Posted October 13, 200816 yr comment_5435165 American Heavyweight Title: “Handsome Halfbreeed” Gino Hernandez © vs. Mike Von Erich (8/3/84) Mike is subbing for Kevin here to face OUR champion with the story being that Kevin missed his flight. Gino points and laughs at Mike before the match and pays for it because Mike comes out hitting a lot of moves sending Gino to the floor. Mike would lock in a sleeper but Gino would bash his head on the turnbuckle to counter but Mike would soon recover to press slam Gino off the top rope. Mike would get a nearfall on a fucking backdrop of all things before Gino finally takes control. Gino nearly KO’s Mike with a clothesline to the ear and follows up with a neckbreaker before hitting another hard clothesline. Gino then starts just mauling Mike before trying to talk shit to the crowd giving Mike the chance to hit a schoolboy to win the title. Mike is so awkward in everything he does even in celebration and what a shame that Gino dropped the title to him. The match wasn’t really good and it was all Gino. Then we get a World Class video set to The Cars “You Might Think” and this is a definite extra. Skip Young vs. Kelly Kiniski (8/3/84) JIP and they show this to set up the Pretty Young Things attacking Skip. Mike Von Erich vs. Wild Bill Irwin (8/3/84) Gino comes out before the match and demands that he get a rematch because Mike was lucky leaving Mike open for a sneak attack by Irwin. David Manning shows up and demands the match be stopped because Gordy & Killer Khan must wrestle immediately because they were fighting in the back. Terry “Bamm Bamm” Gordy vs. Killer Khan (8/3/84) Gordy comes out bleeding and Hayes slaps him around to further fire him up. Khan then comes out with the Irwins and the war is on. The fans are nuts for the Freebirds as these two just beat the shit out of each other with Gordy throwing some bombs. It ends up with the Freebirds brawling with the Irwins making this a DDQ then an insane brawl that cleared out the locker room. This is a slam dunk extra. Then we get the restarted Mike Von Erich/Bill Irwin match and Mike wins fairly quickly. Killer Khan vs. Kevin Von Erich (6/22/84) This had some really good back and forth action with lots of heat and both men just taking it to each other. Khan would press slam David Manning as he tried to get between them and we would have a simultaneous claw/Oriental Spike with Bronko Lubich coming out ruling this a DDQ. The locker room then comes out to pull them apart and we get an early John Tatum sighting. This was another great fight and another definite extra. Gary Hart makes his return to World Class and cuts a promo on Akbar. Lumberjack Match: “Modern Day Warrior” Kerry Von Erich vs. Terry “Bamm Bamm” Gordy (8/17/84) Gordy is subbing for Hayes here due to travel problems. Kerry was a house of fire to start here as Gordy threw him to the floor then ran back in the ring just firing punches before sending Gordy out. The match would then go back and forth with both men looking great especially Gordy who just pounded on Kerry even giving him a piledriver for a nearfall. Gordy would go for another one but Kerry would counter with a backdrop before hitting a piledriver of his own with Gordy getting his foot on the bottom rope on the pinfall. Gordy would make a comeback though getting the Oriental Spike on Kerry with the fans going apeshit rooting for Kerry to get out of it. Gordy would have it on for quite a while before Khan comes into the ring to attack Gordy leading to all of the lumberjacks coming in for a wild brawl. The match was loads of fun with both men being awesome and this goes on the block easily. Gino then cuts a great promo on Stella Mae French for costing him his match against Ric Flair. Iceman King Parsons & Skip Young vs. The Pretty Young Things (Norvell Austin & Koko Ware) (8/17/84) Skip looked awesome early on with his leapfrogs and his takedowns that led to a great jumping high five with Iceman as they ran to the middle of the ring. Iceman would tag in and it was more of the same for Norvell before he tagged Koko in the ring who caught Iceman flush with a shot but as Koko strutted away, Iceman trailed him and nearly punched his lights out. Skip would come back in but this time the PYT’s started taking control with Koko hitting a nice powerslam that led into their control section. Iceman would soon get the hot tag and started throwing bombs on the PYT’s with Koko begging his ass off but he would catch Iceman in the running lights with a knee smash in the face that would lead to another control section with the PYT’s just pounding on Iceman. PYT’s looked great here as they showed a lot of aggression but Iceman would fight back before making the hot tag to Skip who came in blazing until