WCCW Digest: 7/83 - 9/83

Chris Adams vs Terry Gordy - 7/15/1983

This bout has been discussed elsewhere.

Von Erichs vs Hayes/Roberts/Garvin - 7/29/1983

This has also been talked about.

Von Erichs vs Freebirds - 8/12/1983

This is another in a super heated great bout. I loved the confederate soldier get up. I also loved Kevin's pre match promo as well. This was worked more in the traditional FIP, and face shines spots. Of course we got the awesome snug work from both sides. We also got a great finish that got Robert's head gear gimmick over. This is a nomination.

Kerry Von Erich vs Buddy Roberts - 8/19/1983

This has been talked about elsewhere.

Bruiser Brody vs Terry Gordy - 9/2/1983

Also, been talked about.

Kerry Von Erich vs Michael Hayes - 9/5/1983 (Country whipping match)

Fuck this was awesome. With some just great shots. It was short and sweet with just balls to the wall action. We got a great finish from this too. Nomination.

David Von Erich vs Terry Gordy - 9/5/1983

This was just an awesome match. The first 2 falls were just a great example of what wrestling is all about. The 2 finishes of the first 2 falls were awesome. This had a big time heavy weight bout feel to it with Gordy's punches and elbows looking devestating. I liked DVE work on Bam Bams leg. Gordy's work on DVE back was well done, and then when he hurt him with the Oriental Spike he went to work on his neck. The 3rd fall finish was blah. Overall, this was so good and a slam dunk nomination.

Bruiser Brody vs Kamala - 9/5/1983

This was a lumberjack match. Both wrestlers work hard here and have a fun little brawl. I thought this was much better than the Abdullah/Brody cage match that was nominated earlier. With that said this doesn't get a nomination from me either. Brody was a bloody mess here. I loved Kamala's over sell of the dropkick. It seemed to drag at times, and the bout went just 8 or 9 minutes. The finish was bullshit and killed it as a nomination.

Von Erichs vs Freebirds - 9/5/1983

This is another great bout that goes on the block. We get an introduction of future superstar Mike V.E. This is another great battle between the teams. Kevin takes a beating because of his refusal to sell so he gets stiffed throughout.

Country Whipping Match: "Modern Day Warrior" Kerry Von Erich vs. Michael Hayes (9/5/83)

This is from the big Labor Day card in Fort Worth and this is one of the original whipping matches. Brody & Gordy are at ringside basically working as lumberjacks throwing their enemies back in the ring. These two just beat the fuck out of each other with the belts and their fists at a rapid pace with the fans going bonkers. Brody & Gordy would get involved at the end and the finishing sequence was great. There is a wild brawl afterwards including the debut of the ORIENTAL SPIKE!!! Definite nomination.

2 out of 3 falls for the Texas Heavyweight Title: David Von Erich © vs. Terry Gordy (9/5/83)

Gordy goes nuts on David at the bell and you can tell that this is going to be another war between the families. There was a ton of hatred being shown here by both men and they were beating the hell out of each other. Great back and forth action with Gordy using his new Oriental Spike to take care of David to win the 2nd fall. The stuff with Chris Adams & Roberts was fine as it built up Adams as a player in the feud and set up the finish which we didn't get to see the full finish only DVE schoolboying Gordy for the win. This was still awesome though and a definite nomination.

Lumberjack Match: Bruiser Brody vs. Kamala (9/5/83)

This again is a war from the bell which was expected from these two. Brody juices early and often and it's funny seeing a very young John Tatum as a lumberjack. Kamala was awesome here bumping and selling for Brody and these two really meshed well together as Brody had experience with Abby but Kamala was more athletic at this time. The crowd was really hot for Brody here especially when he made his comeback. The finish was screwy as Brody would get his ass kicked by the heel lumberjacks forcing a DQ but this was a Brody match so DQ's are the norm. The finish didn't bother me at all and I think this deserves a nomination for the blood and hatred.

World Class Six-Man Tag Titles: The Fabulous Freebirds (Terry "Bamm Bamm" Gordy, Michael Hayes, & Buddy Roberts) © vs. David, Kerry, & Kevin Von Erich (9/5/83)

Mike Von Erich shows up at ringside for this one and gets introduced as the next superstar before the match. This might not have been up to par with the previous two matches between the families but this was still tremendous and it lived up to expectations as being a hate filled stiffly fought match. Gordy broke out a sweet somersault senton here as well as using the Oriental Spike again on Kerry leading to the finish and this show really got that move over. Again this was awesome and a definite nomination.
