Chris Adams Interview ....and challenges Garvin to a title match. Michael Hayes vs. Jose Lothario This was pretty bad. Hayes does his stooging for Lothario's tepid punches, and it just makes them look even worse. Kevin Von Erich vs. Terry Gordy (16:05) We've already got a million matches between these two nominated, which shouldn't really come as a surprise, as they were probably the two best workers in World Class at the time, and they got paired up with each other a lot. For reference's sake, this one ends with Gordy pinning Kevin after reversing an O'Connor roll and grabbing the tights, but Bronko Lubich seeing this and telling David Manning, leading to Manning reversing the decision. Not the best match I've seen between the two, but still fantastic and worthy of a nomination. Jimmy Garvin leaves Sunshine Sunshine Interview Jimmy Garvin Interview These all have to be included as extras. Fritz Von Erich Interview w/ Hayes attacking Mike (8:57) This is worthy of inclusion as well, I think. Taken in the context of not yet knowing Mike was a useless sack of shit, he comes off as a modest, likable kid, who gets cruelly victimized by Hayes, causing him to snap and deliver the mildest beatdown ever, before Kerry mercifully comes out to finish the job and keep Mike from further exposing himself. Kerry & kevin Von Erich vs. Michael Hayes & Terry Gordy (Country Whipping Match) (12:00) Country whipping match + classic southern tag team formula = genius! Finish was kinda anticlimactic given the nature of the match, but these guys just went at each other non-stop, so can't complain too much. When Kerry gets the hot tag and comes in dual-wielding his team's straps, you know you're watching an awesome match. Easy nomination. Super Destroyer vs. Iceman King Parsons This was pretty fun. I actually liked it better than the tag match it built up to. Jimmy Garvin & Buddy Roberts vs. Chris Adams & Johnny Mantel This was also fun. Kinda slow at first, but once Mantel becomes face in peril, things kick into high gear. Crowd constantly chants "We want Sunshine!", which at first leads to Precious getting up on the apron and posing for them, and Jimmy not understanding why they're so upset (this was before they were actually calling her "Precious", Jimmy cut a promo before the match explaining that this woman was "the real Sunshine"). Sunshine I hits the ring just as the faces are making their comeback, rips off Sunshine II's dress, sprays Jimmy in the eyes with the aerosol can, and then starts to claw his eyes out before officials pull her off of him. Junkyard Dog & Iceman King Parsons vs. Super Destroyers I can't really get behind this one. I enjoyed the face team. Parsons is always fun, and JYD had not entered the "fat, coked up, and not giving a shit" phase of his career yet. But the Super Destroyers were about as bland as their act suggests. The Parsons/JYD team probably could have had this match with any number of vanilla early 80's tag teams. Finish was really dumb, too, even by the standards of the 80's. The post-match torching of the Iceman was pretty cool, though. Music Video w. Jimmy Garvin & Sunshine ("She Works Hard for the Money") Worth including as an extra, although it's interesting to think that most of the hardships inflicted upon poor, innocent Sunshine in this video were done so by the Von Erichs. Although Bill Mercer actually does some very good work before the video, setting it up in such a way as to suggest "yeah, we all thought it was really funny when David made Sunshine wash his dog and drag around giant bales of hay on his ranch, but she did that kind of stuff because she really cared about Jimmy Garvin, and now that he's dumped her, maybe it's not so funny after all". Music Video w. Iceman King Parsons ("Feels Good To Me") Music Video w. Kerry Vvon Erich ("Eye of the Tiger") (2:38)
