This is no exception. August 24, 1984 Strong Machine #1 & his manager confronts Antonio Inoki - I don’t know what this is about. Bob Backlund vs. Riki Choshu - I don’t want to kiss jdw’s ass or anything but Bob Backlund is pretty fucking great. In the Hogan-Inoki match, they would apply a hold and just fucking sit there. Every hold in the first ten minutes was its own little struggle. The first headscissors Choshu applies looked like it would rip Backlund’s ears off if he tried to squeeze out of it. Every hold, Backlund is twisting, contorting, finding pin attempts. He even finds a way to work in the deadlift signature spot in a way that seems completely natural. This was a super fun contest between one of my old favorites (Backlund) and one of my new favorites (Choshu). The countout ending sucks but we’ll see a lot of those on the set. I want this to move forward but not because I am sucking up to jdw. - Antonio Inoki in Pakistan Seiji Sakaguchi & Tatsumi Fujinami vs. Duke Myers & Roger Smith - This was ok but there are too many matches I want to see on the set before this. -
