Posted October 22, 200817 yr comment_5435319 Weird to see a paunchy redneck as the stick-and-move underdog. But this was pretty great. Brody busted Murdoch badly on the outside and then brought a table into the ring to finish the job. Wily old Murdoch caught Brody off guard however and sent him into the table. At that point, he did sort of a drunken version of the Ali shuffle, which popped the crowd big time. Match should really go on the set just for that. But it got better as they ended up on their knees, both bloody, punching each other in the face. When the ref and ringside trainees tried to stop them, they kicked their asses and went back to hitting each other. This is the rare Brody match that lives up to his "great brawler" rep (though Murdoch was better, of course) and a slam dunk.
August 3, 200916 yr comment_5442454 I didn't like this as much as Childs, the bloody brawl part of this was super crazy and the Ali shuffle he mentioned was awesome. Still this took a while to get going, and the first seven minutes or so was pretty dull. I am fine moving it forward, but I don't think it is a Slam Dunk
August 4, 200916 yr comment_5442514 I agree with Phil here that the first several minutes really dragged. It was fun to see Murdoch and Brody sizing each other up, but I am beginning to notice, with the help of Phil, that Brody's selling can be very disappointing. It would be more compelling if Brody tried to look like he was in pain as opposed to looking flabbergasted when on the receiving end of Murdoch's offense. I think if Murdoch had bladed in the first minute of this match and it went the same length, then it would be a slam dunk. But I would lean toward keeping this off the set, despite the awesome Ali shuffle.
September 2, 200916 yr comment_5443745 I didn't think the first few minutes were dull so much as unremarkable. They botched a leap frog but covered it up ok and I like Murdoch enough that he kept me engaged in what they were doing. Hell, at least for whatever selling Brody doesn't do, Murdoch more than makes up for it. Once he was bloodied up, at least it was Murdoch doing the big time sell and Brody has nice looking offense. Unlike the Inoki matches, the crowd was hot for this the entire match with very little downtime. The ending sucked which really killed the vibe for me. I am siding with Phil on calling it a good match that I enjoyed but has some real flaws that keep it from being a sure thing. I am not ready to drop it completely like Lee though.
