Posted November 6, 200816 yr comment_5435555 Iceman King Parsons vs. Maniac Mark Lewin (7/26/85) This is JIP and a better than average Lewin match because Iceman was so fun. Gang would get involved for the DQ. Texas Tornado Match: Kerry & Kevin Von Erich vs. The Dynamic Duo (“Gentleman” Chris Adams & “Handsome Halfbreed” Gino Hernandez) (7/26/85) The Duo has all four belts with them and this is a key rematch for this feud from 4 months earlier. This is a wild all-action match with all four men just beating each other’s ass with stiff strikes and brawling around the whole ringside area. There was a great spot where the Duo had sleepers on the Von Erichs when both would counter it into stereo iron claws. The crowd heat here was tremendous as this was a serious money feud that produced some great matches. Gino would hold Kevin up by the hair allowing Adams to pop him with the Superkick before a spike piledriver on the floor further injuring Kevin. Kerry would fight it out alone with discus punches as Kevin tried to get back in the ring until the numbers game caught up to him. Kevin was being helped to the back until he went apeshit and ran back to the ring attacking the Duo like a wildman. Duo then tuck tail and run through the back door as the crowd is insane. This is simply phenomenal and as slam dunk as it gets as far as a nomination. Could be a Top 5 match. Then we get highlights of Brian Adias winning the Texas title getting his hair cut by Gino as revenge. Next we get a promo by Gary Hart about Mark Lewin. “Modern Day Warrior” Kerry Von Erich vs. “Handsome Halfbreed” Gino Hernandez (7/26/85) Boy do the fans hate Gino as they heckle him on the way to the ring but Adams still gets love from the women. Kevin accompanies Kerry to the ring to offset Adams but they would end up brawling on the floor with Kevin throwing Adams out the back door but he would soon come back. Kerry is great dishing out the punishment here and Gino is also great in taking it with both men doing some similar stuff from previous matches but some new things like Gino giving Kerry a headbutt and hurting himself more along with Kerry breaking out a figure-four. Gino would lock in a sleeper for a while but Kerry would fight out of it before missing a dropkick. Gino would then go to his tights getting powder but threw it in Rick Hazzard’s eyes for the DQ. Of course Chris & Kevin would then jump in the ring for a wild brawl. Very fun stuff here as this feud was so fucking great. This goes on the block. 2 Ring No DQ Decision Match for the vacant American Tag Titles: The Fantastics (Bobby Fulton & Tommy Rogers) vs. The Midnight Express (“Loverboy” Dennis Condrey & “Beautiful” Bobby Eaton) (5/5/85) I have always been a fan of the matchup between these teams but this one had something different in that the Fants had Little John in their corner to go along with the 2 rings. You may remember John as Milt from Bachelor Party but he didn’t cut any balls off here. Cornette’s tuxedo is a must see. There is a referee for each ring and there is constant action. Eaton takes a high backdrop on the wooden planks on the grass that looked like it hurt. Rogers hits a beautiful dropkick off the top rope on Condrey for a nearfall. Eaton gets a steel chair and starts swinging like Babe Ruth with both Fants taking great shots but no blood. They do some great spots using the middle of the two rings with the Fants being bounced around like pinballs. Fants fight back though and Rogers hits an awesome powerslam that Buzz Sawyer would be proud of on Eaton for a nearfall. Eaton starts choking Rogers on top of David Manning, which brings Little John over and Condrey lays Fulton over the middle rope with Cornette bashing him in the head with the tennis racket to win the match. The referees then have a conference with Rick Hazzard raising the hand of Condrey but David Manning reverses the decision and gives the belts over to the Fants as Manning counted for one of the Fants as Hazzard counted for the MX. Shitty finish to a pretty damn good match but this has enough to go forward. Then we get a World Class highlight video to Shout by Tears for Fears. Definite extra material. Scott Casey, The Great Kabuki, & Iceman King Parsons vs. Killer Brooks, Maniac Mark Lewin, & One Man Gang (8/9/85) The heels come out to Helter Skelter by The Beatles which was so awesome. Pretty big clip in the