Posted December 29, 200816 yr comment_5436541 Missing Link vs. Chris Adams Gary Hart & Chris Adams Interview Nothing much going on here, though the interviews quietly builds up Adams' impending heel turn. Missing Link & Killer Khan vs. Kevin & Kerry Von Erich () Good while it lasted. Missing Link vs. Magnum TA OK but short. Buck Zumhof, Kerry & Mike Von Erich vs. Jake the Snake, Gino Hernandez, & ??? ??? is Chris Adams, and as such, his introduction probably merits inclusion as an extra. The rest of the match is unremarkable, though. Chris Adams vs. Iceman King Parsons Good but not great match. It's usually said that Adams' heel turn was pretty sudden, and they do a good job playing that up here. Adams is still signing autographs for the fans - the ones who still want his autograph anyway - and he wrestles the match cleanly, only starting to get frustrated with Iceman near the end. Finish is pretty great in fitting that theme. Adams blows his stack and ties up Parsons in the ropes. Before he can do anything, the ref is able to convince him to back off, but the very second he gets free, Adams blasts him with the superkick to get the pin. Gino Hernandez vs. Mike Von Erich Meh. Stell Mae Interview (attacked by Gino Hernandez & Andrea) Gino Hernandez Interview interrupted by Sunshine The above interview is replayed almost in full during the latter. Latter is better than former, but don't know if either necessarily need to be included. Killer Khan vs. Skip Young When exactly did the Freebirds get back from the WWF? If this was Gordy's first appearance back, which it might be from the looks of things, I could see this going on as an extra. Skandor Akbar Interview w/ Freebirds interrupting This too. David Manning - Buddy Roberts altercation David Manning vs. Buddy Roberts (Lights Out match) These appear to be out of order. The match is a slam dunk extra, to the point that I was almost tempted to nominate it as a proper match were it not so short. David Manning is a guy I've really been digging as a ref, but I had no reason to expect he'd be a really good worker, too. Lo and behold, he throws some really awesome kicks and punches, even has a nice dropkick, he times everything really well, hits most of his offense on short comebacks and spends most of the match trying to work his way from behind so as not to overshadow the full-time wrestler. He sorta works like the world's best possible Cherry, if that means anything. Roberts is his usual awesome self, his arm is tied more to his side than behind his back, so he gets to put Manning in front facelocks and choke him with the rope. The pre-match post-match altercation has Roberts challenging Manning to a rematch with a 10-minute time limit, and I really come away from the match feeling like these two have an amazing 10-minute match in them. Terry Gordy & Michael Hayes vs. Missing Link & Killer Khan Texas Tornado match that's a bit on the short side with a screwy finish, but it was really action packed while it lasted. Has to be at least an extra if it isn't worthy of inclusion as an actual match. Missing Link vs. Kerry Von Erich (in Hawaii) (5:00) "Championship Wrestling from Hawaii"? OK, somebody help me out. Is this a separate promotion from Polynesian Pro? Is there an outlaw Hawaiian promotion we have to keep an eye out for? Features the announce team of Dunbar and...um...not Dunbar, who are basically the team of Don West and Don West. It really just illustrates how much better of an announcer Don West is than Mike Tenay, as the West/West team seems to function better than any announce team Tenay has ever been a part of, really putting over Link as a crazy badass and Kerry as someone not to be fucked with. Match is really fun, but too short. Blackjack Mulligan & Joe Savoldi vs. Kevin Sullivan & Mark Lewin I have no idea what's going on here. The announcers speak in hushed tones the whole time, and this probably isn't the match where you want to be aping Kent Walton. I think I make out something about them announcing the Maine athlete of the year later? My mother and her family are all from Maine, and I've spent a fair amount of time there, and I like to think I know a few things about the state. I also like to think I know a few things about wrestling, and to that end, if there had ever been a Maine wrestling scene of any note, I'd have known about it. Then again, with these four, you would logically think "Florida", so who knows. Match is OK, Salvodi eats the post like a champ near the beginning, and Woman is at ringside and gets into a brawl with a fat lady in the audience near the end. There are some other neat bits in there, but a lot of the brawling feels kinda tepid, too. Eventually they just cut to the end and announce that the match has been thrown out for whatever reason.
December 30, 200816 yr comment_5436551 Sounds like Polypro with a fake name for some reason. A bunch of WCCW guys worked there at the time and Dunbar Wakayama was one of their announcers (with Ripper Collins).
