The show starts with promos by Black Gordman & Relampago Leon.

Billy Robinson vs. Relampago Leon (April 1981)

Leon hangs with the legendary Robinson on the mat and this was a decent match. Robinson gets the win on a great reversal of a double wristlock.

Handicap Match: Tully Blanchard vs. El Tejano & Ray Zarati (April 1981)

Yet another handicap match featuring Tully. Scott Casey who was on commentary would have enough and he made his way into the ring pounding on Tully. Tank Patton would then show up and pounded Casey with his cast before getting Tully out of the ring.

Chief Wahoo McDaniel & Ivan Putski vs. “Continental Lover” Eddy Mansfield & Tank Patton (April 1981)

Wahoo is on fire here just throwing chops on both heels before being neutralized by Patton’s cast. Putski would get the tag and took some shots before tagging Wahoo back in who would throw 3 great dropkicks which was awesome. The fans are going nuts for Wahoo as the heels would get the advantage again working over both Wahoo & Putski who would still put up a fight as both men were laying in some chops. They would knock the heels to the floor as TV time runs out. I liked this a whole helluva lot more than I thought I would and I think this should go on the block as a low-end nomination even with the draw finish.

Then we get promos by Casey, Wahoo, & Putski.

Scott Casey vs. El Fantastico (April 1981)

Squash.

Chavo Guerrero vs. Black Gordman (April 1981)

Billy Robinson is in Gordman’s corner and of course he would get involved, as Gordman would chunk Chavo to the floor with the brawl beginning. Fun while it lasted.

Then we get promos by Mansfield, Patton, & Tully.

The next show starts with Dory Funk Jr. along with Scott Casey promises to get revenge against Tully Blanchard for injuring Terry Funk’s ear.

Bruiser Brody, Tiger Conway Jr., & Bobby Duncum vs. Jose Guerra, Kelly Kiniski, & Tank Patton (September 1981)

That’s quite the babyface team for sure. Poor Guerra just gets destroyed by the faces.

Nick Bockwinkel vs. “Ragin Bull” Manny Fernandez (September 1981)

Bock was supposed to face Terry Allen but he would bury him in a promo so Bull took his place. This had some great back and forth action early with both men looking really solid trading quick nearfalls. Bock would throw some great knee smashes in Manny's ribs to weaken him for a backbreaker. Bock would continue to work on the back and an old cut on Manny's head would open up so we had juice. Manny would make a fiery comeback using some great punches that Bock sold very well. Manny would hit his flying cross chop for a nearfall and Bock would leave the ring but Manny would suplex him back in from the apron for another nearfall. Manny would then lock in the sleeper and had him on the mat but the TV time would run out giving Manny a big rub as this would build him up for a world title shot. This was supposed to be a 10:00 draw but it ended up being 8 minutes instead but still a very good match and I'm throwing it on the block.

Handicap Match: Ken Patera vs. Henry Garcia & El Tejano (September 1981)

Patera had just walked out of Georgia Championship Wrestling with the Georgia Heavyweight Title after refusing to job to Tommy Rich so now he’s here before going back to the AWA.

Then we get promos from Tiger Conway Jr., Bobby Duncum, & Manny Fernandez.

Gino Hernandez vs. Tom Prichard (September 1981)

Gino is great here and Prichard gives him a fight.

Dory Funk Jr. vs. Dick Slater (September 1981)

This is as close as you get to seeing Dory work against his brother in a match since Slater was a Terry clone at times. Dory throws some wicked forearm shots here with Slater just taking them like a man and dishing out his own shots as well. We would get a double collision with Slater being knocked to the floor which would bring out Tully Blanchard to attack Dory with the numbers game going over Dory until Scott Casey evens the odds. Tully & Slater then promise revenge in a post-match promo. Fun stuff.

Billy Robinson vs. Relampago Leon (April 1981)

Very good match, but a bit of a letdown. After the Leon/Ramirez match, you really want to see these two rip up the mat. Instead, Robinson blows your mind, but Leon looks like he's kinda just along for the ride. He doesn't look bad or anything, but you get the sense Robinson could've had this match with just about anyone.

Handicap Match: Tully Blanchard vs. El Tejano & Ray Zarati (April 1981)

Tully seems like an odd guy to put in handicap matches, but this actually works, as he wrestles it more like a gauntlet, taking out Tejano and then beating on Zarati. Both faces looked good, and this was a really good match. Tully is being a jerk (shocking, I know), and refuses to pin Zarati when he has him beat, leading to Scott Casey getting in the faces' corner and Zarati somehow tagging him in after escaping Tully's clutches. The referee seems to be OK with this, and doesn't call for the bell until after Tank Patton saves Tully's hide and gets him out of there.

Chief Wahoo McDaniel & Ivan Putski vs. “Continental Lover” Eddy Mansfield & Tank Patton (April 1981)

Well, if you ever wanted to see the one great Ivan Putski match, this is it. Putski actually acquits himself rather well here. He doesn't lay in quite the same beating that the Chief does, but it is a pretty nice beating nonetheless. I think the real star of the match was Mansfield, though. Great cowardly heel shtick, loved his defensive posturing at the beginning of the match while clearly cowering away from Putski. Patton didn't do much, but he didn't do anything wrong. I'll second this as a low-end nom.

Bruiser Brody, Tiger Conway Jr., & Bobby Duncum vs. Jose Guerra, Kelly Kiniski, & Tank Patton (September 1981)

This was a whole lot of nothing.

Nick Bockwinkel vs. “Ragin Bull” Manny Fernandez (September 1981)

Bockwinkel is one of my personal favorite wrestlers. The pre-match stuff alone is almost enough to seal this as a nomination, and the action-packed match takes it the rest of the way. Maybe the best bout I've seen from Southwest yet.

Handicap Match: Ken Patera vs. Henry Garcia & El Tejano (September 1981)

Patera seems to make more sense as a guy in a handicap match, and this is worked as a more traditional handicap match accordingly. Unfortunately, it's not as good as Tully's match, but it's over pretty quickly, so I suppose it doesn't really matter.

Gino Hernandez vs. Tom Prichard (September 1981)

Let's give it up for the jobbers of Southwest. These are some of the un-wimpiest wimpy matches I've ever seen. Prichard looks great hanging with Gino here, but you never walk away from these not knowing who the real star is.

Dory Funk Jr. vs. Dick Slater (September 1981)

Good bout with a neat post-match angle.
