Posted December 1, 200816 yr comment_5436081 DVD #7 4/2/82 - Matches also on Classics 122 Tiger Mask vs. Steve Wright - Wright was a blast with all his funky Euro matwork and counters. I enjoyed him more than the match, which featured a lot of clever one upsmanship but very little drama. It's still worth moving forward, given that a lot of the fun of this project comes from unearthing little-seen but excellent workers. Andre the Giant vs. Killer Khan - Hell of a match here. Andre brought all kinds of cool touches. He stepped over the top rope and booted Khan in the stomach, all in one motion. When accused of choking on a sleeper, he applied the hold on the ref to demonstrate its legality. Then, he showed what a real choke looked like on Khan. He also sold the damage from Khan's legwork masterfully. One thing I never quite got about Andre, based on his WWF work, was how expressive a performer he could be. He almost never lost, but they had the NJ fans believing it might happen as Andre hobbled around and Khan drilled him with his double Mongolian chops. When Andre finally caught him, the air went out of the place, but in a good way. Slam dunk nomination and the best match I've seen between these guys. 4/9/82 Andre the Giant vs. Rusher Kimura - Squash. Dick Murdoch/Dusty Rhodes vs. Killer Khan/Tiger Toguchi - Fun to see Dick and Dusty back together. But this one spilled to the floor for the double DQ pretty quickly. Tiger Mask/Inoki/Fujinami vs. Wright/Muraco/Superstar - The first 10 minutes were very entertaining as Wright demonstrated more of his unique stylings and Muraco showed a surprising chemistry with Tiger Mask. But the second half of the match lacked focus. I felt like they were out there to fill 20 minutes rather than to convey anything about the performers or match-ups.