October 20, 200916 yr comment_5445252 Missing Link vs. Chris Adams Nothing to it. Missing Link & Killer Khan vs. Kevin & Kerry Von Erich This was a fun brawl, but too short for a nom. Still it was a blast while it lasted. Missing Link vs. Magnum TA Kinda neat to see Magnum here. I bet he would have gotten over huge in Texas. Buck Zumhof, Kerry & Mike Von Erich vs. Jake the Snake, Gino Hernandez, & ??? Adams joins the heels here. This was did nothing for me. Chris Adams vs. Iceman King Parsons I liked this more than SLL. The finish was a great exclmation point on his heel turn. This is worked in a total face vs. face style bout till that finish. I thought the mat work was fun with both exchanging arm locks and reversals several times. thought the heat was great here. Plus I This was just a fun bout and a low end nom from me. Gino Hernandez vs. Mike Von Erich Skip it. Killer Khan vs. Skip Young Nothing to this bought. David Manning - Buddy Roberts altercation David Manning vs. Buddy Roberts (Lights Out match) This is all sorts of awesome. I'm tempted to nominate this too. Manning in my opinion would have been a great heel manager in Texas if he would have turned on the V.E. Someone like him would have been huge with Rude when he came in. Just a super fun bout with both men looking great. Roberts looks like a total pro and manning was great in his role. Extra, but I so want to nominate this. Terry Gordy & Michael Hayes vs. Missing Link & Killer Khan This was a fun brawl that the crowd was hot for. This feels more like an extra than a nom. It just didnt last long enough. The blood was well done as a set up for Bam Bam and Khan.
December 9, 200915 yr comment_5446283 World Class TV Title: "Gentleman" Chris Adams © vs. The Missing Link (9/24/84) I fucking loved Link's completely over the top selling of the Superkick early in the match as he took 10 bumps on the floor from it. This ended up leading to Hart vs. Akbar which was fun stuff since Hart was playing babyface and was awesome here. Adams & Hart cut a promo afterwards and there is some real subtle hints shown here that a heel turn is coming. This is a definite extra. Kerry & Kevin Von Erich vs. Killer Khan & The Missing Link (9/10/84) This was short but very fun with the screwy DQ ending of course and a wild brawl afterwards. Magnum TA vs. The Missing Link (10/1/84) Maggie Mae makes his Fort Worth debut here and I agree shoe he would've been a great addition to World Class. Magnum replacing Adams on the babyface side would've been awesome if it had happened. The match was okay. "Gentleman" Chris Adams, "Handsome Halfbreed" Gino Hernandez, & Jake "The Snake" Roberts vs. Kerry & Mike Von Erich & "Rock n Roll" Buck Zumhofe (10/1/84) Adams ending up being the heels mystery partner here 3 days after he turned on Kevin at the Sportatorium. The Adams introduction is a definite extra and the match itself was anticlimatic until it finally broke down into a 6-way brawl with Jake laying out Zumhofe with a DDT making it a handicap match until Kevin showed up in street clothes to run wild on Adams. We need the start and the end as extra material for sure. World Class TV Title: "Gentleman" Chris Adams © vs. Iceman King Parsons (10/8/84) Adams still signs autographs for his fans here as he himself hasn't fully accepted his heelness yet and shakes Iceman's hand before the match as Iceman mouths to him that there is no problem with them. We get some really fun matwork early from both Adams & Iceman featuring Adams using his MUGAness to get in and out of holds. It was really fun watching both men try to outwork each other in every way even with their schtick such as Adams doing his cartwheel with Iceman following up with his dancing. Adams then gets pissed and turns up the heelness by slingshotting Iceman into the ringpost but Iceman would bounce back hitting a sunset flip and an inside cradle for nearfalls. Adams then ties up Iceman in the ropes Andre style but backs off when he tries to him only to nail him with the Superkick when he breaks free. This was tremendous and one of the best matches I've seen over the past couple of days. Definite nomination. "Handsome Halfbreed" Gino Hernandez vs. Mike Von Erich (10/8/84) Gino rules but even he can't save this one from not being good and of course Stella Mae shows up. Then we get more of the Gino/Stella/Sunshine/Nicola saga. Killer Khan vs. Sweet Brown Sugar (11/5/84) This match was nothing but a backdrop for the return of Terry Gordy from the WWF who pounds on Khan & Akbar. Gordy had been gone from the WWF for a month before returning. Extra material. Then we go back a couple of months to 8/13/84 where Akbar and his crew are cutting a promo on the Freebirds who show up for a wild brawl. Extra material. Then we get clips of Manning & Buddy Roberts from 7/30/84 with one hand tied behind his back and this is yet another extra. Texas Tornado Match: The Fabulous Freebrids (Terry "Bamm Bamm" Gordy & Michael Hayes) vs. Killer Khan & The Missing Link (8/13/84) This is criminally short but wild as hell with juice flowing from Gordy & Khan and a definite extra. Then we get some random Hawaii & ICW action.
