Posted October 6, 200816 yr comment_5435047 Billy White Cloud vs. “Gorgeous” Jimmy Garvin (1/6/84) Not a bad match with White Cloud being quite a different worker compared to the rest of the WCCW roster. Garvin sold a ton here as well which surprised me since he was the American champ. White Cloud breaking out a Indian Death Lock variation was great but it forced Precious to interfere for the DQ. “Gentleman” Chris Adams, Iceman King Parsons, & “Modern Day Warrior” Kerry Von Erich vs. The Missing Link & The Super Destroyers (Wild Bill & Scott Irwin) (1/6/84) Kerry gets mobbed on his way to the ring by the horny females. The faces looked good early using their speed advantage to keep the more powerful heels on the mat along with making some quick tags keeping the fresh man in the ring. Iceman threw some great punches and Adams would hit maybe the weakest looking Superkick ever sending Link to the floor. Adams would get caught in the heel corner but after a botched headbutt by the Link off the top rope onto D #1, Adams would get the tag to Iceman. Iceman would take it to the heels hitting the Butt Butt on D #1 sending him to the floor but as he tried to suplex him back in the ring, Akbar tripped up Iceman but he tucked and rolled over for the pinfall. Both teams brawled with each other after the match. Fun match but basically a squash. The Avenger vs. “Gorgeous” Jimmy Garvin (10/21/83) They replay this match to hype up the upcoming Garvin/Adams match and the story here was that Adams couldn’t get a shot so he had to get a gimmick to beat Garvin to trick him. Garvin doesn’t take the match seriously and he gets his ass kicked ending with a Superkick with Avenger revealing himself as Chris Adams. This is a slam dunk extra. Next we get an awesome promo by the Freebirds talking about their beatdown of Kevin in Fort Worth on 1/30. This is a definite extra. Iceman King Parsons vs. The Missing Link (2/17/84) The crowd is molten hot here as Iceman & Link have a battle to see who has the harder head that features Link bringing a chair to the ring and Iceman hitting him over the head with it 3 times before he went to the floor. Link would try a sneak attack on Iceman but that didn’t work as Iceman attacked him and Link would go to the floor again. Iceman continued his attack until he missed a flying shoulderblock into the corner hitting the turnbuckle. Link then started using his headbutts but would miss a diving one hitting the canvas which would bring out Kamala to attack Iceman for the DQ. Iceman would hit the Butt Butt on Kamala though that would tie him up in the ropes before ducking out. “Gentleman” Chris Adams vs. Buddy Roberts (2/17/84) Good back and forth action here with a clip in the middle where we would miss some stuff. Buddy would put up a great fight but Adams would get a schoolboy for the win. Garvin & Precious would attack Adams & Sunshine after the match before ducking out of the ring. Next we get an early version of the Badstreet USA video with just wrestling clips. Terry “Bamm Bamm” Gordy vs. Kevin Von Erich (3/2/84) Back and forth to start but Gordy would start working over Kevin’s neck to setup the Oriental Spike which he would quickly apply. Kevin would get to the ropes but it would take David Manning to pull Gordy off to break the hold. Gordy would then drop Kevin throat first on the top rope as he resumed his offensive barrage but Kevin would soon counter with the iron claw. Kevin would wrench it in but Gordy would get to the ropes and it would take Manning to pull Kevin off this time. Kevin would come flying back in just beating the stew out of Gordy and it would turn into a slugfest with both men fighting like they were in a phone booth. Manning tried to break them up but would get assaulted by both men before calling for the bell making this a DDQ. The jobber brigade would come out trying to pull them apart but that wouldn’t work as they kept pounding on each other. Hayes would then show up telling Gordy to cut his losses and leave which he would finally do. Very fun stuff with both men beating the hell out of each other and would be great for the extras file. Mike Von Erich vs. Michael Hayes (3/2/84) Mike turned 20 years old on this day and now with David’s death who he was the closest to, he would get a bigger push that would start here. Badstreet USA was blaring loud and proud on the speakers and it was around this time that more fans started getting behind the Birds which would piss off certain WCCW staff members. Hayes was great here as he knew his role was to get Mike over and he would pound on him getting the sympathy then playing to the crowd to get even more heat because Mike didn’t know how to do it on his end. There would be a ref bump so Hayes chunked Mike over the top rope where he could pound on him but Mike would kick out of a nearfall then after Hayes would hit a bulldog, Mike would cut his pin back with a cradle to win. Hayes made this all by himself and it was a great showing for him. Fritz then gives one of his first interviews after David’s death where he would announce that Kerry Von Erich would get the shot at Flair on 5/6 at Texas Stadium. Iceman King Parsons & “Modern Day Warrior” Kerry Von Erich vs. The Super Destroyers (Wild Bill & Scott Irwin) (3/20/84) The faces again use their speed advantage to keep the heels at a disadvantage as they kept a fresh man in the ring but the tide would turn when Kerry missed a kneedrop letting the D’s get the advantage. Kerry would get worked over for a bit before getting a blind tag to Iceman who would hit D #1 flush with a dropkick before going to the offensive but it wouldn’t last long as the D’s would regain control. D #2 hit a sweet spinning salto but again the D’s control section was short as Kerry got the tag and the 4-way brawl was on but not for long. The action got back to normal with Kerry getting a sleeper on D #2 until D #1 attacked him which would bring in the Iceman. Kerry would get knocked