Posted April 20, 200916 yr comment_5438634 Buddy Landell, Ken Lucas, & Ricky Morton vs. Tully Blanchard, Grenade Bowyer (Mike Boyette), & Killer Brooks (5/31/82) Good fast paced match with lots of quick tags keeping everything moving along great. Landell would play FIP and took a good beating before making a mad dash to get the hot tag by rolling all over the ring around the 3 heels before getting to Morton. Then we had a hot finish ending up with Landell getting the figure-four on Bowyer. I liked this one a lot and this goes on the block. Mongolian Stomper vs. Tom Jones (5/31/82) Stomper has Buck Robley in his corner here for his debut and he squashes Jones. Robley then cuts a promo with Stomper posing after the match. “Dirty” Dutch Mantell vs. Frank Monte (5/31/82) Dutchman is in here for a rare visit from Memphis. Monte puts up a good fight here but Dutch would prevail in the end and cuts a good promo after the match. Hacksaw Duggan vs. Bob Russell (5/31/82) Squash and Russell looks a lot like an American version of Takeshi Morishima. Cocoa Samoa vs. “Ragin Bull” Manny Fernandez (5/31/82) This was a fun match here with some nice counter wrestling by both men and it’s always fun watching Manny work as a heel. Cocoa got a good bit of offense here but the match would change after a collision of heads that would send Cocoa to the floor. Cocoa to his credit though came back and hit a cross body block off the top rope for a sloppy pinfall victory. Manny would then beat his ass after the match coming off the top rope with a diving kneedrop on Cocoa’s head. Fun stuff here but I’m not going to give this a nomination. Scott Casey vs. “Bruiser” Bob Sweetan (5/31/82) Sweetan is supposed to face Bruiser Brody here but he got an emergency phone call and you know what that means. After some back-and-forth action, Casey would give Sweetan a piledriver before a modified backbreaker for a nearfall with the fans going nuts but Duggan would run out for the DQ. The heels would then work over Casey with Sweetan dropping a couple of kneedrops off the top rope on Casey’s neck before the locker room cleared the ring. The next show starts with a promo by Tiger Jr. & Al Perez. Tiger Conway Jr. vs. Ninja Warrior (Mr. Pogo) (6/27/83) Tiger makes his return to Southwest here. Ninja gets some offense in here but this is more of a spotlight match for Tiger. Scott Casey cuts a promo about getting involved in a Stan Hansen vs. Larry Zbyszko match from San Antonio on 6/25/83 that we get clips of. Then we get clips of Casey vs. Tully from the same night. Jaggers & Luke Williams then cut a promo on the babyfaces. Eric Embry, Sweet Brown Sugar (Skip Young), & “Bruiser” Bob Sweetan vs. Ali Bey, “Hangman” Bobby Jaggers, & Luke Williams (6/27/83) Good back and forth action to start before Embry became the FIP which he was really good at during this period. Embry takes some pounding but would get the hot tag to Sugar before a 6-way brawl starts up that ends up with Embry being thrown over the top rope for the DQ. Fun little match. Cocoa Samoa vs. The Masked Mauler (6/27/83) Mauler is a big dude but Cocoa wins easily. Christopher Love then comes out very angry about the video being shown of Tully being pinned by Casey. Then we get clips of Tommy Rich vs. Buzz Sawyer from San Antonio on 6/25/83. Too bad this wasn’t a complete match because it looked great. Al Perez vs. Spoiler #2 (Tank Patton) (6/27/83) Perez wins very quickly. Then we get promos by Ann Gunkel of all people pimping the Georgia/SCW teamup and Sugar/Sweetan before they fell out.

Didn't exactly blow my mind. I'll pass on it. “Dirty” Dutch Mantell vs. Frank Monte (5/31/82) Always good to see Dutch in action. He puts on a fine showing here. Cocoa Samoa vs. “Ragin Bull” Manny Fernandez (5/31/82) Man, dig the lucha-fied chain wrestling of Cocoa Samoa and Manny Fernandez. Agreed that it falls short of a nomination, but still an interesting oddity of a match. Scott Casey vs. “Bruiser” Bob Sweetan (5/31/82) Match was pretty good while it lasted, and then Duggan runs in and post-match chaos ensues. Tiger Conway Jr. vs. Ninja Warrior (Mr. Pogo) (6/27/83) Really good bout. Weird to see Pogo back when he could go. He throws some real nasty chops here. Eric Embry, Sweet Brown Sugar (Skip Young), & “Bruiser” Bob Sweetan vs. Ali Bey, “Hangman” Bobby Jaggers, & Luke Williams (6/27/83) This was a blast, with all six guys bringing the fire. The heels were just vicious here. Ali Bey gave a standout performance, doing some fun comedy stooging early on and then stomping the daylights out of Embry later. Luke Williams was also constantly going after Embry. Sheepherder-era Luke and Butch have been accused of being over-romanticized...he certainly doesn't come off that way in this match, as he's constantly beating on Embry, choking him and biting him like a wild dog, never giving him a moment's rest. And as for Embry himself, he was a great fired-up underdog babyface. Looked great taking it to the heels early, and looked great as FIP later. Sweet Brown Sugar had great energy off the hot tag, and I loved his karate chop to Ali Bey's nose early in the match. When Bob Sweetan looks like the least guy in a six-man tag, you know you've got a great six-man tag on your hands. Slam dunk nomination.
