Ron Sexton vs. Tony Falk (1/21/85) Sexton is getting the push here and just works over Falk then cuts a promo after the match. Manuel Villalobos vs. Arandu (1/21/85) Manuel gets the win as Sexton does commentary then jumps Manuel after the match before Chicky Starr makes the save. Chicky Starr & “Bruiser” Bob Sweetan vs. Colibri & Randy Hoskins (1/21/85) Fairly long squash match and Starr was fun here. Then we get clips of Sweetan vs. Embry in a loser leaves town scaffold match from San Antonio on 1/20/85. Embry still is around until the end of January so he comes out and talks shit to Sweetan. Jonathan Boyd & The Maoris are out for a promo talking about winning the Southwest Tag Titles. Southwest Tag Titles: The Maoris (Tuduhi & Wakahi) © vs. Al Madril & Vinnie Valentino (1/21/85) I finally figured out that the Maoris are actually Tapu & Tio aka The Manchurians and these guys also were the New Guinea Headhunters in Continental. This match actually goes through a commercial which Southwest didn’t do much of but it was during a slow part of the match as the Maoris were controlling Madril. Maoris actually have control sections on both babyfaces with Valentino being the main FIP. Madril got the hot tag that wasn’t that hot that would start the 4-way brawl before Valentino was thrown to the floor. Madril then got a double-team stomach breaker by the Maoris for the pin. Rick Casey comes back out and we get clips of how he & Oske lost the tag titles to the Maoris on 1/20/85 in San Antonio. Rick Casey (Wendell Cooley) vs. The Mummy (1/21/85) Mummy attacks Casey at the bell and just pounds on him but Casey would fight back and hit the bulldog headlock for an apparent pin until the Maoris run in for the DQ. Handicap Match: Kevin Sullivan vs. Bob Garcia & Rudy Boy Gonzales (1/21/85) Sullivan comes to the ring with a fucking python on his shoulders then gives it to Boyd who already had one on his shoulders. Sullivan destroys these guys and cuts a promo after the match but is interrupted by Scott Casey. Then we get clips from their match in San Antonio on 1/20/85. Rick Casey then comes out with Scott and cuts a pissed off promo on Boyd.
March 28, 201015 yr comment_5448719 Sweetan/Embry scaffold match stuff OK, so Phil would like to see a scaffold match on every set where applicable. We all agree that the Fantastics & Simpson vs. RPMs & Embry match doesn't belong, but I thought the clips shown here looked really good. Kinda wish we had this in full. I mean, Dundee and Koko were great, and Embry looked really comfortable in both of the scaffold matches I've seen him in, but to see a guy the size of Bob Sweetan look so natural working a scaffold match - even if all we get is a couple of minutes - is astounding. Even if I didn't have Phil's request in the back of my mind, I'd put this and the surrounding promos forward as extras. Southwest Tag Titles: The Maoris (Tuduhi & Wakahi) © vs. Al Madril & Vinnie Valentino (1/21/85) Long and unremarkable. Casey & Oski/Maoris stuff They show clips of the Maoris winning the titles. Wakahi is really amazingly shitty. Rick Casey (Wendell Cooley) vs. The Mummy (1/21/85) For a multi-thousand year old dead guy, The Mummy was pretty spry. Good little match. Sullivan/Casey confrontation w/ bonus yelling from Rick Casey Great stuff, might be an extra.
