Garvin is such a great douchebag. Him yelling "I'm the champion!" while Adams had him grounded with a headlock was awesome. Match goes to a time limit draw, and Garvin, who had promised to defend the American Title every week on TV, suddenly decides he doesn't want to do that anymore." Aftermath of a Kerry Von Erich/Michael Hayes match JIP with Iceman King Parsons handcuffed to the ropes and the Freebirds beating on him before Kerry makes the save. Some of the extraneous stuff might belong as extras due to the creep factor. Particularly jarring/ironic/hilarious if you have a certain sense of humor is a bit near the end plugging a follow-up special that promises a more in-depth look at the lives of the Von Erichs, including the promise that we'll "learn about the family's hobbies", a point made while they show either Kevin or Mike shooting a rifle. Falls Count Anywhere Match for the American Heavyweight Title: King Kong Bundy vs. Fritz Von Erich I can dig the heat and the historical significance of the match, but beyond that, don't think it has a strong case for nomination. Shoe mentions that you'd probably want Fritz selling more and Bundy delivering more of an assbeating. Fritz not selling more I understand. Frankly, he did just enough in that regard. Having the claw as his one sure thing to protect him from the younger and stronger Bundy was definitely the highlight of the match. Bundy not delivering the assbeating is a problem. If the psychology if the match is that Bundy is a young badass and Fritz is a tough old guy who has to rely on cunning, and Bundy doesn't deliver the badassery, then things start to fall apart. I think it gets held together well enough by Fritz, and the result is a very good match, but not a great one. American Heavyweight Title Match: Terry Gordy vs. Kevin Von Erich I've seen these two wrestle each other a billion times now (I counted), and it's reached the point where it's starting to turn into one great big block of largely great but hard to identify wrestling. This is not one of their better matches. NWA World Heavyweight Title Match: Ric Flair vs. Kerry Von Erich Maybe it's a greatest hits package, but maybe that's exactly what they needed here. In any case it was awesome, and one of the biggest bouts of the 20th century to boot. Slam dunk. Suddenly, we enter some kind of Japanese release, which features....
