DVD #24

11/15/85 (taped 11/15)

Mr. Pogo/Kendo Nagasaki vs. Kelly Twins - Where else can you find twins in plaid Irish get-ups staging a fake fight against two dudes in ninja costumes, one of whom looks like a Japanese dirty clown? Gotta love wrestling. The match itself was unremarkable.

Kimura/Fujinami vs. Jimmy Snuka/Bruiser Brody - They actually took advantage of Brody's no-selling in that, when Kimura finally knocked him off his feet with a leg lariat, the crowd went ballistic. This was (no surprise) a fairly one-sided match. It was a pretty good version of a one-sided match and I liked the ending, in which a frustrated Brody kicked Fujinami over the guard rail. But it needed a few more rallies from the natives to push it to nomination territory.

Inoki/Sakaguchi vs. Superstar/Dick Murdoch - This had some fun Murdoch exchanges but didn't build into a standout match.

11/22/85 (taped 11/22)

Kengo Kimura/Tatsumi Fujinami vs. Dos Caras/Jimmy Snuka - Fujinami and Kimura were on fire at this point, cranking out highly entertaining matches against almost any team they wrestled. I had no expectations of this one. But Dos Caras injected some lucha flying, Snuka looked good as the most physically intimidating guy in the match and damned if they didn't put together an engaging spotfest. I'll toss it a low-end nomination.

Dick Murdoch vs. Bruiser Brody - Weird to see a paunchy redneck as the stick-and-move underdog. But this was pretty great. Brody busted Murdoch badly on the outside and then brought a table into the ring to finish the job. Wily old Murdoch caught Brody off guard however and sent him into the table. At that point, he did sort of a drunken version of the Ali shuffle, which popped the crowd big time. Match should really go on the set just for that. But it got better as they ended up on their knees, both bloody, punching each other in the face. When the ref and ringside trainees tried to stop them, they kicked their asses and went back to hitting each other. This is the rare Brody match that lives up to his "great brawler" rep (though Murdoch was better, of course) and a slam dunk.

Inoki/Sakaguchi vs. Barbarian/Higgins - Episode ended in the middle of this, but it didn't look like much anyhow.
