DVD #5

2/22/85 (taped 2/15) - Matches, all from a Polynesian tour, also appear on Classics 185. BTW, the NJ visits to other countries are always amusing for the homoerotic shots of NJ wrestlers running on the beach and lounging on yachts.

Seiji Sakaguchi/Ano Atisanoe vs. Chu/Sakarie - The Polynesians looked pretty good roughing up Atisanoe. Nothing too memorable, however.

The Cobra vs. Richie Magnet - These guys didn't seem to know how to work together.

Tatsumi Fujinami vs. Strong Machine #1 - Strong Machine spent the whole match clubbing and choking Fujinami. As soon as Fujinami rallied, the Machines' manager interfered for the DQ. Damn, this is shaping up as a shitty episode.

Antonio Inoki vs. Hacksaw Higgins - I suspect these two had a good 15-minute match in them as Higgins had enough power offense to seem like a threat to Inoki and knew how to play heel. But this lasted about seven minutes and featured a totally mailed-in performance by Inoki.

3/1/85 (taped 3/1)

Atisanoe/Hoshino/Sakaguchi vs. Strong Machines - This was a two-minute clip that ended with the Machines quadruple-teaming Sakaguchi for the DQ. Not sure why they bothered showing it.

Shunji Takano vs. David Shultz - Speaking of why-did-they-bother experiences, Shultz squashed Takano in about three minutes here.

Kimura/Fujinami vs. Kelly Twins - Well, at least it was an actual match. The Kelly Twins brought some good, basic brawling to the table and they spent most of this 15-minute match displaying it on Kimura. Unfortunately, instead of being a back-and-forth affair, this was one of those matches where Fujinami let the other guys stay on offense the whole way and then won with a two-minute burst of offense at the end. Just a lazy structure.

Antonio Inoki vs. Hacksaw Higgins - Maybe I was wrong about that good 15-minute match. Higgins looked like a different guy here, working sluggishly and leaving most of his best stuff unused. I liked Inoki using the enziguiri in desparation to turn the tide of the match. But just as they started picking up the action, Shultz, whom I've come to hate, busted in for the DQ. Uninspired end to two uninspired episodes of wrestling.
