Posted October 27, 200816 yr comment_5435394 This starts with a history of the Adams/Kevin feud. Lumberjack Match: “Gentleman” Chris Adams vs. Kevin Von Erich (12/25/84) The lumberjacks do their jobs early keeping the guys in the ring and not actually beating them up. Adams has come into his own as a heel here and the fans are now hating his guts with him eating it up. Adams even breaks out a piledriver here before going up top with Kevin bouncing up and press slamming him throat first on the top rope. Kevin then pins Adams for the 3 count but his foot was under the rope then locks in the claw after the match but Gary Hart would jump him allowing Kevin to attack him. Adams takes off Hart’s shoe and nails Kevin before Mike jumps in to make the save. This was a very heated match both in the ring and in the crowd as the fans were molten and it had a cool finish. This goes forward even though it was the lesser of their matches so far. Bill Mercer then does a sitdown with Billy Jack Haynes & Sunshine talking about his name change. NWA World Heavyweight Title: “Nature Boy” Ric Flair © vs. Terry “Bamm Bamm” Gordy (1/11/85) This is a rematch from almost two years ago where Gordy has grown more as a worker so this should be a good matchup. Mercer before the match says that Gordy is a “friend of the small boy” which isn’t an endearing term. Billy Jack Haynes comes out before the match and challenges the winner for a shot at his title which Flair dances around that idea then says that he wanted Sunshine for 2 years and wants a kiss. Flair then kisses her and she slaps him in the face and Flair was so awesome here. Gordy takes advantage of this and really takes it to Flair but he would fight back of course. This would become a solid back and forth match with both men looking good with both men doing stuff not normal for them like Flair with a piledriver and Gordy with the figure-four. Gordy would get the edge and locked in the Oriental Spike but Flair would get into the ropes. Flair would get Gordy in a backdrop suplex hold with Gordy springing his feet off the top rope with Flair having his shoulder up and foot on the rope to put Gordy away. This was a very fun match and moves forward. MX & Cornette cut their debut promo in the locker room with Mercer and this is a definite extra. American Tag Titles: The Fantastics (Bobby Fulton & Tommy Rogers) © vs. The Midnight Express (“Loverboy” Dennis Condrey & “Beautiful” Bobby Eaton) (1/11/85) The fans are insane over the Fants here as they have heat similar to the Von Erichs at their peak almost. Rogers puts on a great one-man show early here as he takes a pounding but makes his own comeback and doesn’t tag in Fulton as he just keeps on going. Fulton would finally get the tag as Rogers started to get tired and he keeps up the pressure with Eaton bumping all over the place with great selling. It would take some illegal hair pulling by Condrey on Fulton to kick start the MX control section. Fulton plays FIP here which isn’t the norm and takes a beating from the MX along with Cornette getting his shots in. Fulton isn’t as great as Rogers is being the FIP but he does really well here and the fans are dying for him to get the hot tag. Rogers would get said hot tag and cleans house on the MX until Fulton joins him for the 4-way brawl but Condrey would throw Rogers into David Manning knocking him down. The brawl wound continue until Rogers went for an O’Connor Roll on Eaton and Cornette KOed him with a tennis racket so the MX could get the win in a match that went 17:21. This was a fantastic match (no pun intended) and easily goes on the block. Gary Hart then cuts a promo about Adams being sidestepped by Flair for a shot at his title. Hart then says that he has the final solution for his problem. Extra material. “Modern Day Warrior” Kerry Von Erich vs. “Gentleman” Chris Adams (1/11/85) We Are The Champions blares over the speakers as Adams comes to the ring which was awesome. This had a great start ending with Adams hitting a tremendous Superkick on Kerry sending him to the floor as Adams posed. Both men would soon trade sleeper holds as the match but Kerry would place Adams on the top rope as he had his version on and punched him off the top rope sending him to the floor. The back and forth action would continue before Adams would send Kerry to the floor and would hit an awesome tope suicida sending