to the floor as Iceman got double-teamed but he would climb back on the apron before going up top and hitting a diving body press on D #2 for the win. Fun match but not a nomination. Mike Von Erich vs. “Gorgeous” Jimmy Garvin (3/16/84) It’s Garvin’s turn to make Mike look good and it was getting pretty disturbing to listen to Bill Mercer go on and on on commentary talking about Mike being the clone of David. The fans are chanting We Want Sunshine very loud and that was a true test of how over she was then. Mike gets more offense here than he did against Hayes but it wasn’t much but keeping Garvin in a headscissors on the mat. Mike was getting hardly no heat before Adams shows up wearing Garvin’s sequined jacket and tux prompting Garvin to chunk Mike over the top rope for the DQ. Mike would return and throw Garvin over for revenge. Bad match but Adams in the jacket made it good. The Fabulous Freebirds (Terry “Bamm Bamm” Gordy & Michael Hayes) vs. Kamala & The Missing Link (3/16/84) Ken Mantell’s love of booking heels against heels gets restarted here but the Birds were overwhelming faces in this feud as it gave the fans the chance to love them like they really wanted to. This is nothing but a brawl from the bell with all four men going to war on each other. Hayes would soon be on the wrong end of a Devastation Inc. beatdown though before long and just got worked over serious but would play an awesome FIP getting sympathy trying to get the hot tag getting the fans to chant for him very loudly. Link would miss a diving headbutt off the top rope allowing Hayes to tag in Gordy who comes in cleaning house and the 4-way brawl is back on. Kamala though would send Gordy to the floor leaving Hayes in for a double team but as Link held Hayes down for Kamala to hit the big splash, Hayes pulled Link forward to eat the splash. Gordy then climbed up top and jumped on Kamala for a nearfall before locking in the Oriental Spike which brought Akbar & Friday in the ring for the DQ. Buddy would come out to even the odds which didn’t last long before the Super D’s showed up. Kelly Kiniski then came out before the Von Erichs showed up jumping Devastation Inc. They clear the ring leaving the Von Erichs and Freebirds which of course led to a brawl between the families. This was tremendous stuff and a slam dunk extra.
October 22, 200816 yr comment_5435316 1. Jimmy Garvin vs Chief Whitecloud This was fine wrestling. This was a total blast to watch. Garvin was his usual self. Whitecloud was neat to watch. He brought a lot of energy in his role. Overall, a good bout. 2. Kerry Von Erich, Iceman Parsons, + Chris Adams vs Super Destroyers + The Missing Link KVE is a total rock star. This was a great bout to highlight the faces. int: Kerry Von erich, Iceman Parsons, Chris Adams, + Sunshine 3. Jimmy Garvin vs Masked Avenger - Avenger unmasks to be Chris Adams Just an incredible angle and a sure fired extra. int: Freebirds Just a great promo. 4. Iceman Parsons vs Missing Link This had its moments, but nowhere near a nomonation. I love the Butt-Butt. 5. Chris Adams vs Buddy Roberts A couple of real pros here. Roberts is great at working the neck of Adams. The crowd is behind Adams big time. I wonder how much got clipped. Roberts takes a huge bump into the table. This was a lot of fun while it lasted. I hope we get a 10 minute or so bout between the 2 because it should be good. This wasn't given enough time for a nomination. I thought Roberts was the star of this bout. - highlights Kevin Von Erich vs King Kong Bundy - Reunion Arena 6. Chris Adams vs Kelly Kiniski - jip - Michael Hayes promo Gotta love seeing Hayes in a Michael Jackson "Beat It" jacket. We get a Bad Street video showing the Freebirds kicking ass. This is another possible extra. 7. Terry Gordy vs Kevin Von Erich This is solid stuff. I loved the Oriental Spike stuff. He looked like a big bear mauling a deer. The claw revenge spot was cool. Both wrestlers are working snug. This is a possible nomination, but I'm going to pass. 8. Michael Hayes vs Mike Von Erich Hayes worked his ass of to make MVE look like a Von Erich. This had some fun moments but not a nomination. int: Jimmy Garvin int: Fritz Von Erich 9. Buddy Roberts vs Chris Adams - jip 10. Kerry Von Erich + Iceman Parsons vs Super Destroyers This was fun too, but not a nomination. 11. Mike Von Erich vs Jimmy Garvin This was the first time in WCCW that Garvin didn't have a good match from what I've seen. 12. Michael Hayes + Terry Gordy vs Kamala + Missing Link - Von Erichs come to help Freebirds as Freebirds fake a face turn only to attack the Von Erichs This starts out super hot. The crowd is dieing to cheer the Freebird. This was a fun brawl. I liked this plus with a killer angle makes this as a nomination for me.
May 22, 201015 yr comment_5451131 Freebirds Interview (1/30) God damn, the Freebirds rule so hard. This is an extra. Iceman King Parsons vs. The Missing Link (2/17/84) This was a lot of fun. Too short and one-sided to be a nomination, but I could see it being an extra. Michael Hayes Interview The "Thriller" jacket with an ascot...wow. Terry “Bamm Bamm” Gordy vs. Kevin Von Erich (3/2/84) Not one of their better outings. Mike Von Erich vs. Michael Hayes (3/2/84) Very good match. Hayes did a great job of leading young Mike through this thing without embarrassing himself. I do want to give Mike credit for selling getting thrown over the top rope like it was actually something worth a DQ. But this was a Hayes carryjob. Mike Von Erich vs. “Gorgeous” Jimmy Garvin (3/16/84) I don't know that this was necessarily a better match than Mike vs. Hayes, but in some ways, I thought it worked better. Garvin gave Mike a bit more leeway, which could have (and at points did) backfired, but Mike actually seemed to be putting some effort into this, and Garvin's stooging went a long way in making up for the less-than-crisp nature of Mike's offense. Not a nomination, but I think it should be an extra.
