Posted September 24, 200817 yr comment_5434844 Gentleman Chris Adams vs. Terry “Bamm Bamm” Gordy (7/15/83) This is Adams’ first TV match against a Freebird. The match started out slow with Adams having Gordy in a headlock for a good amount of time on the mat before a good exchange ending with Adams hitting a senton right on Gordy’s ribs followed up by a slam that Gordy sold like death and the Superkick that Gordy did a complete flop for landing on his head with his feet on the ropes. Adams then covered Gordy but he got his feet on the ropes before hitting a thrust to the throat. Gordy then went on offense just pounding on him before hitting him with a kneedrop after lowering his kneepad right on the head but would try it again and missed. Adams then started kicking at Gordy’s legs before hitting with two flush Superkicks that the last one looked awesome. Gordy was laid out on the mat so Adams went up top for a senton bomb but Gordy rolled away leaving Adams to hit the mat. Gordy then tried to slam Adams but countered into a GERMAN SUPLEX HOLDAH to get the huge upset win. Gordy would get pissed and attacked Adams after the match hitting a Samoan Drop before slapping him in the face. This started out slow but goddamn what a finish and this is a solid nomination. Bruiser Brody vs. Buddy Roberts (7/15/83) Hayes is with Roberts to protect him as Iceman has put a $500 bounty on the headgear. Brody just beats the piss out of Roberts as he wants the headgear so Hayes pulls Roberts out to help keep him adjusted. Brody gets pissed at Hayes so he chases after him letting Roberts load up the headgear and when Brody would come back in the ring he got headbutted twice. Brody would recover and went for the headgear again and got the wig out of the gear. Hayes then took off his shirt and put it over Buddy’s head as they left the ring and Brody won the bounty. Gentleman Chris Adams & Iceman King Parsons vs. Terry “Bamm Bamm” Gordy & The Mongol (Gene Lewis) (7/15/83) This match is all about Adams & Gordy from the previous show as Adams wants revenge from his beatdown so he is all over the place even Superkicking Mongol as he stands on the apron. Gordy would get popped by Iceman before turning around and getting creamed with a Superkick of his own that he would sell like he was drunk rambling all over the ring. Adams would miss a dropkick though as Gordy held the ropes letting the Mongol come in to slow the match down. Adams didn’t last long though as he tagged in Iceman who would come in hot but would soon get worked over by the heels. Iceman did a decent job as FIP before getting the tag to Adams who would fight off both heels. Adams then hit another Superkick on Gordy in the corner but would get caught in the running lights by a knee after trying to hit him again. Gordy would then throw Adams to the floor and started working him over after he got back in the ring by keying on his back before tagging in Mongol who would continue the pressure. Adams would take it from both men before finally getting the hot tag to Parsons and Adams was great as the FIP here with the fans really into it. Iceman got in there and would hit the Butt Butt on Mongol who tagged Gordy in as he fell back without Iceman knowing it. Gordy then hit Iceman with a kneedrop to the back of the head and pinned him. This was really solid but the finish came out of nowhere so it takes it down a notch. Nomination nonetheless. Kamala vs. Rock Riddle (7/15/83) Squash that would feature Brody brawling with Kamala after the match. Kevin Von Erich vs. “Gorgeous” Jimmy Garvin (7/15/83) The crowd is nuts for Kevin who is wearing a cutoff football jersey which was a great look in 1983. Kevin hit a beautiful flying headscissors early followed up with a dropkick sending Garvin to the floor. The match would then go back and forth with both men throwing punches before Kevin would hit Garvin with a shot taking him down. Sunshine would get on the apron distracting David Manning after throwing something in the ring for Garvin to use but Kevin ducked and he pounded on Garvin before hitting his diving body press for the win. Very short match but a lot of fun. David, Kerry, & Kevin Von Erich vs. “Gorgeous” Jimmy Garvin, Michael Hayes, & Buddy Roberts (7/29/83) Buddy has a new wig on now with braids and it’s hilarious. Garvin is also wearing the American title which he won from Kevin the previous Monday in Fort Worth. Von Erichs bring out their six-man trophy showcasing it to the fans who are nuts for them. Lots of bumping early on by the heels especially Roberts who eats a triple dropkick but he would use his headgear to turn the tide allowing Kevin to get worked over but he would soon get the tag to Kerry. Kerry would get offense early but soon became the FIP and took a lot of punishment from the heels who were making quick tags and this was around the time that Garvin started palling around with the Birds getting chemistry. Garvin would miss a kneedrop letting Kerry get the tag to David who starts working over Garvin but would miss his high kneelift into the corner allowing Hayes to tag in and the heels would start working David over. Roberts would take a high kneelift by David as he tried to use a headbutt with the headgear and both would get tags to Garvin & Kevin respectively. Of course this would break down into a 6-way brawl with David going for the headgear as Garvin hit Kerry with a backdrop suplex. Kevin would then hit his reverse cross body block off the top rope on Garvin to get the win. Yet another solid match and a nomination. Iceman King Parsons vs. Buddy Roberts (7/29/83) Iceman is all about going after the headgear here just punching him repeatedly trying to get it off and Roberts doing what he can to survive. Iceman pounded and pounded him but Roberts would toss Iceman to the floor to gain the advantage and he put it on him. Iceman would fight back but Roberts cut him off although Iceman would quickly hook an inside cradle to get the win. This was fun but not as good as their other matches. They then show clips of Kevin losing the American title to Garvin