Buddy Roberts vs. Iceman King Parsons

Fun as usual, but not the best match in their series.

Michael Hayes vs. Kerry Von Erich (14:40)

Not a lot of this stands out in my mind. This disc had a lot of matches I was close to nominating but opted not to. I can't recall if this was one of those, but I'm inclined to think if it was, I'd remember it better.

The Von Erichs vs. The Freebirds (Six Man Tag) (8-12-83) (15:14)

Pretty good, but these two teams had beter matches than this against each other.

Buddy Roberts vs. Kerry Von Erich (10:40)

I'm drawing a blank. I need to be more on the ball about doing these.

Michael Hayes & Buddy Roberts vs. Iceman King Parsons & Kerry Von Erich (15:00)

Fun match that ends with Parsons wig-maring Roberts and pulling his headgear and wig off in the process, sending the heels scrambling to the back.

Jimmy Garvin vs. Chris Adams

Fun match that came real close to getting a nomination. Garvin is such a great douchebag. Him yelling "I'm the champion!" while Adams had him grounded with a headlock was awesome. Match goes to a time limit draw, and Garvin, who had promised to defend the American Title every week on TV, suddenly decides he doesn't want to do that anymore.

Jimmy Garvin vs. Iceman King Parsons

Another really fun match.

Bruiser Brody vs. Terry Gordy (6:53)

This was pretty cool while it lasted. World Class Brody didn't seem to have a problem with selling, and Gordy just mauls him here. Features the debut of the Oriental Spike.

Kerry Von Erich vs. Michael Hayes (Parsons & Roberts Handcuffed Outside) (10:37)

Good, but I'm more interested in what Parsons and Roberts are doing on the outside than what's happening in the ring.

Bruiser Brody vs. Kimala

Another fun match between these two.

Jimmy Garvin vs. Kevin Von Erich

I'm not sure these two are capable of having a bad match against each other, but this didn't really stand out from the pack.

Freebirds Interview w/ Jimmy Garvin

Couldn't possibly have been bad.

Iceman King Parsons vs. Buddy Roberts (7/29/83)

Iceman is all about going after the headgear here just punching him repeatedly trying to get it off and Roberts doing what he can to survive. Iceman pounded and pounded him but Roberts would toss Iceman to the floor to gain the advantage and he put it on him. Iceman would fight back but Roberts cut him off although Iceman would quickly hook an inside cradle to get the win. This was fun but not as good as their other matches.

"Modern Day Warrior" Kerry Von Erich vs. Michael Hayes (7/29/83)

Kerry tries to ground Hayes on the mat early but Hayes is so greasy, Kerry can't hold him down which was funny. Hayes does a good job of stooging around here getting some great heat. Hayes would soon control the action with a side headlock that slowed the pace down which was to his favor but Kerry would regain control with hip tosses and an armbar. Hayes would regain control but this time he went with the dirty heel offense leading up to a reverse chinlock. Kerry would eventually lock on the iron claw but Hayes threw him to the floor and followed up with an elbow drop off the apron before Kerry would get back in the ring where Hayes went back to the reverse chinlock. Kerry would then make a fiery comeback which would feature a cross body block by Kerry that would get reversed by Hayes who was in the ropes as Bronko Lubich counted and saw the feet in the ropes. Hayes would celebrate thinking he had the pin but Kerry would schoolboy him quickly to get the win. Hayes would attack Kerry after the match and dropped him with a piledriver before spitting on him as he exited. This wasn't as good as their other matches I've seen but still very fun although not a nomination.

World Class Six-Man Tag Titles: David, Kerry, & Kevin Von Erich © vs. The Fabulous Freebirds (Terry “Bamm Bamm” Gordy, Michael Hayes, & Buddy Roberts) (8/12/83)

What a fucking great entrance for the Birds with confederate soldiers waving the stars and bars as Willie Nelson’s version of Georgia On My Mind blares over the speakers as the fans boo very loudly then the Von Erichs come out to a raucus ovation as usual. Kevin’s promo before the match explaining the feud was too great. Birds bump their ass off to start the match especially Buddy and the Von Erichs look great on offense with tremendous crowd heat. David gets eventually caught by the Birds and takes a real pounding especially from Gordy who was throwing bombs before making a comeback tagging in Kevin who gets some offense in before he gets caught by the Birds. The action would soon break down into a brawl with a very hot finish as Roberts came in with a loaded headbutt to KO Kerry so Hayes could pin him. This was a fantastic match and a definite nomination.

“Modern Day Warrior” Kerry Von Erich vs. Buddy Roberts (8/12/83)

Fucking sweet as Buddy comes out to Georgia On My Mind by Willie Nelson. This was a good little match that told a good story in that anytime Buddy worked against a Von Erich, the claw was basically meaningless so it forced them to change their gameplan. Kerry would get the win with an O’Connor Roll and then get jumped by Hayes after the match who started whipping him with a leather strap before Kerry made his own comeback. Good match yes but not quite a nomination.

