Fujinami, Inoki 11/28/80 Better then the Hogan, Hansen match, but you got to give me a bunch of blood and insanity for an Ueda and Singh match to make a set Andre the Giant, Hangman v. Hulk Hogan, Stan Hansen 11/28/80 I enjoyed this a bunch, Andre has great charisma with both Hogan and Andre, he was super agile in this, bumping big and flying around. Including missing a giant splash. They did a great comedy spot which ends with Andre getting kicked in the butt. I am a big Andre mark so I might be overrating it, but I am going to nominate this. Ox Baker v. Inoki 11/28/80 Not much of a match, Baker isn’t very good Andre v. Hogan 12/5/80 Fun, but a little short, Hogan threw some stinky chair shots. Not as good as a tag. Kengo Kimura, Tatsumi Fujinami v. Kontaro Hoshino, Riki Choshu 12/5/80 Really fun juniors tag, I was loving the Fujinami v. Hoshino exchange, and Choshu’s amateur stuff is really good. Hot finish too This wasn’t a blow away match, but I am going to nominate it Bob Backlund, Antonio Inoki v. Ummoseke Ueda, Tiger Jeet Singh 12/5/80 Kind of dull, lots of Inoki selling nerve pinches Hulk Hogan v. Dusty Rhodes 12/9/80 Kind of awesome that this exists, I can’t really think of another time this match might have happened and it feels like the kind of thing which would be fantasy booked by a wrestling magazine. Match was fun with Dusty doing his shtick and breaking out a classic Dusty over the eye blade job. Not the kind of thing which will make a set but I am glad it turned up. Bob Backlund v. Stan Hansen 12/9/80 This wasn’t bad some okay arm work, and Hansen was fun, this felt like it was on its way to a low level nomination, but it had a bad finish with a Hogan run in. Will you are the big Backlund fan so check it out, but it falls short to me. Andre The Giant v. Antonio Inoki 12/9/80 This was pretty awesome, felt on the level of their best 70’s matches against each other. Inoki does some cool work on the arm, including a nifty keylock spot. Andre was so awesome at selling, when he fell it felt like the felling of an elephant. I would have liked a better finish, but this feels like a slam dunk
June 24, 200916 yr comment_5441102 Bob Backlund vs. Stan Hansen (12/9/80) - I wasn’t really digging the Backlund headlocks to begin with. I’ll be Backlund-critical and say that any work in the headlock was done completely by Hansen. Ther eis one spot where Bob is on the mat and about to get up and Hansen just drops an elbow on him and you see his head bounce off the mat. Nice. It was nice to see Bob work the arm and I always mark out when someone works Hansen’s arm or Choshu’s arm. You can work a dozen matches around avoiding the lariat and I would probably nominate them all. It doesn’t last long though. Hansen was really vicious here and I wasn’t feeling Backlund at all. I think Stan really brought it but this wasn’t Bob’s best performance. I’ll pass on this match but this was a big gold star for Hansen and a demerit for Bob. The sucky ending doesn’t really help things at all.
