heat here to show how hot this territory was at this time. Both men really bumped hard for each other here and this matchup has become one of the best in the area over the last month. As the match would go on it got better because both men knew how to work a match like this to keep the crowd hot especially during Gordy’s bearhug spot as both men’s facials and body language had the crowd eating out of their hands. Both men would go to the floor with Brody beating on Gordy and Garvin getting shots in on Kerry but the action would go back to the ring with Gordy hitting a backdrop suplex and a backbreaker for nearfalls. Gordy would then pick Kerry up for a slam in the corner letting Brody trip him up so Kerry could get an inside cradle for the win. The lumberjacks would brawl in the ring after the match as the crowd goes crazy. Like I said this wasn’t as good as the brass knuckles match but still very solid and a nomination.
September 22, 200817 yr comment_5434777 What I wrote about this match: I considered this as a low-end nomination, but decided against it, because it's not like there aren't going to be a million other matches with these two paired against each other that will be just as good or better. Hell, there already was one earlier on this very DVD. Liked cocky Gordy early with his armdrags and celebratory prancing, but then the middle of the match is built around a bearhug. I'm not anti-bearhug, Kerry was pretty good selling it, and after escaping one, Gordy just came charging out of the corner to grab another, which was kinda cool. But you spend that much time in a row working the bearhug, it's gonna drag down the match. It's Kerry and Gordy. You want to see them slugging it out, not hugging it out. There was plenty of clubberin' when not in the bearhug, and I enjoyed this match a lot more than it probably sounds like, but it probably wasn't nomination good. I'm not really opposed to this making the set. I imagine if it did, there would probably be a bunch of matches I had lower. Still, can only really give it mild support. [WCCW/St. Louis 6-26-83]
September 28, 200817 yr comment_5434879 6. Kerry Von Erich vs Terry Gordy - lumberjack match This is another good bout between the 2. The gimmick wasn't used much, though it was used in the finish. I'm kinda on the fence on this one. As of now I'm going to pass on it. I thought it was good wrestling, but this matchup has resulted in better bouts.