Kerry into the fans. Adams would go after Kerry as he came back into the ring but Kerry would lock in a backslide to get the win in a flash fashion. Kerry then locked in the claw on both Adams & Hart before Hart’s final solution would show up in the One Man Gang who would destroy Kerry. The match was great fun and so was the angle afterwards. This is another nomination. Mercer then interviews Gary Hart in his office and he goes into more details about his war against the Von Erichs. Extra material. Kevin Von Erich then cuts a promo about World Class coming to Israel soon. The Dynamic Duo (“Gentleman” Chris Adams & “Handsome Halfbreed” Gino Hernandez) vs. Billy Jack Haynes & Kevin Von Erich (1/25/85) Haynes has quite the afro perm going here which Gino would make fun of. Haynes also is wearing white tights here which is odd for him. There was a fun spot early in the match where Billy made a blind tag to Kevin and as Gino ducked under a leapfrog he met a dropkick to the face followed up by Kevin’s diving body press for a nearfall. This match would go and in out of the ring with all four men looking good even Haynes plus it had great heat of course. The Duo were starting to team more here and their chemistry was so great that it was easy to see that they were a natural team. Gino made Billy look great by bumping and selling like crazy for him especially on a press slam. Billy would lock Gino in the full-nelson but Adams would give him a Superkick to the back of the head allowing Gino to get the pin. Lots of action here and everyone looked good so this moves forward. Mercer then interviews Cornette & & MX in the locker room again in another great promo. Extra material. Then we get highlights of Jake the Snake breaking Mike Von Erich’s PWI Rookie of the Year award in Fort Worth. Extra material. Mike Von Erich vs. Jake “The Snake” Roberts (1/25/85) Poor Jake is on his way to Mid-South and is jobbing his ass off here. Jake tried here but Mike just wasn’t good. Next we get highlights of Rip Oliver jumping Billy Jack Haynes in Fort Worth bringing their PNW feud to Texas as Oliver “injured” Haynes which was the way to get around him quitting the promotion. American Heavyweight Title: “Modern Day Warrior” Kerry Von Erich © vs. “Gentleman” Chris Adams (2/8/85) Adams would hit an enzuigiri to start the match which would set the tone here as both men came in here with their working boots on. Adams at this point was one of the best in the world and Kerry would put on great effort against him like he did against Flair so basically Adams brought out the best in him. The struggle over Kerry putting on the iron claw was so well done here as the camera angle showed Adams basically fighting his heart out trying to hold Kerry off. Kerry would hit the discus punch on Adams for a nearfall as Hart put his foot on the bottom rope so Kerry would chase after him allowing him to eat a Superkick but Kerry would block it with his hands falling to the floor. Kerry would climb back on the apron as Hart hit him with his shoe then ate a fucking swank Superkick for the win the title. Great match with loads of action and heat and a definite nomination.
November 15, 200816 yr comment_5435741 - Kevin Von Erich/Chris Adams feud highlights This is a nice recap and could be used in recapping this feud in the extras. 1. Kevin Von Erich vs Chris Adams - lumberjack match; Reunion Arena Adams sporting the pimp hat and swank jacket. This was another solid brawl between the 2. I liked how Adams worked over Kevin's neck. The wrestlers worked this good and tight. That finish was brutal. I'll give it a lukewarm endorsement. This has been the weakest of their bouts. The 12-25-84 show was a great show.WCCW delivered on its big shows as far as action during the hot period. int: Bill Mercer w/ Sunshine + Billy Jack 2. Ric Flair vs Terry Gordy Flair on the stick was gold. He gets a 10 for his interaction with Sunshine. This was cool. I dug Flair's 2nd rope elbow smash. I also liked that Flair worked over Gordy's neck. Sure the piledriver was the shits, but at least it was a twist to the normal formula. Of course Gordy carried his end of things by laying it into Flair. Gotta give Flair props for his bumps. That ring looks like it has no give. I also liked the finish because you can work rematches out of it. Overall, this was enjoyable, and a nomination. int: Jim Cornette w/ Midnight Express Good stuff. 