Posted October 23, 200816 yr comment_5435338 They worked back and forth a lot more than in some of their previous singles matches. Murdoch seized the advantage after some opening matwork with his usual punches and knees to the body. Inoki rallied with punches and moved into a legwork section. Murdoch sold both the blows and the leg stuff well, especially with his facial expressions. He responded with some of his bigger offense before Inoki finished it with the enziguiri. Murdoch used this great cross-eyed expression to sell the brain-scrambling effects of Inoki's finisher. Not a classic but very solid and I'll nominate it because it's the best singles match I've seen between these two. Appears on NJ TV 12/19/85 and on NJ Classics 219
June 7, 200916 yr comment_5440334 Antonio Inoki vs. Dick Murdoch - Early on, they work some headlock spots but I get interested when Murdoch starts working the arm. I get a kick out of little shit like stepping on the fingers so he can stomp on the arm. With Murdoch in control, they mix it up enough where it never gets too boring. Inoki takes control on a leg trip that leads to an Indian Death lock which leads in to a bow and arrow which he turns into a pinning combo. Just a beautiful sequence. After Inoki continues to work on the legs, Murdoch makes his comeback hitting his big signature spots. The one flaw here is he starts off selling the leg but that disappears shortly in to the comeback. OH FUCK! Look at Murdoch’s face after Inoki hits the finishing enziguiri. Great, great stuff and a definite nomination.
August 15, 200916 yr comment_5442795 I enjoyed this but I am not sure that outside of Murdoch's crazy facial sell much noteworthy was going on. I am not sure on a set this good, one great face makes a set. Mild endorsement, but this should go in doubt
August 15, 200916 yr comment_5442798 I don't think either one of us thought that the facial expression put the match over the top... just a cool visual that was noteworthy. The work in the match stands on its own. I think both of us gave other explanations on why the match was set worthy.
August 15, 200916 yr comment_5442809 Liked this more than Phil. Agree with most of Phil's opinions on the stuff we watched tonight but this felt more like a low end nomination than a no. Highlight for me was really all the leg work by Inoki--I mean it's a Murdoch match where I walk away thinking the highlight was Inoki's spots.
