Posted September 29, 200817 yr comment_5434932 This starts with a really good Kevin Von Erich video. Junkyard Dog vs. Kamala (10/21/83) JYD is in from Mid-South to feud with Devastation Inc. and Kamala specifically. The fans were really into this but it wasn’t a really good match. JYD was tripped by Skandor Akbar as he was trying to come after Kamala leading to JYD pulling Akbar in the ring ending the match in a no contest. The Fabulous Freebirds (Terry “Bamm Bamm” Gordy & Michael Hayes) vs. “Gentleman” Chris Adams & Johnny Mantell (10/21/83) Gordy got Mantell in the Oriental Spike early as Adams chased Hayes around and Mantell was injured falling to the floor. Freebirds want to win the match by forfeit but Adams wants to continue with the fans chanting JYD’s name. Adams must go alone though so it’s a handicap match that Adams holds his own in for a while until being outgunned. Kevin Von Erich then comes out in street clothes wanting to be the new partner and he would get the tag cleaning house on the Birds and getting a sunset flip on Hayes to get the win. Very fun stuff. Mercer then interviews Fritz about the upcoming LLT match with Kerry & Hayes at Reunion on 11/24/83. They show the angle where Kerry gave his ring jacket to Mike since he is starting soon. Extra material. Then we get highlights of David Von Erich vs. Kamala from Fort Worth. Kerry then cuts a promo in front of a steel cage where he vows to run Hayes out of town. Hayes then does likewise wearing an old school Atlanta Braves hat. Mercer then interviews Jimmy Garvin at ringside with Precious. Then we get clips of Adams/Mantell vs. Garvin/Roberts with Sunshine stripping Precious and attacking Garvin. Next is a rare and very sad sight of all the Von Erich brothers sans Chris standing at ringside at Reunion Arena talking about Mike’s debut match that night against Skandor Akbar. Extra material. Mike Von Erich vs. Skandor Akbar (11/24/83) They introduce the legendary Sam Muchnick before the match. The fans were hot for Mike but this wasn’t good. American Tag Titles: The Super Destroyers (Wild Bill & Scott Irwin) vs. Junkyard Dog & Iceman King Parsons (11/24/83) Iceman looked good to start the match keeping the pressure on the D’s before tagging in the JYD who continues the dominance. JYD would use his patented headbutts on both of the D’s but missed a running splash into the corner starting a brief D’s control section. JYD would get the tag to Iceman though fairly quickly and he hit the Butt Butt on Super D #1 before #2 broke it up. This would end up in a 4-way brawl before Iceman would get posted on the floor causing him to juice and starting another control section. JYD would get the tag after Iceman fell into the corner and started beating on both D’s as Iceman crawls to the floor and is helped out of the area. JYD is left alone and puts up a good fight but would get outmanned until Iceman shows back up all taped up cleaning house on the D’s. The fans go nuts but the match ends in a DQ in favor of the champs. Iceman then takes a big fireball to the face by Akbar starting a feud that would go on for well over a year. The finish stunk but this was some really fun stuff and I’m throwing it on the block. Kevin Von Erich vs. Terry “Bamm Bamm” Gordy (11/24/83) The battle of the big brothers is on again and these two could have a solid match in their sleep as they are so natural together. The heat is molten here as every time Kevin was in trouble the fans were going apeshit even during a test of strength. Kevin would focus on Gordy’s left thumb to set up the claw but Gordy would counter it until Kevin would get away catching Gordy with a cross body block for a nearfall. Gordy would come back though going for the Spike but Kevin rolled away and hooked the claw on Gordy but Gordy swung him over the top rope but not for a DQ. Gordy would then suplex Kevin back in the ring before climbing up top where he would miss a diving splash that Kevin would follow with his diving body press that Gordy would counter with his knees up. Kevin would come back though hitting his 180 splash off the top rope and gets the win then attacks