DVD #2

1/19/85 (taped 1/10)

Tiger Mask/Fuchi vs. Bulldogs - This had some good wrestling but suffered from a lack of any tried-and-true tag formula. It was all we'll do our stuff for a minute, now you guys do your stuff for a minute.

Choshu/Teranishi/Hamaguchi vs. Tenryu/Ishikawa/Inoue - Another good, heated tag match built around the animosity between Choshu and Tenryu. They went head to head a good bit, with each guy needing to be saved from the other's submission hold. The supporting guys really elevated the match as well with a lot of nice double teaming. I dug Inoue taunting Choshu by holding Teranishi in a scorpion and staring down his boss. Guys were flying all over the place at the end, and I didn't mind the DQ finish given that this was a feud builder. Solid nomination.

Baba/Jumbo/Kabuki vs. Singh/Rusher Kimura/Tsurumi - This was going OK but ended very abruptly after Baba hit a few moves on Tsurumi. Singh's disrespectful post-match beatdown on Baba seemed more important than anything in the match itself.

Bulldogs vs. Teranishi/Kuniaki Kobayashi - This was a little better than the Bulldogs tag from the previous episode, because Kobayashi was better than Misawa at this point and worked well with Teranishi. But again, it really suffered from my-turn, your-turn syndrome.

Jumbo/Fuchi/Ishikawa vs. Choshu/Killer Khan/Yatsu - Another good Choshu tag that featured the first extended contratemps between Riki and Jumbo. I was surprised how much punishment Jumbo took, but he didn't yet convey the same anger at Choshu's invasion as Tenryu, so this was a bit less intense than the six-man from the previous week. Fuchi was good in it, but it falls just on the wrong side of the nomination fence.

Baba/Kabuki vs. Singh/Tsurumi - Baba was at least fired up to get after the heels, but this wasn't much.
