Posted May 20, 200916 yr comment_5439720 DVD #4 2/16/85 (taped 2/5) Baba vs. Singh - This didn't suck as much as I expected. Singh got by with lots of low blows, sneaky weapons shots and chops to the throat. The crowd was way into everything Baba did. Not a nomination, but it didn't make we want to put my eyes out as I feared, Jumbo/Tenryu vs. Choshu/Saito - This definitely benefited from the hyper-charged atmosphere. The match mostly broke down into Choshu v. Tenryu and Jumbo v. Saito. I liked both match-ups a lot, but Will is right about the match ending just when it seemed set up for a hot finishing run. That makes sense given that it was more kindling for a long feud, but the lack of a closing section kept it from being ultimately satisfying. I agree with the lukewarm nomination. 2/23/85 Tiger Mask/Inoue vs. Kobayashi/Shinnichi Nakano - Some good little stretches between Inoue and Nakano, but this was still built around Misawa v. Kobayashi and their exchanges came off a little flat compared to their singles match. Decent match but no reason to push it forward, Tenryu/Ishikawa/Sato vs. Choshu/Yatsu/Hamaguchi - Middle-brow Choshu's Army tag. They kept things moving and the Choshu/Tenryu sections carried the usual heat. But there was a good six man on almost every show during this period, and nothing set this one apart. Baba/Jumbo/Fuchi vs. Bruiser Brody/Klaus Wallas/Killer Brooks - Brody actually sold for Baba. Match didn't go anywhere interesting, however.