Roberts who ran out after the match. Gordy takes off Buddy’s boot and pounded him with it before David & Kerry made the save. This was a good match but one of the lesser ones although it still gets a nomination consideration from me. David Von Erich vs. Kamala (11/24/83) They are setting David up for his run to the NWA title and they put him against the monster Kamala to further his push. This was nothing pretty as it was a straight up brawl with Kamala bloodying David and getting off on tasting his blood. David would make his comeback though getting the claw on Kamala but Friday would interfere so David put the claw on him on the apron then Akbar would attack David and got the claw for his pleasure as well with the match ending in a DQ. David then gets attacked after the match until Kerry makes the save with him slamming Kamala. Fun stuff but not a nomination. American Heavyweight Title: “Gorgeous” Jimmy Garvin © vs. “Gentleman” Chris Adams (11/24/83) This is the culmination of a month long feud that had the focus go from Adams to Sunshine as she aligned with Adams giving him all of Garvin’s tapes. This was a really good back and forth match with lots of heat and both men looking good especially Adams. Adams hit Garvin flush with a Superkick sending him to the floor but as he suplexed him back in the ring, Precious tripped him up getting a nearfall for Garvin. Garvin then tried to go on the attack but Sunshine would rake his eyes letting Adams pin Garvin to win the title. There was more brawling after the match with the highlight being Sunshine slapping David Manning stiff. I think this should go on the block but I was overly excited. Skandor Akbar does a sitdown with Bill Mercer with the Super D’s flanking him talking about the Iceman Parsons situation. Garvin & Precious then cut a promo demanding revenge on Adams. Kevin Von Erich vs. Buddy Roberts (12/9/83) Roberts bumps all over the ring for Kevin selling greatly but would get some offense in although not enough as Kevin used a wacky headscissors turnover for the victory. Fun but not a nomination.
October 12, 200816 yr comment_5435146 1. Kamala vs Junkyard Dog The crowd is hot for this one. The work wasn't bad here but not a nomination. 2. Michael Hayes + Terry Gordy vs Chris Adams + Johnny Mantell Again the crowd is hot for this one. The Mantell angle got the Birds even more heat. This was fun, but not a nomination. int: Terry Gordy int: Fritz Von Erich; footage is shown of Kerry giving Mike Von Erich his ring jacket and Michael Hayes coming in and rips it up - Ft Worth This is a possible extra. - highlights David Von Erich vs Kamala - Ft Worth - Kerry Von Erich promo - Michael Hayes promo int: Jimmy garvin int: Kevin, Kerry, David, + Mike Von Erich - Reunion Arena Another possible extra. 3. Mike Von Erich vs Skandar Akbar - Reunion Arena The crowd was so desperate for Mike to be a star. The match was bad, the crowd made this. int: Skandar Akbar - Reunion Arena 4. Iceman Parsons + Junkyard Dog vs Super Destroyers - Reunion Arena Man Parson's has a big time drop kick. Parson's blew Dog off the map as a worker in this match. I thought the Super Destroyers looked solid in their role. I thought this was fine wrestling but it falls short as a nomination for me. Parsons looked great here. 5. Kevin Von Erich vs Terry Gordy - Reunion Arena These men have hooked up a bunch of times. I don't think they can have a bad match with one another. The arm drag spots were great here. Kevin was great at working over Gordy's arm. Gordy is great at stooging. He does it without killing his big man cred. This is another killer bout between the 2 and a nomination. The aftermath was awesome. 6. David Von Erich vs Kamala - Reunion Arena I liked how Kamala feared the claw. So far this is a total blast. I dug how Kamala worked over David's cut. Overall, I dug this and thought it deserves a nomination. int: Jimmy Garvin - Reunion Arena 7. Jimmy Garvin vs Chris Adams - Reunion Arena Adam's cape is boss. This is a repeat from Romdam #1 int: Skandar Akbar int: Jimmy Garvin 8. Kevin Von Erich vs Buddy Roberts This was fun, but not a nomination.
