Posted July 9, 200916 yr comment_5441710 Holy shit, this kind of came out of nowhere, lots of really great mat work from both guys, with Lane doing all kinds of slick counters, the standing stuff looked good too, with Lane breaking out an incredible looking STO. Just a total blast and an out of nowhere nomination. Ginnety #18
July 13, 200916 yr Author comment_5441868 So I have watched this twice more since I nominated it (once with Tomk and once with Childs) and every time I watch it, I love it more. Stan Lane was just out of his mind in this, chaining holds together like Blue Panther, nothing I have ever seen him in after this match suggested he could be this good. I could see this being the match that finishes preposterously high on my ballot.
July 13, 200916 yr comment_5441892 Yeah, the quality of this was startling. It was particularly fun to watch it with Phil, who kept raising the names of famous wrestlers and suggesting that they never looked as good on the mat as Stan Lane did on this fateful day in 1981. Lane really did wrestle smoothly and his big stuff at the end came off as crisp and violent. Takano kept up just fine. Definite nomination.
August 8, 200916 yr comment_5442630 I thought Phil was filling me with more hyperbole but he is spot on in this match. The matwork in this was so fucking fluid. The crowd didn't seem to care but I definitely want to see this on the set.