middle of this as we go to break with Iceman coming back from a FIP segment and come back to Kabuki in the middle of one. There was some decent stuff in this but not a nomination and again Iceman made a match much better than what it was. Bruiser Brody would make his return to World Class after the match saving the faces and going after Lewin in a wild brawl. Brody’s return is extra material. Mike Von Erich vs. “Handsome Halfbreed” Gino Hernandez (8/9/85) Gino would slap Mike in the face to start the match which would cause Mike to go nuts attacking Gino who was selling like a motherfucker. Gino would tie Mike up in the ropes throwing down Bronko Lubich so he could go for the scissors but Mike gets away as Gino fights with Lubich before Mike returned using a steel chair. Very short match. Kevin Von Erich vs. “Gentleman” Chris Adams (8/9/85) This has a more methodical start than past matches but still both men are on the edge of going all out. There was some really good matwork here by both men and Kevin breaks out his fun headscissors spots. The action would pick up as Adams throws Kevin to the floor slamming into the table then trying to use a chair on him but Kevin would reverse it hitting Adams with the chair. Kevin suplexed Adams back in the ring then went for the iron claw but Adams held him at bay. Adams then took control but Kevin would play possum letting Adams climb up top to miss a splash setting up the iron claw. Gino would then show up with a strap and started laying in the shots on Kevin for the DQ. They would give Kevin a clothesline with the strap until Mike made the save. Fun stuff and this felt like more of an extra to me than a nomination. Then we get clips of the Von Erichs vs. Brooks/Gang/Lewin on 8/5 in Fort Worth. Then we get the Mike Von Erich health update after his shoulder surgery where he got the Toxic Shock Syndrome after the surgery. This was the beginning of his end and just a terrible thing to happen. “Gentleman” Chris Adams vs. Scott Casey (8/23/85) This starts out normal but has a cool spot for the time as Adams hits a cross body block on Casey who would fall over the top rope with him landing on the ringside table. Adams then hit Casey with a chair and slammed him on the floor before posing in the ring. Casey would then grab the steel chair and pounded Adams twice before coming back into the ring where he started pounding on him. Casey would even break out a piledriver but Adams got his foot on the rope while being pinned. Adams would make his own comeback though but as he tried to suplex Casey, he got caught in the sleeper before attacking Gino who got on the apron. Adams would eventually hit the Superkick before climbing up top when Sunshine would shake the ropes allowing Adams to fall on his nuts. Gino would then chase Sunshine around allowing Rick Hazzard to call the match a no contest. The Duo then started cutting Casey’s hair before Sunshine started spraying them with aerosol. This was great fun and easily Casey’s best showing here even with the crappy finish. This goes on the block. Iceman King Parsons vs. Jack Victory (8/30/85) Jack wasn’t as good as he would be a year later but shows potential.
November 19, 200816 yr comment_5435830 1. Iceman Parsons vs Mark Lewin The highlight for me was Hart's 2 bumps off of Ice's headbutt. I also liked how Ice ButButted OMG, and Lewin. A no vote. I do like how Hart is the one responsible to wake people from Lewin's Sleeper.Lewin is insane so he doesn't care if his opponent dies. 2. Kerry + Kevin Von Erich vs Chris Adams + Gino Hernandez I thought this was an all action brawl that moves forward. I dug the double Von Erich elbow drops. The spike piledriver on the floor to Kevin was great. Kevin's selling od the piledriver I liked. I dug how Kevin was being helped to the back, but decide to come running back to save Kerry was good drama, and popped the crowd big. A definite nomination. - highlights Gino Hernandez vs Brian Adias; Adias wins Texas title - Ft Worth int: Brian Adias; Chris Adams + Gino Hernandez attack Adias and cut his hair - Ft Worth This is the most fire Adias has shown. This is also a great piece of business where the Duo take a chunk of Adias hair. I loved this build to the hair match. Definite Extra. We should show clips of all the faces getting a trim from the Duo so people will get a better understanding on why all the faces get to take a liitle chunk from the Dynamic Duo at Cotton Bowl. int: Gary Hart 3. Kerry Von Erich vs Gino Hernandez This was solid. Both wrestlers have had better matches with one another. I was more interested in what Kevin and Adams were doing on the outside though. I vote no as a nomination. 