Iceman King Parsons & "Modern Day Warrior" Kerry Von Erich vs. The Fabulous Freebirds (Michael Hayes & Buddy Roberts) (8/26/83)

Birds are all in white here which is the first time I've seen them in all white since the Georgia days. For some reason, Kerry is working barefoot here and I don't think Bill Mercer explained why this happened. Birds stooge and bump hard early on for both faces and this was tremendous as Hayes pinballed around before getting both knees up in the corner as Iceman tried a running splash. Iceman got the heat and both Birds really worked over him good especially Hayes who hit a wicked swinging neckbreaker for a nearfall. Iceman would finally get the hot tag to Kerry who ran wild before the 4 way brawl started with Iceman going for the headgear and pulling it off his head on a snapmare revealing a bald Buddy and the Birds get counted out as they run to the back. This was a damn fun match with Hayes really working hard here and we get the Buddy headgear payoff and this is an easy nomination to me.

American Heavyweight Title: "Gorgeous" Jimmy Garvin © vs. "Gentleman" Chris Adams (8/26/83)

This is the first TV match between these two and Adams' biggest match to date as he was just a midcarder at this point. Adams starts out with some hiptosses sending Garvin running to the floor before bringing him back in for some bodyslams leading to a side headlock. Sunshine is perplexed with Garvin not knowing what the fuck is happening. Adams maintains the side headlock through a couple of breaks from Garvin getting away after taking him back down. The fans are solidly behind Chris here as Garvin breaks free and starts kicking Adams in the head. Garvin was ruthless here hitting a quasi brainbuster for a nearfall then throwing him to the floor as he yells out "I'm a champion" to the delight of Sunshine. Adams would fight his way back to the ring hitting a diving cross body block from the apron for a nearfall before attempting another one with Garvin dropping him throat first on the top rope. Marc Lowrance starts counting down the minutes of this 10 minute match so it's pretty obvious where they are going here as Adams starts his comeback leading up to a Superkick knocking Garvin to the floor. Adams would then suplex him back in for a neafall before keeping up the offense as Garvin tries to kill time when he would eat another Superkick that sent Garvin too close to the ropes for a pin. Adams kept trying for the pinfall but time would of course run out letting Garvin keep the title. Adams was pissed and threatened to spank Sunshine but discretion was the better part of valor and he left the ring. This was simply fantastic and a definite nomination as Adams was made as a top guy in 10 simple minutes. Garvin said after the match that he would not defend the American title on TV anymore.

Iceman King Parsons vs. "Gorgeous" Jimmy Garvin (9/9/83)

This is non-title of course after the Adams match. Pretty basic stuff to start with Iceman being in control but the Garvin control section started when Iceman hit his head on the canvas after dropping an elbow on Garvin which was interesting since Iceman was known for his hard head. Iceman would recover very quickly before Garvin would kick him in the head again as he was running into the corner but as he went for a suplex, Iceman countered into an inside cradle for the win. Short match but fun and got Iceman over as a top guy and put it in everyone's mind that Garvin was going to lose his title soon.

Bruiser Brody vs. Terry "Bamm Bamm" Gordy (9/9/83)

This is a brawl at the bell of course and Gordy's first match back at the Sportatorium since returning from All-Japan and he comes back more vicious than ever. Mercer tells the story that Gordy learned at the foot of "Sing Fu" who taught Toru Tanaka hence his enhanced viciousness and his new move the Oriental Spike. Brody would fight back of course throwing bombs but Gordy was more aggressive although some big boots to the head changed that quickly. Brody would slam Gordy with ease before missing the King Kong Kneedrop allowing Gordy to regain control but not for long as Brody would catch him with a cross body block to win. Gordy would attack Brody after the match using the Oriental Spike to get the move over. This was really fun and I like this more as an extra than a nomination.

"Modern Day Warrior" Kerry Von Erich vs. Michael Hayes (8/26/83)

Iceman & Buddy are handcuffed to each other here as Iceman is now wearing the headgear he took from Buddy. Kerry is again working barefoot and this match did seem like a backdrop to what was going on between the men on the floor as the fans kept chanting baldy at Roberts. The work in the ring was good of course but wasn't nothing special since the focus was more on the floor.

Bruiser Brody vs. Kamala (8/15/83)

They use 2 referees here as they knew this would be uncontrollable and it was from the bell as both men just pounded the shit out of each other as usual. Kamala would throw David Manning around like a ragdoll and choked Bronko Lubich before Brody attacked him as Manning called for the DQ. The brawl continued of course as the fans went nuts and the locker room cleared before Brody would dropkick him to the floor. Brody then got on the mic and didn't want to win that way but Kamala wouldn't come back.

Kevin Von Erich vs. "Gorgeous" Jimmy Garvin (8/22/83)

This is a non-title match and Kevin is like a rabid dog attacking Garvin on the floor as he walks to the ring beating his ass while still in his jacket and shorts. Funny watching Garvin get his ass kicked while having his shorts around his ankles before Kevin ripped them off in a rage. Garvin would eventually fight back after Kevin missed a cross body block and would get control even with Kevin trying to fight back. Sunshine would soon toss in her shoe to Garvin but Kevin would get an O'Connor Roll on Garvin to win. This didn't even go 4 minutes.

Then we get a great promo by Hayes, Roberts, & Garvin about their current feuds.
