Posted October 29, 200816 yr comment_5435437 DVD 11 5/30/86: Antonio Inoki vs. Seiji Sakaguchi - This was a pretty slow exchange of mat holds, topped by a weird ending. Just as the match started to heat up, Sakaguchi lifted Inoki for an atomic drop but crotched him on the top rope. Inoki tumbled outside for the countout. I wondered if it was some kind of unexpected turn. But no, Sakaguchi seemed contrite after. IWGP Tag Team Titles: Tatsumi Fujinami & Kengo Kimura © vs. Dick Murdoch & The Masked Superstar - So-so effort from all involved. Kimura's FIP sections were poorly constructed and undramatic. Fujinami didn't do much, period. Even Murdoch seemed to mail it in. 6/6/86: Matches also on Classics 233 Akira Maeda vs. Umanosuke Ueda - It seemed almost cruel to throw the old man in with Mr. Surly. Sure enough, Maeda busted him up pretty bad with kicks. But Ueda grabbed an object from ringside and choked the young bastard down. Not a nomination but a diverting five minutes. Antonio Inoki & Seiji Sakaguchi vs. Andre the Giant & The Assassin - I can't take no more Andre v. Inoki. IWGP Tag Team Titles: Tatsumi Fujinami & Kengo Kimura © vs. Jimmy Snuka & The Wild Samoan - Another blah title defense from Fujinami/Kimura, who seemed to have lost a bit of their mojo from '85. Of course, they might not have been able to do much anyway with Snuka and the Samoan, who seemed to fetishize dull clubbering and loose chinlocks. And it went more than 20 minutes! Shitty pair of episodes on this disk.
