These guys work really well together, I really liked their WWF set match. This is pretty similar, including a bunch of really cool bear hug reversals. Had a bit of a cop out finish, with Hogan getting Dqed for throwng Backlund over the rail. Still I liked this more then any of the other NJ Backlund, and since Will has his head up JDW’s ass, I will go ahead and nominate it

Bob Backlund vs. Hulk Hogan (6/3/80)

- Really dig the quick beginning with Hogan trying to strike first but getting swatted away by the quicker Backlund. I know Phil rolls his eyes at Backlund since he doesn’t have an invincible headbutt but Hogan and Bob were working in and out of the headlock really well. Also really smart for Hogan to break the headlock with a backbreaker that naturally leads to working on Backlund’s back with a bearhug. Pretty freaking good in my book. The match continues at a solid pace until Hogan tosses Backlund over the rail and goes back inside to celebrate … except Backlund comes in and sneaks in an atomic drop. Sweet. \ I have no problem moving this forward. Much better than that dismal Andre-Inoki match from the same set that I watched yesterday.

I have to give Backlund credit. He got Hogan to wrestle like no one else. The work in and out of the holds was smart and never dull. I really hated the finish though. It didn't seem to flow out of anything; it just cut the head off of a really good wrestling match. It left a bad enough taste in my mouth that I might push for this to be cut if it's competing for one of the last few slots. For now, I liked the body enough for it to move forward.