in Fort Worth on 7/25. “Gorgeous” Jimmy Garvin vs. Mike Reed (8/12/83) Garvin squashes Reed then Kevin comes out to confront him and steals the belt after Garvin tried to attack him. Garvin tires to get it back but gets run out. “Modern Day Warrior” Kerry Von Erich vs. Buddy Roberts (8/12/83) Fucking sweet as Buddy comes out to Georgia On My Mind by Willie Nelson. This was a good little match that told a good story in that anytime Buddy worked against a Von Erich, the claw was basically meaningless so it forced them to change their gameplan. Kerry would get the win with an O’Connor Roll and then get jumped by Hayes after the match who started whipping him with a leather strap before Kerry made his own comeback. Bruiser Brody vs. Boris Zuhkov (8/12/83) Brody wins fairly easily. Then we get clips of Kevin’s debut match against Paul Perschmann aka “Playboy” Buddy Rose from 1977. Kevin Von Erich vs. Terry “Bamm Bamm” Gordy (10/21/83) Mercer starts pimping Mike Von Erich on commentary here and that isn’t a good thing. Kevin works his bodyscissors magic early in the match looking really good trying to get pinfalls out of it and countering Gordy everytime he tries to counter including one great time when Gordy eventually got out and tried his best to hit Kevin with a diving elbow but Kevin kept moving on his back so Gordy would get off balanced and Kevin locked him up again with his legs. It would take Gordy a while before getting on offense and when he did he just took it to Kevin hitting a beautiful swinging neckbreaker for a nearfall. Gordy then worked Kevin over good before Kevin would counter a suplex into an O’Connor Roll that Gordy would cutback using the tights to win. Bronko Lubich shows up and tells David Manning what happened and they would reverse the decision. Gordy would then attack Kevin after the match trying to use the Oriental Spike but Kevin would move and then tried to break his thumb but Gordy ducked out. This was another damn good match between the big brothers and this is a nomination.
October 3, 200817 yr comment_5434996 Terry Gordy vs Chris Adams These are the 2 best workers in wccw so the pressure is on for a great match. Both wrestlers in the early going make good use of the mirror sequences. I fouund the headlock spots interesting and well worked. Both wrestlers were great at taking the crowd up and down throughout the match. I would have liked this to have gone longer, but I feel this is a solid nomination. 2. Bruiser Brody vs Buddy Roberts Roberts just bumped all over for Bruiser. It's so hard to get heat on Brody. This had some fun moments, but overall it's just a match. int: Bruiser Brody int: Skandar Akbar 3. Iceman Parsons + Chris Adams vs The Mongol + Terry Gordy What I've seen of the Adams/Parsons team so far has been strong. The faces look tremendous right off the bat. Adam's is a superkicking machine here. Gordy was great taking it to Adams and Parsons, but his bumps were great at making them look good. The crowd was great at rooting for the faces. I liked how we got both faces getting the chance to be FIP. Parsons was good, but Adams was gold. The heels killing Adams back was tremendous with Adam's facials making that just more great. The super work here just got the fans that more into this killer bout. The pop on the hot tag was deafening. Overall, this was tremendous even with the sloppy finish and a nomination. 4. Kamala vs Rock Riddle squash. 5. Kevin Von Erich vs Jimmy Garvin Garvin has been a real revelation so far. This was good, but too short for a nomination for me. int: Michael Hayes + Buddy Roberts 6. Kevin, Kerry, + David Von Erich vs Michael Hayes, Buddy Roberts, + Jimmy Garvin Roberts is superb working the bald gimmick. This is another good bout and feels like a low end nomination. It kinda felt underwhelming considering who was involved. It hurts not having Gordy to bring his big time offense and great bumping skills. Garvin is good, but he is nothing like Gordy as a worker. int: Michael Hayes + Buddy Roberts 7. Iceman Parsons vs Buddy Roberts The pulling the wig off spots were great. This had its moments, but it seemed to drag in spots. I've seen better between the 2. int: Kevin Von Erich; footage is shown of Jimmy Garvin beating Kevin for Americas title in Ft Worth 8. Jimmy Garvin vs Mike Reed Squash 9. Kerry Von Erich vs Buddy Roberts This was a lot of fun with Roberts making KVE look like a million bucks. I dug Roberts working over KVE neck. This was just good solid stuff. 10. Bruiser Brody vs Boris Zhukov A nothing match. 11. Kevin Von Erich vs Paul Pershman - Kevin's debut This is from 1977. 12. Kevin Von Erich vs Terry Gordy Watching Kevin ground Gordy was swank. The head clap was nasty. Awesome spot where Gordy falls back down into the scissors was tremendous. Gordy getting the advantage and grounding Kevin was fun. The Oriental Spike adds a new wrinkle to this feud. I dug the piece of business after the match where Kevin attempts to break Bam Bam's thumb. Solid stuff overall, and a nomination.
November 25, 200915 yr comment_5446009 Gentleman Chris Adams & Iceman King Parsons vs. Terry “Bamm Bamm” Gordy & The Mongol (Gene Lewis) (7/15/83) Adams and Gordy usually don't match up well for some reason, but this was an exception. I wasn't as high on this as you guys, though. Mongol really didn't look too good, and I felt like this ran too long for what they were going for, which made the sudden finish even more jarring. Not a bad match at all, but I've seen better stuff, and this felt underwhelming. “Modern Day Warrior” Kerry Von Erich vs. Buddy Roberts (8/12/83) I think this is the only time I've seen these two in a singles match, and it's a really good one. Kerry is super fired up here, out for revenge after Buddy hit him with the loaded headgear in an earlier match. Buddy is great being evasive at first, but he takes over later in a big way, including dropping a nasty headbutt off of the top rope to the back of Kerry's head. Both guys get in some nasty shots on one another, and this one kept my interest throughout. I'm gonna throw it up on the block.