3. Fantastics vs Midnight Express How awesome was Rogers kicking at Eaton on the outside to avoid the MX tag. The MX just stooging their asses off for The Fantastics. Dallas just loves The Fantastics. This was just another in a long line of great bouts between the 2 teams. That pop off the hot tag was insane. Just a great finish to a great match. A total nomination. int: Gary Hart A good interview from Hart. 4. Kerry Von Erich vs Chris Adams - One Man Gang attaks Kerry No one eats the superkick better than Kerry. Adams gets a lot of mileage with the headlock/chinlock variations. Adams takes a huge bump from the top corner to the floor off a KVE discuss punch The Tope' suicida that Adams bust out was hot.. I love how Adams will bust out a flashy move and get even more heat from the crowd. Both men worked hard and I'll cosign the nom. int: Gary Hart at his office Teriffic stuff, and I dug Hart's POV, and justification to his actions. int: Kevin Von Erich 5. Kevin Von Erich + Billy Jack vs Chris Adams + Gino Hernandez This was fun. I thought the Duo were great at bumping and making their foes look good. All 4 men looked good in this. This had a good finish to it. I liked this, but in the grand scheme of things I vote no. - highlights One Man Gang vs Iceman Parsons int: Jim Cornette w/ Midnight Express Super stuff from the MX. - Mike Von Erich receiving his PWI award; Jake Roberts comes out and smashes the trophy - Ft Worth Great angle, Extra material. 6. Mike Von Erich vs Jake Roberts Poor Jake. Mike blows. I dug Jake attacking Mike's knee/leg. Jake kept this interesting with his work. - Billy Jack/Rip Oliver confrontation - Ft Worth What a shame. I liked Billy Jack as a face right underneath the Von Erich brothers in the Adams/Parsons role. 7. Kerry Von Erich vs Chris Adams This was some choice stuff here. I was digging the claw spots. I dig the little thing where KVE wipes his hand on his trunks before he goes for it so it won't slip off. Both men looked good. My minor problem I had was it was a little too my turn your turn. Adams sell job on the claw was great. That finish was perfect. A hell of a bout and a nomination.
December 13, 200915 yr comment_5446380 int: Jim Cornette w/ Midnight Express Quality stuff from Cornette. This should be an extra. American Tag Titles: The Fantastics (Bobby Fulton & Tommy Rogers) © vs. The Midnight Express (“Loverboy” Dennis Condrey & “Beautiful” Bobby Eaton) (1/11/85) My mind wandered at a few points for some reason, but this was still an awesome bout. Cornette is really amped up at the beginning, as he does not want to be humiliated again, and the MX delivers big. This goes forward. int: Gary Hart Oh no, he's going to bring Jeep Swenson into the promotion! Bonus points for the irony of using a "final solution" against Fritz Von Erich. Extra. “Modern Day Warrior” Kerry Von Erich vs. “Gentleman” Chris Adams (1/11/85) I dug Gary Hart providing actual useful advice at ringside. I also dig how Kerry's backslide really feels like a legit finisher after he won the World Title with it. This was a blast, and it should move forward. int: Gary Hart at his office Another great Hart interview that should make it as an extra. The Dynamic Duo (“Gentleman” Chris Adams & “Handsome Halfbreed” Gino Hernandez) vs. Billy Jack Haynes & Kevin Von Erich (1/25/85) Good match, but we've seen much better. int: Jim Cornette w/ Midnight Express More extra material from Cornette. Mike Von Erich receiving his PWI award; Jake Roberts comes out and smashes the trophy - Ft Worth Say what you will about Jake, he's a better judge of wrestling talent than the PWI folks are. Mike Von Erich vs. Jake “The Snake” Roberts (1/25/85) This actually wasn't bad. Jake took the same approach to working Mike as Gino did, and Mike sells pretty well for Jake and has mildly better looking offense than usual. I don't know who you blame for that finish, though. That was bullshit even by World Class standards. Billy Jack/Rip Oliver confrontation - Ft Worth This works. I wasn't a huge Billy Jack Haynes fan, but he seemed acceptable in his role. American Heavyweight Title: “Modern Day Warrior” Kerry Von Erich © vs. “Gentleman” Chris Adams (2/8/85) There's a clip in the middle of the bout. I don't know if we missed that much. Otherwise, not much more to add. This was a great, great match, and it easily moves forward.