4. Fantastics vs Midnight Express - 2 ring match; Texas Stadium This had a lot of neat stuff in it. I had a problem following what was happening though. Because of the 2 ring format you missed a lot of the action. On top of that the timing was off on the finish so it looked like the refs screwed the MX.I vote no. 5. One Man Gang, Mark Lewin, + Killer Brooks vs Scott Casey, Iceman Parsons, + Kabuki Parson's mimmicking of Lewin was awesome. OMG's piledriver was great. I liked this, but not for a nomination. The return of Bruiser Brody was epic. The crowd popped big. 6. Mike Von Erich vs Gino Hernandez No 7. Kevin Von Erich vs Chris Adams A move that I've been diiging is Adam's headbutt to the mid-section. Adams was real good working Kevin's arm. I liked how we got some mat wrestling then it morphed into a brawl. The fight for the claw was great. Adams would fuck up and Kevin would capitalize with the claw. I thought this was damn good, but not quite a nomination. 8. Kerry, Kevin, + Mike Von Erich vs One Man Gang, Mark Lewin, + Killer Brooks - Ft Worth JIP The heat for the Lewin beatdown of Kerry was off the charts. Kerry was pretty great in the FIP role. This was a little too much JIP for me. A good match, but not a nomination for me. - segment regarding Mike Von Erich's health This is just creepy and sad. 9. Chris Adams vs Scott Casey Solid, but short.Postmatch Casey gets a trim.Potential extra. - Iceman Parsons promo Fun 10. Iceman Parsons vs Jack Victory We get a clip here. This isn't a nomination.
February 15, 201015 yr comment_5447860 Iceman King Parsons vs. Maniac Mark Lewin (7/26/85) Bill Mercer wants to see Kabuki vs. Lewin, and while Kabuki is on a roll at this point, if Iceman can't get a good match out of Lewin, I don't have a whole lot of faith in Kabuki doing it, either. Texas Tornado Match: Kerry & Kevin Von Erich vs. The Dynamic Duo (“Gentleman” Chris Adams & “Handsome Halfbreed” Gino Hernandez) (7/26/85) Not much more to add about this one. Fantastic. It moves forward. int: Brian Adias; Chris Adams + Gino Hernandez attack Adias and cut his hair - Ft Worth Good promo, great angle. Extra material. “Modern Day Warrior” Kerry Von Erich vs. “Handsome Halfbreed” Gino Hernandez (7/26/85) I actually thought this wasn't that good. Agreed with shoe that I was more interested in what was happening outside the ring than what was happening inside it. Kerry looked actively bad here. His figure-four looked better than Shawn Michaels', but that's not saying much. Also, they make a big point of reminding Kevin and Chris (and the audience) that if they get involved in the match, their man will be DQ'd. Then they get involved in the match and nothing really comes of it. Brilliant. I say "no". 2 Ring No DQ Decision Match for the vacant American Tag Titles: The Fantastics (Bobby Fulton & Tommy Rogers) vs. The Midnight Express (“Loverboy” Dennis Condrey & “Beautiful” Bobby Eaton) (5/5/85) It was a bit hard to follow at the beginning and the end (which, as shoe noted, made it look like the Fantastics won for no reason). Also, Little John ends up getting metaphorically castrated, as after all the build-up for him as the Fants' equalizer, he proves completely unable to counteract Cornette's interference. Still, the body of the match was really strong, and I did enjoy Cornette's interaction with Little John at ringside, so I'm gonna go ahead and second this as a nomination. World Class "Shout" music video Extra. Scott Casey, The Great Kabuki, & Iceman King Parsons vs. Killer Brooks, Maniac Mark Lewin, & One Man Gang (8/9/85) Good, but not a nomination. Kevin Von Erich vs. “Gentleman” Chris Adams (8/9/85) Too long to be an extra. I'd nominate it, but there are stronger matches with these two. - segment regarding Mike Von Erich's health Well, it's a shoe-in extra for the "disgusting promotional tactics" disc, that's for sure. “Gentleman” Chris Adams vs. Scott Casey (8/23/85) I agree with shoe that this makes a better extra than a nomination. - Iceman Parsons promo Gotta love that Parsons remembers to shuck and jive even when working the bag.
