Bruiser Brody & “Mr. Unpredictable” Dick Slater vs. Hacksaw Duggan & “Bruiser” Bob Sweetan (3/16/82)

 

This is a taped match from Hemisfair Arena. Brody & Slater are quite the team and if they win the match here they get 5 minutes with Buck Robley. Brody & Slater start off kicking ass until we get a double collision with Slater & Duggan allowing the heels to work over Slater inside and outside the ring and Slater is effective as the FIP. Brody would get the hot tag and starts firing away on Duggan before the 4-way brawl starts up as we have a ref bump soon thereafter. Robley brings a steel chair in the ring but hits Duggan by mistake with Brody getting the pin. Robley would then jump Brody starting their 5 minutes and he constantly goes for a black box he brought to the ring but Brody would cut him off. Brody beats Robley bloody until he goes for the black box where he brings out a jar before Duggan & Sweetan jump him. Robley then opens the jar and blinds Brody with the cream (Freebirds haircream) until Slater makes the save. Brody is great here selling the pain he is going through as he runs wild in the crowd like his Japanese entrances and this blinding allowed him to go on tour with All-Japan and Robley as well since he was suspended. The match was pretty good and the whole Robley thing afterwards made it even better and I think this whole thing goes on the block.

This was a hell of a fight, and the post-match angle makes it even better. I guess Brody selling wasn't just a World Class thing, it was a Texas thing, as he really lets Robley dish out a beating on him even before the mysterious black box comes into play. Easy nomination.
