Posted March 30, 200916 yr comment_5438219 Adrian Adonis & Tully Blanchard vs. Jerry “The King” Lawler & “Bruiser” Bob Sweetan (1/16/83) We miss the start of the match but it doesn’t look we missed much and it’s always great seeing Lawler work outside of Memphis. As you could guess there were some great punches here especially on the face side as both heels ate some tough ones from Lawler & Sweetan. Tully & Adonis both bump and sell big for the faces with Tully especially taking a bump from the ring to the ringside table after an atomic drop. Lawler would go for a piledriver on Tully before Adonis would come in to attack him from behind which would begin the heel control section. Lawler plays FIP here which wasn’t the norm for him but this is outside Memphis and takes a pounding from the heels. I loved Adonis rolling off his neck after giving Lawler a suplex to get a cover for a nearfall. Lawler would catch Tully with a fist as he jumped off the middle rope before countering a Tully piledriver attempt with help from Sweetan. Lawler would then counter another piledriver attempt of his own by falling back on Tully for a nearfall leading to Adonis tagging back in. Adonis would miss a diving body press off the middle rope allowing Lawler to get the hot tag to Sweetan setting up a 4-way brawl featuring some great bumping from the heels. Tully would chunk Sweetan to the floor setting up a double-team on Lawler where they would go for a spike piledriver but Sweetan would jump off the top rope to save him for the DQ. The brawl would continue after the match before the heels left the ring. I hate that top rope DQ finish but this was a damn good match and a solid nomination.
May 7, 200916 yr comment_5439205 Tully/Adonis v Lawler/Sweetan I liked how the heels were going after Sweetan's neck from the angle from T.V was good follow up. I thought the heels were great with their stooging. The heeling behind the refs back was well done. Lawler was great in the FIP role. The heat on Lawler is awesome. The crowd is getting hot. The punches were great here. A shit finish, but fuck was this good. Lawler was so good in his selling. A nomination.