November 26, 200915 yr comment_5446023 The Avenger vs. “Gorgeous” Jimmy Garvin (10/21/83) The story here was that Adams couldn’t get a shot so he had to get a gimmick to beat Garvin to trick him. Garvin doesn’t take the match seriously and he gets his ass kicked ending with a Superkick with Avenger revealing himself as Chris Adams. Adams then cuts a great promo in the locker room. This is a slam dunk extra. Michael Hayes vs. Jose Lothario (10/21/83) Black Gordman jumps in the ring before the match and cuts a promo on Jose in Spanish then attacks him before leaving the ring with Hayes getting the easy pickings but Jose would make a comeback that would soon get cut off and he would get the pin. Kevin Von Erich vs. Terry “Bamm Bamm” Gordy (10/21/83) Mercer starts pimping Mike Von Erich on commentary here and that isn’t a good thing. Kevin works his bodyscissors magic early in the match looking really good trying to get pinfalls out of it and countering Gordy everytime he tries to counter including one great time when Gordy eventually got out and tried his best to hit Kevin with a diving elbow but Kevin kept moving on his back so Gordy would get off balanced and Kevin locked him up again with his legs. It would take Gordy a while before getting on offense and when he did he just took it to Kevin hitting a beautiful swinging neckbreaker for a nearfall. Gordy then worked Kevin over good before Kevin would counter a suplex into an O’Connor Roll that Gordy would cutback using the tights to win. Bronko Lubich shows up and tells David Manning what happened and they would reverse the decision. Gordy would then attack Kevin after the match trying to use the Oriental Spike but Kevin would move and then tried to break his thumb but Gordy ducked out. This was another damn good match between the big brothers and this is a nomination. Then we get Garvin firing Sunshine which I've already seen. Next is the Mike Von Erich introduction which I've already seen. Country Whipping Match: Kerry & Kevin Von Erich vs. The Fabulous Freebirds (Terry “Bamm Bamm” Gordy & Michael Hayes) (11/4/83) The Birds didn’t want to take their shirts off so the Von Erichs obliged them and tore them off themselves before starting to whip them with the straps. This was so awesome as all four men just took their turns in strapping the hell out of each other with the Birds selling their asses off while taking brutal punishment. I would not want to be whipped by the Von Erichs as they were laying in the shots. Kerry using two straps at once was fucking great before Kevin got chunked over the top rope for the DQ which was a shitty finish. Kerry got beat on after the match until Kevin was able to make the save. Tremendous stuff and a definite nomination. Super Destroyer (Scott Irwin) vs. Iceman King Parsons (11/4/83) They are building up to a Super D's vs. Iceman/Junkyard Dog match for Thanksgiving night at Reunion Arena so this is a key match in the buildup. Good basic stuff early as Iceman showed off his athleticism and Super D showed why he was one of the best bumping big men of his era. Super D gets the heat and builds nicely for Iceman's comeback which was pretty good. Iceman would hit his Butt Butt but it was too close to the ropes so of course we got the double switch as Super D #2 stepped in and locked in an inside cradle to win the match. Fun little match. "Gorgeous" Jimmy Garvin & Buddy Roberts vs. "Gentleman" Chris Adams & Johnny Mantell (11/4/83) This was good stuff as everyone was solid here but the match was a backdrop for Precious to be spotlighted and for Sunshine to make her appearance to attack her and to keep the Adams/Garvin build strong. American Tag Titles: The Super Destroyers (Wild Bill & Scott Irwin) vs. Junkyard Dog & Iceman King Parsons (11/24/83) Iceman looked good to start the match keeping the pressure on the D’s before tagging in the JYD who continues the dominance. JYD would use his patented headbutts on both of the D’s but missed a running splash into the corner starting a brief D’s control section. JYD would get the tag to Iceman though fairly quickly and he hit the Butt Butt on Super D #1 before #2 broke it up. This would end up in a 4-way brawl before Iceman would get posted on the floor causing him to juice and starting another control section. JYD would get the tag after Iceman fell into the corner and started beating on both D’s as Iceman crawls to the floor and is helped out of the area. JYD is left alone and puts up a good fight but would get outmanned until Iceman shows back up all taped up cleaning house on the D’s. The fans go nuts but the match ends in a DQ in favor of the champs. Iceman then takes a big fireball to the face by Akbar starting a feud that would go on for well over a year. The finish stunk but this was some really fun stuff and I’m throwing it on the block. Then we get videos for Sunshine, Iceman, & Kerry that are all extra material.
