Kerry Von Erich & Steve Simpson vs. Buddy Roberts & Iceman King Parsons

Bill Mercer actively soliciting charitable organizations on commentary is just sad. OK match, not much to it.

Kerry Von Erich vs. Al Perez (Cage Match for the WCWA World Heavyweight Title)

Gary Hart is in the cage, handcuffed to the top rope. He was supposed to be handcuffed to Fritz Von Erich, but Fritz had something that I assure you was in no way whatsoever supposed to be construed as a heart attack, and thus was unavailable. Good match. Perez was pretty bland, but Kerry kept things interesting.

Kerry & Kevin Von Erich vs. Terry Gordy & Buddy Roberts (Badstreet Match)

This was on Schneider Comp #2 and was the first WCCW match I ever saw. It holds up really nicely, and should make an easy nomination. Worked 2-0n-2 instead of the usual 3-on-3 for Badstreet matches, this feels a bit more like a wrestling match than these matches usually do, complete with Kevin having an FIP section and Gordy having some nice throws (belly-to-belly, suplex on the floor, piledriver, backdrop, all look great). But there is still plenty great out of control brawling, lots of nasty belt shots from Kerry (who wears an ill-advised cammo vest cut off at the midriff into battle), great frantic Kevin brawling (loved him crawling under the bottom rope to take shots at Roberts on the outside), and classic Gordy/Roberts brutality. Match ends in a non-finish when pretty much everyone on the roster runs in, but that shouldn't be held against it too much.

Kerry Von Erich vs. Taurus Bulba

Wait...Taurus Bulba is supposed to suck, right? 'Cause I think that's what I've usually heard about him, but thought he looked pretty good here. Actually, match itself was pretty awesome, and after mulling it over, I thought I'd give it a nomination. Like I said, Bulba looked good, his offense was rough and he came off as a credible unstoppable force for Kerry's immovable object. Still, it's really Kerry's match. I liked the whole story of Kerry trying to "confuse Bulba with wrestling", going for a lot of takedowns and trying to avoid a lot of stand-up fighting (though what stand-up fighting there was was really good). Also dug the other story of this being the battle of the clawholds, with Kerry going into this match with his claw hand injured. Akbar was really good at ringside. Kept swatting at Kerry as he paced around the ring, trying to figure out what to do with Bulba, which made it feel like he was under even greater pressure. Match runs a bit short at eight minutes and has a schmozz finish, still felt like a solid nomination, so I'll throw it on the block and see what happens.

Kerry and Kevin Von Erich & Steve Simpson vs. Iceman King Parsons, Buddy Roberts, and The Angel of Death (World Six-Man Tag Team Titles Match)

Good but not great. Angel of Death is no Taurus Bulba.

Kerry Von Erich & Chris Adams vs. Taurus Bulba & Sheikh Braddock

This was also pretty good, but Braddock is no Taurus Bulba, either.

I've seen everything else but this.

"Modern Day Warrior" Kerry Von Erich vs. Tarras Bulba (9/8/89)

The fans were really into this match and Kerry looked like he was motivated here. Bulba was solid here using headbutts and blocking off Kerry's claw attempts which his claw hand was also injured going in. Kerry would keep using his injured hand on punches to setup the claw which takes away from the pressure that he can use thus making it easier for Bulba to counter which he would with a claw of his own simultaneously. This was a really fun battle as Kerry would win the battle and dropped Bulba to his knees as the crowd goes nuts. The Punisher (Undertaker) would then show up to runin for the DQ which sucked and they worked over Kerry's hand until Matt Borne & Billy Travis would run out followed by PY Chu-Hi and Chris Adams for a wild brawl. I liked this one a lot even with the shitty finish and there is enough to move it forward.

"Gentleman" Chris Adams & "Modern Day Warrior" Kerry Von Erich vs. Sheik Braddock & Tarras Bulba (10/7/89)

This was okay but nothing special.