Iceman could join him. The 4-way brawl is on until Skip ducks a double clothesline and converts it into a cross body block on Norvell for the win. PYT’s are pissed and throw Iceman to the floor so they can beat on Skip some more but he gets back in the ring to send them running. Great match and a definite nomination. Kevin Von Erich vs. “Handsome Halfbreed” Gino Hernandez (8/17/84) The match that was supposed to happen the taping before goes down here just this time, Gino is beltless. Gino is awesome doing his chickenshit schtick early in the match and the crowd just despises him with passion. Kevin keeps Gino grounded using his patented bodyscissors to take the steam out of Gino who would bite Kevin’s toes to break out of it in an awesome spot. Kevin would get pissed at that and started pounding on Gino before he missed his diving body press due to Gino getting his bare knees up. Gino didn’t last long on offense as Kevin would press slam him off the top rope before locking in the iron claw but Gino would get to the ropes to escape. Gino would come back in the ring where he would get the claw again but raked Kevin in the eyes to get out before choking him with the tape around his wrist. Kevin would fight back though and locked in the claw for a 3rd time but Gino would get in the ropes again to break free. Kevin would get pushed off by Bronko Lubich allowing to Gino to put some brass knux around his wrist to knock out Kevin for the win. Stella Mae French would come out and attacked Gino after the match and Gino put the knux back around on his fist to KO Stella but they took him down and his knux were seen in broad daylight allowing the refs to reverse the decision. Fun angle after the match even with the shitty Stella Mae and this match is a nomination. Iceman King Parsons vs. “Handsome Halfbreed” Gino Hernandez (7/6/84) Gino again is so fucking great doing his schtick to start the match getting the crowd hot at him. I loved the test of strength spot that allowed Iceman to climb up the ropes for a lucha style takedown and Gino’s reaction to it afterwards. They did the spot again this time with Gino climbing up the ropes but Iceman would let go and Gino crotched himself which he sold like he was castrated. Fucking awesome. Gino would come back in the ring selling and Iceman just started throwing shots on him while Gino begged off. Gino would finally get control with a headbutt to the gut or not because Iceman immediately went back on offense getting a nearfall after a body slam but Gino would catch him in the running lights as he got up. Gino would now get aggressive using his thumb to the throat but would miss a running splash into the corner that would allow Iceman to make a comeback. Iceman had Gino on the defensive until Wild Bill Irwin & Akbar ran out for the DQ with Irwin whipping him as Gino gloated until Adams & Zumhofe made the save. Really fun match and even with the finish I’m throwing it on the block for consideration. Gino was so fucking awesome. Adams & Gary Hart then cut a promo in the ring with Adams announcing that Gary Hart would be his advisor and let the games begin. Slam dunk extra. Next we get a PYT’s video to what else Pretty Young Things by Michael Jackson and this is extra material. “Modern Day Warrior” Kerry Von Erich vs. Killer Khan (9/14/84) These two just started working each other over at the bell with Kerry throwing some great looking punches and Khan building to the Oriental Spike which he would attempt to lock on but Kerry would use his strength to hold him off. Kerry then put on the stomach claw with Khan giving a great facial for but would counter out of it. The slugfest would continue but Khan would take control using the Mongolian Chop but would miss his diving kneedrop off the top rope allowing Kerry to start firing back. Kerry would then lock in the iron claw before the Link would show up for the DQ and got the claw for his trouble. Khan would attack Kerry to break the claw and they doubleteam him before leaving the ring. The match was a great sprint but not very long and should be on the set but as an extra. “Gentleman” Chris Adams & Sunshine vs. “Gorgeous” Jimmy Garvin & Precious (5/6/84) Adams & Garvin were good here but the match as a whole wasn’t that great although this was basically the culmination of this feud and is a definite extra. “Gentleman” Chris Adams vs. Wild Bill Irwin (8/31/84) This was a damn solid match that was well worked with both men giving and taking and Adams looking pretty damn good. Irwin was fine as well and hung with Adams for the whole match. Both men would hit their kicks and both managers would interfere with Hart getting the better of it hitting Irwin so Adams could win. Like I said earlier a solid match that goes on the block.
November 2, 200816 yr comment_5435504 1. Mike Von Erich vs Gino Hernandez I didn't hate this as much as KrisZ. It's still not a nomination. Gino work real hard here.I would say this is probaly one of Mike's best matches. We get a great WCCW music video. This has to go as an extra.I mean the Cars rule, and it's a fun video to boot. 2. Skip Young vs Kelly Kiniski - PYT's attack Young This was a nice little angle. 3.. Mike Von Erich vs Bill Irwin This was solid while it lasted, David Manning ends it because Khan and Gordy are tearing up the back.It gets restarted after the big brawl and we get a finish after a clip job. 4. Terry Gordy vs Killer Khan This was a big time brawl, and a sure fire extra. 5. Kevin Von Erich vs Killer Khan This was good while it lasted. The locker room comes out to seperate them. We get another brawl and another possible extra. int: Gary Hart 6. Kerry Von Erich vs Terry Gordy - lumberjack match This is a nice give and take fight, with some good lumberjack spots. Bam Bam delivers a brutal Piledriver. Khan would get involved and another brawl erupts. The story that was told in the ring was good. I'm not as high on this as KrisZ is, but I still think it's a nomination. int: Gino Hernandez 7. PYT's vs Skip Young + Iceman Parsons This was good. We had both faces getting a chance to shine. This allowed Skip to work in his athleticism into the match This is the best use of Skip. The jumping high five was classic shuck and jive stuff. Parson's FIP was done well. The PYT's were great in this as well. Plus we get a fun finish. This is a solid nomination. 8. Gino Hernandez vs Kevin Von Erich This has some great heat here. Gino is such a great character. Kevin was so great controlling Gino with the body scissors. Gino biting Kevin's toe was gross, but a cool escape. I loved this match, and I feel this is a nomination. 9. Gino Hernandez vs Iceman King Parsons I'm digging Gino's race baiting with him panomining Parson's shining his boots. Parson's doing the top rope Lucha arm drag was swank. Not to be outdone Gino attempts to do the same, but crotches himself instead and sells it huge. I loved the early character work from both men. The work was solid. The finish was the shits though. I'll co sign on KrisZ nomination just off the early bullshit stuff we get in the match. int: Chris Adams + Gary Hart A sure fire extra. 10. Kerry Von Erich vs Killer Khan This was fun, and Khan's knee drop from the 2nd rope is awesome. Just not enough time for a nomination. A great PYT's video that is extra material. 11. Jimmy Garvin + Precious vs Chris Adams + Sunshine - Texas Stadium Another sure fire extra. This was a ton of fun, and I wouldn't fight it if someone wanted it on the main set. I liked this better than the mixed tag on the Memphis set. 12. Chris Adams vs Bill Irwin I liked Adams selling, Irwin had a believeable offense. Some of the near falls were great. Overall I liked the bout, but not enough for a nomination.
December 9, 200915 yr comment_5446306 American Heavyweight Title: “Handsome Halfbreeed” Gino Hernandez © vs. Mike Von Erich (8/3/84) I'm somewhere in between the two of you. Gino made this watchable. I like that he was initially treating Mike as a joke before getting shown up by him, whereas every other heel of the time was quaking in fear at the sight of the pasty, scrawny, mouthbreathing kid. Still, Mike wasn't exactly what you would call "good", and while Gino was game, this match was just OK. Skip Young vs. Kelly Kiniski (8/3/84) The post-match promo and beatdown by the PYT's were good stuff. Possible extra. Mike Von Erich vs. Wild Bill Irwin (8/3/84) Something's clipped out. What's shown is actually pretty good. Irwin laid in a nice beating, and eating a beatdown is the one thing Mike does well. The match is stopped because David Manning has his priorities straight and knows that a Gordy/Khan fight would be way more awesome than this. Terry “Bamm Bamm” Gordy vs. Killer Khan (8/3/84) Obvious extra. Killer Khan vs. Kevin Von Erich (6/22/84) This is the best match-up that never actually happens for some reason. Extra. int: Gary Hart He's baaaaack.... int: Gino Hernandez Gino is the man. Probably falls short of extra material, but he was really delivering on the mic and in the ring at this point. Iceman King Parsons & Skip Young vs. The Pretty Young Things (Norvell Austin & Koko Ware) (8/17/84) If you liked Skip Young's match with Butch Reed on the Mid-South set, you'll love him in World Class, where he is given a bit more of a substantive role. This is a fine example, and really, everyone comes up big here. This moves forward. Kevin Von Erich vs. “Handsome Halfbreed” Gino Hernandez (8/17/84) Not much to add to what Kris said already. This was a ton of fun as you might expect from these two. I'll third the nomination. Iceman King Parsons vs. “Handsome Halfbreed” Gino Hernandez (7/6/84) Another great match that I'll co-sign as a nomination. Gino was a really great addition to the roster, and he is having fantastic matches with just about everybody worth a damn. int: Chris Adams + Gary Hart In the immortal words of Kel Mitchell, "Awwwwwwwwwwwwwww, here it goes!" Obvious extra. Pretty Young Things "Pretty Young Thing" Music Video Potential extra. “Modern Day Warrior” Kerry Von Erich vs. Killer Khan (9/14/84) I thought this was a letdown considering who was involved. “Gentleman” Chris Adams & Sunshine vs. “Gorgeous” Jimmy Garvin & Precious (5/6/84) I am almost considering putting this on the block, but I think I'll refrain. Adams and Garvin are great together as always. Sunshine and Precious are not exactly what you would call "professional wrestlers", but they are totally fired up and charismatic, even if their execution leaves something to be desired. Jimmy tripping up Sunshine after she got tagged in and helping Precious take control was such a great dick move. The post-match attack on the fleeing heels was great, too. The cameraman AAA's the finish, but what are you going to do? Slam dunk extra. “Gentleman” Chris Adams vs. Wild Bill Irwin (8/31/84) Irwin was really fired up here. He can be erratic, but definitely gave a strong performance here. Adams was great as usual. Loved him frustrating Irwin with his speed and agility early on. Irwin's running kneedrop was brutal. Finish looked a bit off to me. No way the ref didn't see Hart interfere. Still, it was an awesome match, and I'll second the nomination.
